It seems to me that the only thing objective in music is sales. I don't understand why people assume that everything is fact unless stated otherwise, it seems it ought to be the other way around. Again I never stated that as a fact!!! It's my opinion! I was actually agreeing with you that it should be taken as opinion and not fact.

Just a reminder. This one goes for adds on May 16th. Add date was pushed back. And according to HDD, the adds date is now "7/11". July 11 is indeed a Monday. hitsdailydouble.com/the_bside&id=300996These guys continue to visit radio stations and play showcases for radio folks, and I do think they're gonna start off with a splash. I think the recent staff shake-up at Sony is the reason for pushing the adds date back (twice now), and I also think Arista decided to launch Brad Paisley's new single first. Furthermore, I'm sure they want to continue aggressively promoting Cam's "Mayday". I'm thinking the next OTV selection will be announced in either late June or early July. I never thought LANco would be the front-runners and while it's possible that a July 11th impact date could still be in the time frame for when the next OTV selection is announced, I actually think LANco's chances of getting selected have decreased a bit now.

They pretty much admitted that they rushed the impact date too quickly when they originally scheduled it for February and they definitely needed to get their staff settled and allow LANco to visit more stations; it doesn't hurt to keep pushing back, especially since so little stations had them in for a visit and there was so many other choices for them to play (from Sony and other labels this Spring). I think programmers were/are cool with them delaying the impact date. Also, WJVC adds "everything", lol. They literally play every single below the top 40.

I´ve found Lanco on Spotify before knowing they had a record deal and I thought they would never be on the radio because it took some time to happen. The EP recording was bad but I liked "Troublemaker" more than "Long Live Tonight" which I think the song ends so weird lol.Lanco is an ok group for me but I prefer others like Parmalee, A Thousand Horses and Old Dominion.

Am I the only person who thinks this song sounds even more Pop than Old Dominion's first two RCA Nashville singles? Everything about this screams top 40'ish. The beat, the production, the vocals. The Highway's been playing it a lot the past week and it seems to stick out, even on their playlist. It's off to a great start. 39 adds on impact day (48 total adds) with over 50 stations reporting. iHeartMedia's "On The Verge" program is geared up for another selection in the next 2-4 weeks and I could always seem them going for this one.

Yeah, this song is definitely very CHR/Top 40 (it doesn't even really try to be/sound country at all) but I actually really like it. It's a fluffy lightweight pop song but I really like the vocals and production. As I often say, I think this would be a better fit for another radio format, but Sony Nashville signed these guys and so country radio is where they're gonna be. My only hope is that country radio is able to balance this stuff with stuff that is on the opposite (read: traditional-sounding) end of the country spectrum. So as long as country stations keep playing or are willing to give decent airplay to Jon Pardi, Eric Church, Justin Moore, Dierks Bentley, William Michael Morgan, Miranda Lambert, Jennifer Nettles, Drake White, Brothers Osborne, Chris Stapleton, Chris Young, Chris Janson, Craig Campbell, Runaway June, Josh Turner, Maddie & Tae, Josh Abbott Band, Easton Corbin, etc...then I can live with "Long Live Tonight" likely becoming a breakout hit at country radio (all signs seem to point to this one being a pretty big hit, and I too wouldn't be surprised if it's selected for OTV).

I just gave this one a chance, and I really dig it!!! I absolutely love how the bass is the prominent instrument in the melody of the intro and transitions. I would be fine if it got OTV :) Although those chances are probably diminishing every day that passes without it being announced...

I don't know if they'll need OTV They might not need OTV, but given the current amount of new singles surfacing country radio. I can very well see "Long Live Tonight" getting lost in the shuffle this summer into fall. So them getting On The Verge would be a nice guarntee to make this song a success. As for this song, I don't mind it. The lead vocalist has a nice voice and the production is agreeable enough, if there is one issue I have is how they deliver the hook, seems a tad off to my ears.

"Long Live Tonight" makes a big jump into the MB Top 50 at #48. LANco gained 186 spins, so this is definitely at a good pace.
I've yet to hear this on the radio but that'll probably change soon.

As should be clear to everyone now, pop radio is always looking for the next best (generic garbage) and they've found it here. Step aside Brett Eldredge and Thomas Rhett (who are both seeing lackluster radio response with their latest songs). The new thing is here.

The part of the chorus when they say "long live tonight" is literally identical to how Lady Antebellum sang "we owned the night" in their song.

Radio seems to be embracing it for now. The sales will pick up as radio increases their airplay but I was surprised how bad initial sales have been.

Eh.
Caught some of this on the radio last night and this song didn't really grip me or leave me all that impressed. Might be nothing more than generic pop sounding radio filler, but I do expect this song to succeed on country radio no matter how many charting weeks it takes.

For every sensical thing radio does, it does 2 nonsensical things.
This one has now bypassed Chris Young's latest in half the time. Is there something I'm not getting?
This song is legitimately awful to my ears. There's no melodic flow, and the instrumentals are overwhelmingly bland. The guy literally sounds like an Imagine Dragons ripoff or something.
And obviously I'm not alone--this one has blasted into the top 40 in a month and still is nowhere to be found in the iTunes top 1500.

I've been listening to this since it was first announced as a single (several months before it went for adds), and it just doesn't do much for me. It's definitely not a station changer, but it's also not something I ever really choose to listen to unless I put my phone on shuffle on my playlist of current music. Like I said, I've been listening to this since February/March, yet I couldn't really tell you how the song went other than the "loooooong, liiiiiiive, tonight" part in the chorus. It's just not a very memorable song to me. I think the extended radio tour they went on (and the several times the adds date was pushed back) may be why this is doing fairly well, but I just can't see this turning into a big hit. But I say that about several songs that have turned into top 10/20 singles, so we'll see.

I definitely agree with you regarding the Chris Young statement. Chris is 386 all genre for the record. I don't think the LANco song is legitimately awful. I've heard worse. It's just not really country. There's some nice country harmonization while they're singing in the chorus but you're right, everything just sounds like an alternative/Imagine Dragons ripoff. For the record, I wouldn't go out of my way to listen to the song, so that's how I feel about it. I have some thoughts about "Sober Saturday Night" but I'm going to post them there and not derail this thread.
Sadly I think this will be a hit. Compared to other new artists, this is off to a great start. The fact that is blasted into the top 40 and didn't take three months to do so is a good sign. If this song could trade places with a really good song struggling song in the 40s/50s that would be great: "If I Told You", "Are You With Me", "Outskirts Of Heaven", "Lipstick", "Hometown Girl", etc.

I know you're being rhetorical, but the obvious answer is that one is a country music song and one is a country radio song. What's really frustrating is that radio made its choice without any research or sales info, further showing how oblivious they are to the problems at hand.

Similar but Brandon Lancaster doesn't have the growl that Bear has. Bear has a more unique, interesting voice. But in "country," Lancaster has a unique voice too. The band's overall sound recalls early Kings of Leon to me.

I agree with you in what you said about Bear besides his voice is more powerful in my opinion but Brandon has a nice voice that fit very well singing "country" but also for an Alternative/Indie band which is how they sound for me.
