I am actually someone who likes both Tucker Beathard and Greg Bates. Having said that I could never find it in me to actively hope another artist fails (note chart watching I only wish songs to fall when they've spent so long on the chart and/or not moving that much for quite a few weeks) but I don't think I can ever root for another artist to completely fade away especially if they have yet to release an album.
I don't know but I do kinda like this song, his voice isn't the greatest but I do find the writing on this too not only be very clever (the should've put a Rock On part is really good writing) but also great as it uses a theme that isn't often explored in mainstream country music (the narrator reflecting on a past love that he wishes the best but basically wonders what might have been if he had only put a rock on)

Is that not something we should hope for? I mean, the difference here is that Greg Bates seems to actually be missed... No offense to Tucker, but he seems like a pretty good example so far of an artist that the vast majority of the public has no interest in but radio tries to force-feed him to us anyway. We'll have to wait and see if interest picks up with a second single, but so far I fail to see what would be so bad about this guy disappearing from the music industry... This song has, at least to my ears, more emotion and nuance to it. He's supportive of her finding someone new and doing her own thing, but still a little bitter and conflicted about it. Now this I do agree with. I've always enjoyed the subject and angle of this song but nothing else grabs me. The lyrics aren't too special and the melody isn't either. I see how some like the duel-meaning title ("Rock On") but it doesn't do much for me, personally. In terms of the lightweight nature of Greg Bates' debut single, I agree many male artists could do the same lightweight type of song but the reason that song was special was its throwback feel and production that incorporated subtle, clever lyrics with a voice much smoother than Tucker's. Greg's subsequent songs also proved he was more than some no-name neo-traditional singer ("Fill In The Blank", "Brothers", "Lost In Caroline", "Sand"). I haven't heard anything else yet from Tucker but I do see potential in him as a writer (I see he wrote nearly every track on his upcoming EP with his dad, Casey), so hopefully I enjoy his songs in the future. He'll never be a big favorite of mine because of his vocals, though.

It was a good song but I think it failed to establish Greg as a new artist. I will grant that I haven't heard any of his other songs, so it's possible that he had better things in him. Most of the songs I heard in the Rate the Music survey for Tucker, and they seemed in the same nature: good lyrics, but I could see where his voice would be a sticking point for some.

This trainwreck is atguably the worst song on CT40 alongside Thomas Rhett; just gruesome which pretty much explains the format's faltering ratings as Lon Helton pointed out recently.
Falling behind top 40 radio in total listeners for the first time since Taylor Swift was a toddler (1992) is hortible news for the format without a doubt; here's hoping this troubling trend can be reversed soon.

I will grant that I haven't heard any of his other songs, so it's possible that he had better things in him. It wouldn't have changed much because it would've still been good, lol. If "Rock On" had been recorded by someone else with a halfway decent voice however, that would've probably changed things a bit. I still think is a pretty awful song, mostly because the vocal performance is so abysmal, but I'm with sabre14 that I don't think it's a particularly strong song even with that removed (lyrically I don't think the song is honestly that clever and melodically it's a snoozefest, too). This song is just devoid of anything interesting to me, and I feel like even if Josh Turner or someone I genuinely love had done it, I'd be left thinking "meh, he's had better." I'm surprised this one hung in there and has moved up the way it has after looking a bit weak on the cusp of the Top 20 for awhile, but I still have a hard time imagining this guy catching on beyond this single. I see him being a Frankie Ballard type to where radio might lift his presence up higher (remains to be seen how his future singles do, however) than it oughta be, but the sales will come back and tell a different story of minimal interest.

melodically it's a snoozefest, too [insert obvious line about Casey Beathard's complete inability to write a melody]

There's something about this song that just really clicks with me. I love the raspy rock type vocals, so that's a plus for me. I think the hook is pretty clever too, at least compared to other songs today. Glad to see this could potentially contend for a #1 spot.

I love Tucker Beathard's "Rock On." I love his voice--so unique--,and I love the story line--upbeat and good-natured despite the breakup. Good lyrics. Entertaining.
"Rock On" may have peaked at Billboard/Airplay #8, though I had hoped it would go all the way to #1. Dang. It is Mediabase/Aircheck #6, and hopefully still climbing.
What a great way to start with his first single!
With Kelsea Ballerini's "Dibs" going to #1, and with other songs which are not #1 hits going to #1, I think Tucker's unique "Rock On" deserves #1!
I look forward to Tucker's next single . . . after "Rock On" peaks! #1

It hasn't peaked yet -- it's still climbing and posting great audience gains. Whether it hits #1 remains to be seen, but it looks like this one is going to very likely peak in the Top 3, at least.

Ad in Country Aircheck says Dot Records is maxing for #1.... YES!! I would love to see them push too early and miss the top completely! But if this somehow gets ahead of Billy and blocks him from #1... I know he already made it on Mediabase, but this week he really deserves to have both... Edit: Lol silly me, I don't know what I was thinking! Billy did not get Mediabase this week, but is looking likely to get Billboard. Either way, this coming week should in a perfect world be all his...

I think this was pre-determined push from a while ago or they're maxing this as soon as possible because of stations letting them know they want to be rid of this sooner than Billy and Kenny's singles. Tucker is 1000 spins behind Billy. So, yeah, likely not gonna happen this week.

Hold on a second, let's not rule Tucker Beathard on hitting the Top spot this next week. I saw in the Country Aircheck PDF that it says this is going for max spins again. So Tucker Beathard and Billy Currington might have a complete showdown for the top spot next week if Billy Currington holds on for another week.

Yes, they're asking for max spins again, so I'm expecting Dot/BMLG to work it so Tucker gets #1 on at least Mediabase.

Ugh, NO, this song needs to just leave already! If it can hang on to fight for #1 yet again after a failed push week, it just adds more insult to the fact that other WAY more popular OTV songs like "Burning House" got stuck at #2, or "My Church" got stuck just inside the top 10... Ridiculous and unacceptable.

I would like to see "Rock On" go to Billboard/Country Airplay #1.
The lyrics are unique and entertaining. The song deals with the pain of love lost in a good-natured way, and we can feel the loss, the pain, and the letting go. Tucker Beathard sings the song perfectly, and I love his distinctive voice.

He had n.1 on Mb and 2 weeks on Bb.

Ridiculous and unacceptable. Like you, I hope this song doesn't hit #1. I think they expected to get there on Mediabase on Sunday, but Billy had a decent last-day update for Mediabase and was able to hold Tucker off, and a part of me wonders if UMG/Mercury lured BMLG/Dot into thinking that they'd just 'allow' Tucker the Mediabase #1 (like we often see labels do) and then would push Billy this week. Because it didn't seem possible that Tucker could catch Billy, but then there was that ridiculous swing of nearly 300 spins between the two of them in the Saturday morning update (where Billy lost 93 spins and Tucker gained 198) that suddenly made it seem possible that Tucker could sneak into the #1 spot on Sunday. But I wonder if UMG/Mercury was just feigning and allowed Billy to lose a certain amount of spins? Which in turn might've caused the folks at BMLG/Dot to think "hey, we can do this after all". All parties knew that Billy was Lon Helton's co-host but that didn't stop BMLG/Dot from stepping on the gas with "Rock On". Tucker gained another 113 spins and nearly 500k in audience in the Sunday morning update, but Billy gained 23 spins and was able to hold him off. So it's possible that BMLG/Dot might feel a little spurned and therefore decided to try for max spins again this week. Today's update wasn't very good for Tucker, though, as he lost 49 spins and 154k in audience. Billy lost 80 spins and 486k so he probably won't get a 3rd week at #1 on Billboard, in which case Tucker could take over...but he might have a really tough time holding off Luke Bryan. Luke gained 140 spins and 873k in audience today, and so I'm thinking that maybe Luke will try to make his way to #1 this week before Kenny inevitably takes over. I fully expect Kenny to max for #1 beginning next week, and he could stay there for 2 or even 3 weeks which wouldn't be good for the songs behind him. So I'm wondering if Capitol decided to try to get Luke a week at #1 before Kenny hits the top? Cole Swindell and LoCash are putting up strong numbers too, but either or both of them could get blocked by Kenny, as they're both a little too close behind Kenny, in my opinion. And I just can't see "Setting The World On Fire" being only a 1-week #1. We're only two days into the new Mediabase week and one day into the new Billboard week, so a lot can still happen. And this is one of those weeks where it definitely looks like several scenarios could play out, which is quite unusual in these days of "revolving door"/"let's all take turns at #1" charts.

Tucker Beathard is strong, "Rock On" is strong, and I say FIGHT LIKE HELL for Billboard/Country Airplay #1! . . . Rock On!

By the way, I've been meaning to welcome you to Pulse Music Board. I DO feel safer when you're around, too!

My enthusiasm for Tucker Beathard comes from more than listening to just this one song "Rock On."
Tucker's 6-track FIGHT LIKE HELL EP was released for online purchase this past Friday, Oct 7, plus DOT Records has posted an excellent SoundCloud audio of the songs, which I have listened to repeatedly to make my own copy of the lyrics. The songs on this FIGHT LIKE HELL EP are powerful.
In addition, I have pulled the lyrics and listened many times to five other Tucker Beathard songs recorded prior to FIGHT LIKE HELL, and they are also excellent.
Tucker's first headlining 9-city Rock On College Tour opens tonight Oct 13 ... extending to Nov 12. I will attend one of his shows this weekend, where I hope to purchase the FIGHT LIKE HELL EP.
I believe that Tucker's upcoming debut album will be amazing.
