"Don't Let Me Down" has been overplayed to hell and back too, but I wouldn't say it ever felt like a #1 song. I don't know...you probably have a different experience from me where you live.

-Still to this day, I am completely shocked that NONE (even "Walk Away") of Kelly Clarkson's 'Breakaway' singles reached #1 on the Hot 100! All of her singles DOMINATED radio when I was a little kid, the nostalgia!
-I was really shocked that Coldplay's "Clocks" peaked at #29 on the Hot 100, especially since it won Record of the Year at the grammys. This song was HUGE when it came out, I even thought it was a #1 hit! What's even more amazing is that this song still gets a lot of recurrent airplay for only peaking at #29!

This tread is a good evidence that how charts can look irrelevant and inaccurate.

I also swore that "Lights" was a #1 song.

Also, I thought that "Dreaming With A Broken Heart" by John Mayer peaked higher than #99. I remember that being all over the radio.

I don't get people who post songs that peaked at #2 and say "it felt like a #1"
That's really only a one position difference...which is barely a difference in a topic like this

Linkin Park's "Numb" only peaked at #11 on the Hot 100. I thought it would've peaked in the top 10.

As of late, "Send My Love (To Your New Lover)" by Adele felt a lot bigger than #8, primarily due to its overplay.

Here are some examples from the early 00's Backstreet Boys - The Call (peaked at #52) Christina Aguilera - Dirrty (peaked at #48) I dunno... what are some other examples? Nevermind these all peaked way higher in their real dimension. I guess we were fooled and we're all actually conscious. Part 2 Baby Yeah!

I always thought that "Zombie" by Cranberries was their biggest hit on the Hot 100 but it didn't even chart.

A lot of the early 2000s power pop -- Stacey's Mom didn't crack the top 20, and Teenage Dirtbag didn't even CHART.

Like, every Britney Spears single ever. Yeah alot of Britneys early stuff. I guess TRL made songs feel really big, even if they weren't massive on the radio I was looking at ZZ Top's singles discography the other day and realized that the early days of MTV made their songs seems much bigger than they were on the pop charts. And it wasn't just them. The MTV effect is pretty crazy - well, until TRL ended and MTV totally jumped the shark.

Not To Mention Counting Stars
I know it's only one spot away, but it deserved number 1, it had such a long climb up, and I felt like that song was huge. Felt like a 7 week number one at the minimum.
