My Neck My Back only peaked at #42 - felt like a year-end #1 for sure. This song is still popular among hardcore rap/urban music fans. I used to hear “My Neck, My Back” a lot on 100.3 The Beat in LA during the summer of 2002. I also recall seeing the video numerous times on BET’s 106 & Park during that time when I was 8 years old.

It might have been mentioned already. Ghost Town DJs - "My Boo" (31) I've always assumed it was huge back in 1996. It was still getting played on the rhythmic and pop stations in the early 00s. I still play this song and I think that should’ve made it to the top 10. It was a hit on 92.3 The Beat and Power 106 in Los Angeles in 1996-97. This actually peaked at #27 thanks to it going viral in 2016, but still lower than what would be expected..

Waka Waka only peaked at 38. I thought that song reached #1 because of how ubiquitous it was in 2010.

I'm kinda cheating with this one, but "Chlorine" by twenty one pilots. Nearly 500 million views on YouTube and a little over 400 million streams on Spotify. Did not chart once on the Hot 100, although it was bubbling under it.

La Bouche - Sweet Dreams 13 on Hot 100
Haddaway - What Is Love 11 on Hot 100
For a time, I thought they both went into top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart.

Suprised that Don't Let Me Down didn't go to #1. That was everywhere in 2016. #3 just doesn't seem right

Lots of classic alt hits that were big at the time too
Weezer - Island in the Sun #111 MGMT - Kids #91 (Electric Feel dnc) Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out #66 System of a Down - Chop Suey and Toxicity #76 and #70 Mumford & Sons - Little Lion Man #45 White Stripes - Seven Nation Army #76 Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros - Home (dnc) Postal Service - Such Great Heights (dnc) Jack Johnson- Better Together (dnc)
I might be biased because I was in an area where this type of music was huge, but this type of music was in a golden age at the time and I don't think the Hot 100 peaks reflect that.

Not peak in terms of placement, but longevity:
Celine Dion "My heart Will Go On".
Before I knew of its run (2 weeks at #1), I was fully expecting it to have logged 10+ weeks at the top. That song was *ubiquitous*.

That song was *ubiquitous*. Its run of printed and released copies was limited to 658,000 in the US, reducing its Hot 100 power at a time when sales weighed more on the Hot 100 and a physical single release was required to chart (a rule that was repealed late in 1998 after years of the Hot 100 becoming increasingly unrepresentative of what many were actually hearing.) The fact that it was #1 for 9 weeks in Radio & Records, and was included on two albums which each sold 11 million copies, is a better indicator of its popularity and impact.

Big Pun Featuring Joe “Still Not a Player”. It peaked at #24 in 1998 but I still hear it on Power 106, KDAY and Real 92.3 (92.3 The Beat 2.0 lol). Chime in?
