It baffles me how much streaming is weighted It went down in weight with the last H100 metric change. Focus was the proof in the pudding. It's been a lot better since, imo.

Just went on iTunes and wow Prince is dominating everything. Hopefully Purple Rain re-enters this week or next week. Also, my local CHR station is playing Prince songs every hour so he is getting increased airplay

I doubt they will change the rules for below top 50. The one exception has been if a song is being "actively promoted" but that wouldn't apply here.
If you carry the logic through, then lots of older recurrent songs would be popping back up on the hot 100 constantly -- if they're used in a tv show or commercial or a moderately viral video.
Everything about the hot 100 is kind of arbitrary anyway -- the weighting of factors for example.
If anything I think there needs to be some new rules to prevent the Bieber and Taylor style flooding of the charts when a new album comes out. There should be a top 50 rule for non-promoted album cuts too.

It would definitely be the 5/14 chart

There's definitely been a couple in recent years but I can't remember what they were... But it annoys me every time it happens, that's how I know it's definitely happened recently lol. I THINK one of them was Marry You by Bruno Mars. I saw it in the recurrent chart even though it hadn't spent 20 weeks on the Hot 100 yet. Personally I think any song should be allowed to chart if it hasn't charted for 20 weeks yet, no matter how old. I agree with making songs recurrent as it'd be boring seeing year-old songs hogging up the bottom half of the chart and it's good that it lets new songs get in more easily, but I think if an old song gets a random boost one week and hasn't charted for 20 weeks they should let it chart as normal and put it recurrent after 20 weeks. Then after 20 weeks make them have to chart top 50 to re-enter. Plus in Europe they often re-release songs years after their first release. Doesn't really happen much anymore but it was a fairly common thing in the 80's, 90's and even the early 00's. I know it's happened in the US occasionally but it's very rare. So basically I think letting old songs chart in the bottom half of the Hot 100 if they never made 20 weeks in their original run (or never charted in the first place) would be cool, it could prompt some interesting re-releases. I know Empire Of The Sun did a re-release recently. I don't know - after songs are more than a few years old, I personally don't see why it matters if they charted years ago or not or for 20 weeks or not. They are all catalog songs that aren't being re-released, and they are charting only for a brief time because of someone dying or a major performance or viral something or whatnot. So while a part of me would love to see some old Prince songs chart for the first time in the lower region of the chart, I'm not really in support of it at the end of the day. Just let catalog songs chart if they make the top 50 (new or re-entry, regardless of previous weeks on) and leave it at that. Songs that are being actively promoted are different, like Empire of the Sun... or the re-release and promotion of Bohemian Rhapsody in the 90s, even. Clogging the lower end of the chart with temporary new (but old) songs for a week or two doesn't really seem all that justified given the foundation and purpose of the chart. If they see Erotic City (for example) do really well and then choose to re-release it and promote it to radio... fine. Until then, I'm good with it not charting outside the top 50. It will probably be a very rare occurrence and usually just one song so it won't matter much imo. And in a case like this week most of the songs would just stay for one week, so again it wouldn't matter much. I think it would be cool and would make the charts more interesting basically. But then again, it is called a "Hot" 100. In a case like this week with Prince while there could potentially be a higher number of songs, they're still not going to be in the chart a long time most likely. It's not like doing this would cause the bottom half of the Hot 100 to be filled with a dozen random songs from the 80's and 90's each week. Usually it would be when an old song which wasn't a big hit the first time around gets played on TV somewhere, or in a hit movie, or goes viral for a week.

If that's only from yesterday, imagine how much the songs are all going to sell this week with a full 7 days of sales? Amazing!

How many songs re-entered the charts after Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston passed away? Michael didn't have any because of the current rules . Whitney had 3 the first week, 4 the second week , and 1 the third week

^^^literally impossible for multiple reasons I don't remember off the top of my head which poster he's imitating, but Rose is copying another poster's antics by posting Top 10 predictions that are impossible.

My predictions: #1. Purple Rain #4. When Doves Cry Purple Rain and WDC only got 1 day of sales (72k and 60k respectively). Both songs would need either great streaming or great airplay to have a shot at the top 10 (or both to be that high). Those positions could be possible next week, but I think PR would need over 400k sales to be #1 and WDC would need like 300k to be #4

Wow, if Purple Rain sold around 125k on just the 21st, imagine how much it sold yesterday with a full day of tracking and an even bigger lead over Panda. Not quite Hello sales, but still huge. I'm thinking top 5 next week if not #1, as long as sales don't drop down to 0 or something in the next 2 days (which so far they don't seem to be doing). Maybe When Doves Cry can get into the top 10 as well?
