Well the opening guitar lick sounds like Brad. That has helped ease my nerves about this one a bit.

I just listened to "Skyscraper" for the very first time. I think her voice gets a little choppy while singing but wow, that's a powerful, emotional, vulnerable vocal performance. I'm curious to see how this new Brad single sounds to say the least. Demi recorded that right after overcoming an eating disorder. She's really an inspirational sort of person. Very positive. She was good as a judge on the X-Factor.

She was good as a judge on the X-Factor. I knew she had overcome obstacles in her life but I was still unsure I would feel about the song before listening. It was quite the performance though. "Without A Fight" will get hourly airplay on iHeartmedia stations tomorrow. I doubt Joe's new one will (even a mini deal) since they're already giving hourly treatment to Brad's. Joe has zero momentum anyway.

I actually thought this song would be a ballad, but it's a very great song and Brad doesn't stray away from Country on this song. Thank God. Also Demi Lovato is such a great duet partner and I'm glad he decided to pick her. Maybe her inclusion on a Country song will somewhat influence her to do a Country song or a slight possibility of a Country album. This song definitely will be helped by Demi's star power. That guitar riff is pretty awesome too. And that lyric about going to bed angry is my favorite lyric in the song.

I think this is really good. The combined vocals of Brad and Demi works very well and I really enjoy the production in the verses, plus the melody is pretty strong. The song stays true to Brad's signature guitar driven sound, too.

The guitar is pretty cool, but I will admit that my favorite part of this song is Demi's vocals! Her notes just keep getting higher and higher as the song goes on. That's something that pop women seem to be much more comfortable doing than country women, for whatever reason.
Overall I am left a little underwhelmed at the melody of this song, but it will undoubtedly stick with me as I hear the song more times. I can tell already this is going to be huge, and I am so happy for Brad :)

This is great! Easily the best song Brad Paisley has released in years and definitely one of my favorites from him. This has some edge and grit to it, which I think Brad's music often lacks. And I also love how undeniably country this sounds! Demi is a great addition to this song and her and Brad's vocals works surprisingly well together. Everything about this song is so good. I hope this smashes hard!

I really like this. The chorus melody reminds me a lot of Brooks and Dunn.

Yeah this ain't bad. Glad to have Brad continue to play his signature guitar, especially since another prominent guitarist isn't playing his as much these days... But I agree with everybody else, Demi sounds great on this, and not a fish out of water.

Incredibly (i hate the duets between country stars and pop/rock/hip hop ecc. stars) ... but in this song Demi Lovato comes out better than Brad. 6.5/10

This is awesome. The guitar is very prominent and I love it. Wish the steel was a little more prominent. No fiddle at all but that's okay. Still undeniably county though. I was pleased that I didn't hear any programming/drum machines which is very rare nowadays. Lyrically, I don't think any of us guessed the song's subject matter right haha. I like the lyrics. They are very relatable. Demi sounds awesome and the two sound great together. Hopefully this gets Brad back to number 1! Also this is a HUGE step above his last lead single. "Riverbank" was .

This is going to be one of my favorite songs of the year, I can already tell. Not disappointed at all.

It has taken a few listens, but the good news (for me, anyway) is that I do like this more on my third listen than I did on my first. I do really like the guitar riff and think that LBTrocks is bang-on in pointing out that musically, this song has an edge that Brad's songs often lack. I also agree that Demi Lovato doesn't sound out of place on this song, but since I had a passing familiarity with her voice, I thought that she would be able to adapt well enough. I will say though, I have the impression that upper register female belting has been a tough sell in callout tests at country radio for the past couple of years, so I'll be interested to see whether that shows up here. Perhaps the fact that the belting in this song isn't at the forefront of the mix will help. Where this song isn't quite working for me as well (at least not yet) is in lyrical flow -- the lyrics themselves are fine, but I don't feel like they quite land in the melody in the conversational way I'm accustomed to hearing from Brad. I'm also not sure that either singer really conveys the angst of the lyric all that well. But while the song isn't grabbing me yet, I am relieved that it doesn't feel like a grab at relevance at the expense of who Brad is as an artist. And I'm happy that the song is going over well here, because I can't help but root for Brad.

I wanted to love this and I'm rooting for Brad to get back in heavy rotation on radio but...
I really dislike it. To me, it sounds like Brad is singing with his daughter. It's not Heaven's Just A Sin Away creepy but I also don't think there's any vocal chemistry to make the concept of the song sizzle. The production and guitar are just meh. Inoffensive and perfect for airplay.
Sorry Brad!

Doing well in stations and spins: BRAD PAISLEY Without A Fight f/Demi Lovato 56 990 We know. :) "Without A Fight" received hourly airplay on iHeartMedia stations yesterday. I've only listened to this once so far, and I didn't like it as much as I was hoping to. Demi strikes me as an odd duet partner, especially on a song about "getting it on", mostly because she's so much younger than Brad. Also, I agree with 43dudleyvillas -- on my first impression of this one, I felt like the lyrics didn't quite fit with the melody. It's not that they don't fit at all...it just doesn't sound like they 100% fit, if that makes sense. I noticed it a bit more in the chorus than I did in the verses. Anyway, I don't dislike this one, but I don't like it as much as several of Brad's recent singles. Maybe this one will grow on me some more.

I've already said it, but the melody and structure reminds me a bit of Brooks and Dunn, which I love.
You guys mention the melody and the lyrics matching or not matching. The chorus, to me, kind of reminds me a bit of an older song, almost maybe a Meatloaf song. The lyrics tell one story where if you were just reading them you would have a certain idea. It's almost an emotional story that you'd expect to have a slower pace and more calming melody. But the fact that it's an uptempo song kind of changes the whole feel for me. The characters say it themselves: "but we love the way it ends".
It's almost like they are upset but not upset at the same time. And I get that vibe from the melody and structure. I like it a lot and personally I think it's very fitting.
Brad is obviously a lot older than Demi, but let's face it: she's 23 not 13. This could be a topic 23 year olds are faced with so why does it matter who her "partner/lover" is?
