I loved this era of pop music, when I listen to songs like "Say It Right", "Glamorous", "Sexy Back", "What Goes Around", etc. the music still sounds fresh and a lot less outdated than the music of the Gaga/Katy/Rihanna/Kesha era when fun but cheap electropop dominated from around 2009-2011..... But even then, I'll take that era over this current one.... We're currently in the Mid 2010's and in comparison to music 10 years ago.... the decline is definitely there. Even the "trash" music of 2006 (think Akon, T-Pain, etc.) was still catchy and light-hearted and somewhat listenable. The pop music of today is a mix of insufferable mush like "7 Years" and "See You Again" and noisy, uninspired EDM led by vocal synths (thanks a lot DJ Snake), and monotonous trap music that lacks any sort of redeeming melody or lyrics.... The first part of this decade in music was still miles better than where it is currently... The mid 2000's >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> The Mid 2010's easily disagree with you 100%. The early 2010's were awful, just a bunch of annoying, nothing EDM-songs which felt like they were easy to make and no actual effort was given to make these songs. It felt like any artist could have an easy hit with generic, uninspired and annoying club trash with a simple beat and repetitive drop. And the music had the worst elements of dance music I ever heard. Basically, put annoying simple dance beat with awful buildups and drops, sound like a robot, sing about getting drunk and partying while repeating the chorus a billion times, and you instantly have a hit. At least DJ Snake's music is more interesting that the same nonsense that was in at the time, and he switches it up once in a while. Also, the diversity we have now compared to then is great, different styles and different sounds. The only good stuff about the early 2010's was Adele and Bruno Mars exploding to the scene and the beginning of the indie-folk movement which was popular for a while. Other than that, the early 2010's were full of forgettable crap that I'm glad aren't popular anymore. As for 2006-2007, it was slightly better than the early 2010's, but not by that much. A lot of the sounds were still very generic and formulaic, and I don't really miss half of the artists walker9 listed. Still, there were several songs from that time period that I did enjoy, but I still prefer today than anything from either of those era's. Anything before the mid-00's, though, is better than today, that being said. So in the end mid-2010's>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>early 2010's, it's not even a contest. Disagree with you 1000%. The early 2000s were carefree pop songs that may have relied more on computers than music ever has before but this idea that pop music is easy to make is so wrong when you consider how challenging it can be to actually create a catchy melody. If it was so easy, everyone and their dog could do it and clearly they can't. Plus, the EDM days led into the expanded EDM music we've had of late with more emotionally laden electropop songs that combine melodies with heartfelt emotional lyrics, proving that EDM is more than just a beat with a catchy synth hook. As for 2006-2007, every era has its good and bad point. There was a lot of great stuff from that era just like there was some trash in 2010 and music this year has its fair share of both.

But this is exactly what today's pop music sounds like too, it's just that the loud and abrasive synths are replaced with those cringeworthy DJ-Snake inspired vocal doodoo's. There's good and bad music in every decade no doubt, but the strictly pop music right now is just... The newcomers just ...... make me question as to why... Meghan Trainor? Ariana Grande? Selena Gomez? Demi Lovato? These are the leading females of today's pop industry right now And as for the boys: Justin Bieber, Nick Jonas, Shawn Mendes, etc. are really not all that better. And then we have those awful pseudo-rappers like Fetty Wap, Desiigner, etc. To each their own, but I'd take Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Rihanna, and might I dare even say Kesha over any of the current popstars, which is why I think the beginning of this decade was better. Not massively better, but still, at least a bit more eventful and entertaining to say the least. But I wholeheartedly agree with you on one thing, and that is that the Early 2000's were significantly more enjoyable music-wise than the mid 2000's and onward. THAT was when I felt like the industry had diversity. There was everything from alternative rock all over pop radio to bubblegum artists, more traditional R&B/Soul, better hip-hop/rap, country music that actually sounded country, etc. It was the adaptation of complete digital technology that gave us everything from 2006-onwards. We started getting a taste of it from 1999-2003 with the puppet artists like Britney Spears, NSYNC, and BSB, but eventually Autotune and Midi keyboards pretty much killed a lot of good stuff lol.

Well I can't argue with you there. At least the annoying EDM from back then evolved and became the really diverse and cool EDM we have now. And you made good points about everything else.

To me, the early 2010s were better than the mid-2010s (though I wouldn't say the mid-2010s is bad or anything). That said, I think 2010 is the worst year for pop music of this decade.

Monroe4 Minutes to be a LegendAdonis the DemiGod!P!nkch TheOβ’ Edit: @djgeneral (no idea what his actual username was) ...this thread is trash. I did enjoy the rhythmic pop period of 06-07, actually more than the end of the decade of 08-09 when it was morphing into the electropop period, but still sounded on the thinner side production wise for the most part. Somewhere I have an instrumental version of Shock Value that is exponentially better than the full version. ...but this thread is still trash. Ahahaha, I miss all those guys. Wonder what happened to DJ General. He was a trail blazer and one of Pulse's first real wackadoos.

And how old were you from 2006-2008? lol. That might have to do with what percentage of the music you liked at the time was.
For me, I do enjoy this era, but it was always the era I missed out on. I was obsessed with Country music from 2005-2008, lol. It was all I listened to and I pretended to hate everything else. I love those artists you mentioned, and to me, there's always been an aura of mystique surrounding the songs that I only half knew about and didn't get to enjoy because I had my head up my bum in elementary and middle school.
2008 (mid way through) was the year that I first started to officially step out and listen to mainstream music. I WORSHIPED Lady Gaga (and I still think she's amazing). I Kissed A Girl is still one of the best Pop songs of all time. Taylor Swift, ironically I guess, I don't really love. But I definitely enjoy 2008 and 2009, when I first came to, some of the biggest songs were Best I Ever Had, Whatever You Like, Heartless, Kiss Me Thru The Phone, Blame It, Poker Face, Just Dance, Hot N Cold, Day N Nite, Right Round. And then the Black Eyed Peas came and I was very loving and enthusiastic about Boom Boom Pow, Rock That Body, Imma Be, Meet Me Half Way, etc. I wasn't jaded enough by elitism to not enjoy the Black Eyed Peas.
I think when I went into highschool in 2010 I stopped loving every single song that got popular.
And I think 2011-2014 (but mostly 2011-2012) are some of the worst and most bland years in music that I experienced.

2002, 2006, and 2009 are my top 3 years of music that I remember living through. So... I guess I am the odd ball here since I love both eras discussed in this thread.
Isn't the year you're 12 supposed to be your favorite year for music? That would August 2006-July 2007 for me, and 2006 is in my top 3, so I guess there's some accuracy there.
