Send My Love about to peak, not likely going #1 anymore but hey still a great run after When We Were Young faded quickly
Closer on the rise

The Kworb numbers only add up whenever the song is in the top 50 of a format or top 100 of a format's chart with recurrents. It likely just re-entered a chart on a format where it was just dangling below the cutoff.

It still looks like Adele will eventually eke out a week or two at #1 on airplay just due to Sia falling faster and Major Lazer and Chainsmokers not climbing quite fast enough.

I wonder, could Closer be heading for that 16 week record at #1? Right now it has such a huge lead over everything else, and is only getting stronger. If that video comes out in a reasonable amount of time and goes viral, we could see some 70k+ weeks here. People are saying Lady Gaga could debut at #1, but I have doubts. I know it's too early to tell for sure, but after One Dance managed to stay up there for so long without as many points, I'm thinking Closer's probably got the rest of this year locked up.

Lol I thought we agreed we only bring up the elusive 16-week record for songs that have been #1 for 10 weeks? Back when One Dance was dominating if the video had been just around the corner, it would've been appropriate to consider it (though I think Closer would've still gotten #1 right afterwards so I don't think OD would get more than 14 weeks at #1 anyway, but it would've probably blocked Cheap Thrills)

You know what I think closer could get that 16 weeks. It pretty much is similar to one dance's performance but a bit better at #1 as being #1 on Spotify #1 on iTunes and has growing radio. On top of that it also has YouTube which one dance didn't have so i think this could have a good run. Especially if the video for closer comes out

Let's say Katy, Gaga AND Bruno all release singles this fall/winter. It'd have to outperform all 3 and Bruno has proved to be threat on streaming. I say we start discussing it's chances when all 3 of their singles have dropped.

Unless an external force propels Heathens or CW upward (in the latter's case, the music video) or we see a huge debut, Closer could stay at #1 until mid-October easily. That being said though, it's still far too early to start thinking about it being #1 for 16 weeks (which would mean until almost the end of the calendar year), unless it's just for fun and games. It's not really realistic yet at this point. A lot of us thought Panda would be #1 for 10+ weeks and as we saw it only got two. If in November it's still holding strong and showing no signs of being dethroned, then we'll talk. There's plenty of opportunity for Gaga or Bruno or even CW if its video comes out before that of Closer.

I think the importance of a music video release is being over exaggerated. Closer doesn't even need one, it's already a streaming monster and I don't think a new video will even make that much a difference

I think the importance of a music video release is being over exaggerated. Closer doesn't even need one, it's already a streaming monster and I don't think a new video will even make that much a difference It can boost both peak and longevity. It could never hurt. One Dance would've easily gotten 3-4 more weeks at the top of the video was released in time for that (unless it were a flop video like with Can't Feel My Face last year). why is everyone acting like gaga is a threat? Adele had a huge comeback last year, and IMO Gaga is just as capable of it as Adele because Gaga has just as big of a fanbase as Adele if not a bigger one. Gaga hasn't been around in the music industry that much longer than Adele so I don't think her career is necessarily over just yet.

It's only been three weeks lol. If Closer is still number 1 after 9-10 weeks with a healthy lead, then we can talk.
I do think though it could stay #1 longer than One Dance and Work.

Wait... Adele didn't have a "comeback" -- that implies she had done well, then done poorly, then done well again. Releasing a successful new album after the last album was also successful is not a "comeback," that's a hot streak.
If Gaga hit #1 however that would indeed be a comeback. Applause actually did pretty well but Artpop overall was a big drop in both sales and singles success (it's easy to forget Born This Way had 4 top ten singles, same as The Fame).

It's points are just half of what Closer is doing right now despite being higher on radio, plus based on it's current performance on Spotify, it seems to have already peaked there. I can't see a video doing anything for it either unless it's something that goes viral like Anaconda or Wrecking Ball.

I'll hold out some hope for now that it gets one week at the top. IMO it's his best song by far lol (though that's not really saying much)
