RIP.
I always admired her perfectly articulate, detailed posts when assessing various situations and issues related to music and the moderation of this board. I recall that some were afraid to post in the Country section because of her stricter methods of moderation, and some of us would joke about it, but that was what kept that section in order, on topic, and with actual substance. There will never be anyone quite like her.

Wow, the Country forum and Pulse community has suffered a tremendous loss today. Reading all the posts here is just confirmation that Duddely had far more impact and respect than she probably ever knew.
I interacted with her quite a few times on her Twitter (Windmills), and I always respected that she responded to everyone she could, and she spread her wealth of knowledge to the Country music community. Her passion for Country music (and especially all the championing she did for women), was incredible. She knew and respected that women have to fight harder, and she stood up for so many of them. She was truly an incredible ambassador for Country music, and she was never rude or condescending to anyone she interacted with.
She was an equally great contributor at Pulse, and probably my favorite member of the community. She brought great insight and knowledge here, and there was no one quite like her.
The loss for the Country community is massive, and her intelligence and kindness will be deeply missed.
May she rest in peace.

Wow. I've only ever seen her around twice since I don't go on the country forums, but from I've heard beforehand, she seemed like a great person. RIP

Wow. I don't know what else I can say that hasn't been said, but she was an incredible and invaluable member of the board (and after reading her obituary, extremely accomplished in real life, too) who will be dearly missed. RIP.

I'm not going to lie -- and this has only happened 2 or 3 times -- but I do not think I have ever felt more validated as a person than when 43dudleyvillas would like one of my lengthy posts... It was like the master giving a small nugget of validation to her minions, and I would freak out every time. I mean, all the rest of y'all are special too, but there was just something about her that exuded a commanding mixture of confidence and class. As someone stated above, she is probably the only poster who I would willingly and eagerly read humungous multi-paragraph posts from. And on the flipside, every time I created a humungous post (which is frequently, as I feel I have a bit of a tendency towards novellas myself...), I would think to myself, "Jeez, I sure hope this comes across as more like dudley and less like raving lunatic." My only interaction with her came from me reading and liking her lengthy posts, and hoping secretly that she might see mine and think they were worth reading. It really is amazing the effect somebody can have on other people without having any idea how powerful they are... I feel like I lost someone dear to me, despite never even talking specifically to her or telling her that I think she is a valuable person. This thread is an absolutely beautiful outpouring of love celebrating her life, and I know without a doubt that she would have enjoyed reading all this praise, even if she would have downplayed the importance of the impact she has had around here. We know that all of it is 100% warranted, and that is what matters. We lost a good one, and it will be tough for awhile. But as time goes on, I vow to do my part to continue furthering the discussions about sexism and ageism in the country music industry, as that is probably all that dudley would ask of us. She has inspired me, as she has inspired so many others, and I will forever be grateful. And to all the rest of you, take care of yourselves. You mean more to me than you probably even know...

I'm definitely pretty new to here compared to some other people, but since I love/appreciate music (especially country) and this forum, I feel like I should share some thoughts.
I never knew Pulse existed until I joined last year. I learned to appreciate music at a young age when I learned to play the guitar. Many years later when my love for country music really started to grow, I found this forum by Google-ing "country music forum". I immediately signed up.
Right away I could tell who the very knowledgeable posters were and Dudley was certainly one of them. Like many others have said, every time I saw on the right-hand side of my screen that the last post on a thread was from Dudley, I knew I was in for a treat. The way she worded her posts you could tell she was very intelligent. I would be extremely grateful if I were to possess intelligence like she has. I always would read her posts no matter how long they were. In some of her posts, she backed up what she said with a lot of numbers/math/statistics which I really appreciate since I want to have a job after grad school in Data Analysis (ideally data analysis combined with music). Since I'm relatively new here, I don't have the personal connection that many of you have with Dudley but after seeing the outpouring of support on here, Twitter, and from reading the obituary, I could tell what a truly incredible and intelligent human being she was. Speaking of Twitter I had no idea she was Windmills. But I am not surprised at all since Windmills is a very reliable source of information on Twitter. Any social media platform, forum, or website she was a part of will certainly not be the same. The reason why I love country music goes beyond the music itself because we're all one tight-knit community and family and it truly shows in times like this.
RIP Dudley. You will be missed. Prayers to her family and friends in this time of mourning and sadness. The country music community lost a great one.

Oh my god... so sad!
This just came to my attention now and I can't believe it. It was only recently that I started being more active at the forum (especially the country section), but Dudley's posts were always a great incentive to take part on discussions. This is all very sad... May she rest in peace! :'(

I first read about her passing via Saving Country Music and just couldn't believe it. 43dudleyvillas's insightful and in-depth posts will very much be missed here at Pulse, and it was because of her great analysis that made her my favorite Pulser. I always got excited to see a post from her about whatever it might be and how thorough each one was. She had a way of conveying my own thoughts better than I would have ever been able to write them out in a post. As a follower of Windmills Country on Twitter I'll admit that I had no idea they both were of the same person...I've never really been all that active on Twitter (I'm trying to be), but that was by far my go-to place for anything country music news/chart related. It goes without saying that although none of us really have ever met or know one another, I certainly enjoy reading everyone's thoughts and opinions (whether we agree or disagree). I've had the pleasure of getting to know some of you a bit more via Facebook and Twitter and hope someday our paths may cross and we will be able to meet in person and enjoy a concert or a drink somewhere. This is a community of people that truly do enjoy country music enough to take time out of their day to visit and posts their thoughts on; we've lost a great voice that will forever live on here at Pulse.

I conversed with her more as Windmills on twitter, back when I was still active on there. Over the years, she had made me appreciate and enjoy coming to the country forum and Carrie artist thread here on Pulse. It's the only safe place on the internet that I know of where I can find mature and insightful country music discussions that are never derailed by fanwars or trolling.

I keep expecting to log on here and see a post going "sorry for the confusion guys, I'm fine!" or something. This feels so wrong to look at.
Of course, I echo the same sentiments being expressed here and across the board. Personally, I don't think I've ever been more impressed with an online personality as I was Dudley. In all disagreements and discussion, she was moderate, understanding (or at the very least made a conscious effort to be), and never seemed to take herself too seriously; but still presented herself in such a way that was both modest and commanded respect. Never read the country forum actively, but if I ever ran into her posts here, there, or wherever it was rarely if ever not a privilege to read. She was inspiring, honestly. She'll be missed.

She and I had very little interaction, other than a recent kind response which showed how much she cared about the things she put her time and effort into. After reading more about her life and other work, that's definitely been proven true. She did great things, had great ideas and deserved the utmost respect. Sending positive thoughts her way and to everyone whom she had an impact on.

I am in shock, I don't know what to say. I'm terribly sad to hear this news and send my deepest condolences to her friends and family :(
Dudley and I never interacted to a great extent, particularly because I never ventured much into the Country forum, but I recall reading her well thought out and written essays on several parts of the board. She always struck me as someone insightful and bright.
Truly a great loss. May she rest in peace.

I'm schocked! I don't even know what to say but that my heart goes out to her friends and family. This is such terrible news and even though we've never had any personal interaction, it's still very sad that a prominent member of this community has passed away so unexpectedly.
May she rest in peace :(

Oh no that's so awful. She'll be missed. I was really touched reading through the posts of everyone who was familiar with her work in regards to country music. What a loss for this world. She certainly left her mark.

I woke up to a few text messages this morning and I thought they were a joke. I logged in this morning to only find out that they were, in fact, very serious.
I didn't know what to say this morning trying to put the pieces together. I just couldn't find the words. I figured I would think about it throughout the day and try to find the words with Dudley in the back of my mind.
Now that I spent the entire day thinking about it, I'm realizing that there is nothing I can say. There are no words that I can find to even make the tiniest bit of sense out of this situation. Dudley was a colleague of mine for the past several years. I don't know what not only the staff, not only the board, but what the online music community as a whole is going to do without you.
I'm still in disbelief. I'm honored that I got the chance to discuss music with you, to heavily debate topics with such a fantastic conversationalist, to read your eloquent thoughts, and to work alongside of you to make this board what it is today.
May you rest in peace, my friend. This is a devastating loss.

I wasn't fortunate enough to know her personally, of course, but one can not help but notice her posts and her strong presence that she had in so many of these places. The country music community has lost a great voice and from what I could tell, a very sweet person as well. This is so sad, she will be truly missed.

What a somber, sobering reminder that we're all real people with families, friends, and lives behind our usernames. A very sad day for Pulse, country music journalism, and all the worlds she touched.

I never had much contact with Dudley here, other than when I'd occasionally post in the Country forum. I'm so sorry to hear that she passed away. Thirty eight is way to young. RIP Dudley.

I haven't had much time for Pulse this year with selling my house and moving & haven't posted in months. I'm really saddened to know when I do return more actively it will be a board without Dudley. I always kind of felt she had my back when I would kind of come on a little strong with an opinion or an assertion (she would also let me know when I was being an asshole in PM ). And though I never formerly thanked her , I felt she kind of welcomed me to the fold and pulled me out of the shadows and gave me a voice. She would ask my opinion along with some of the other old timers on suggested changes that were being made on the country forum and that really made me feel special. She really seemed to value our input. I was just the cranky loud mouth until she challenged me to be a little more than that. I really , really wish I could thank her for that now.
RIP Dudley
