Okay, I know I asked this last year, but what station do you guys listen to AT40 on, and do they play optional extras on it? And if they do, when is it played? I need to hear Sound Of Your Heart again, too good of a song.

No extras? As anticipated, AT40 used the published Mediabase year-end chart for the third year in a row. I think regular extras (not talking about opt xtras) will be posted on Friday. It's just not complete yet.

"You Don't Own Me" was the top remake of the year and "I Know What You Did Last Summer" was the biggest mover of 2016. I imagine "Rise" will tie into the Olympics since Ryan hosted it. I don't see an American Idol song but that might come next week.

Remember when AT40 used the last year's number one song as the last optional extra? I guess they stopped that because of using the current year of music.

Is there a Fresh Buzz song this week? Not for the year-end shows. Only Extra hits from the past year.

Wait, wait, wait. How could Stressed Out be the #1 song of the year?! I don't recall that song sitting on top as long as Closer. Someone please explain that one to me.

This chart is based on the Mediabase top 40 year end chart, which combines all of the spins each song gets from all the radio stations throughout the chart year (December-November). Stressed Out managed to get the most spins in all 12 months, while Closer has only been out since July. Closer still finished pretty high for a song that recent.

I've been listening to this at iheart.com for a while this morning. They are playing the list, but no rankings, no Ryan, no talking. Just the songs, including the extras. Very strange!

I did all the number crunching -- simply a sum of spins (current and recurrent) for the Mediabase 2016 reporting period (Sun 11/22/15 through Sun 11/13/16). It was, actually, a pretty close race for number one, this year. "Love Yourself" had the lead for most of the year. "Stressed Out" managed to pull ahead the first week of November.

Not related to Ryan, but does anyone know anything about the Iheart Radio Top 100 countdown? Doesn't it normally run on X-mas day? Would think we'd of seen some mention of it by now but even 'google' has nothing.

So it is no longer dependent on how many weeks a song spends at #1? Ugg/ It never worked that way. Roughly, how it worked prior to 1994...stations on the R&R reporting panel submitted ranked playlists, every week. Inverse points were used to tabulate the weekly charts. The weekly points were summed for the, applicable, reporting period to tabulate the year-end charts. From 1994, onwards, actual spins were monitored. Year-end charts are, generally, the sum of spins for the December through November(ish) reporting period. I presume AT40 did it in a similar manner from 2004 through 2013, when they were compiling their own charts. In fact, we've had three years this millennium where the #1 song of the year never even hit #1 on the weekly charts: 2000: Vertical Horizon - Everything You Want 2001: Lifehouse - Hanging My A Moment 2006: Natasha Bedingfield - Unwritten* * Mediabase, only. "Hips Don't Lie" by Shakira featuring Wyclef Jean was #1 on AT40, that year.

On a side note, what the hell happened to the AT40 iHeart station? Yes, they're still playing the 40 songs and the, mandatory, extras in the proper order. And that's it. No intros. No outros. No Ryan. Just a playlist, one song after the other. Please tell me this isn't the new normal for the station? I want to hear the ACTUAL show. >

Usually they have the actual show up by Friday night. But with glitches. Like Ryan introducing one song and another song plays. I suspect they used to load the show segment by segment onto their servers. I think they are now loading the music, then adding Ryan's voicetracks. But sometimes they are added in the wrong places.

Also, the channel for the iHeart Radio Countdown has played the bottom half of the Top 40 songs with no Romeo. Just a voiceover saying "#40" and song #40 plays, followed by "#39" and song #39, etc...

Does Iheart Radio skip the op. extras? They usually do, but I remember hearing them all bunched up after number 1, once.
