I definitely feel like this is being overrated a bit due to the fact that it was "unexpected" for a One Direction member.

I'm going to make a bold prediction here. This is going to get nominated for the Grammy's ROTY and/or SOTY next year. It is that good.

I wasn't expecting this, but I do love it a lot. The first time I thought it could have used a bit more of a hook, but the second time I listened to it. Hunny, I was SNAGGED.
The production is great, the vocals are fantastic, and it feels timeless - like many have stated before.
Personally don't care how it charts, but I would love for him to do well. I'm glad we got a quality debut single from him that is distinctly Harry.
Now we wait for the video.

Considering I don't use One Direction, I was surprised that I liked this. I like that this is the lovechild of David Bowie, Oasis, and Journey. It's well-done. I could totally see this being the song that finally dethrones "Shape Of You" from the top of the Hot 100.

Excellent production(Bashker) + powerful vocals(like you get from The Voice or Idol shows) = questionable results, this song is indeed very bland.
Bashker - produced Drake "Find Your Love", Kanye "All Of The Lights", Eminem "Headlights", Ronson "Uptown Funk" etc

I like this based on my first listen. Not quite as much as "Pillowtalk" for now, but I can see myself eventually loving it. Much better than "Still Got Time". Nearly 6 minutes won't fly on radio, but it didn't drag for me at all.
Also, glad he dropped the homeless look.

If Starboy was the *great* lead single of 2016, this is it for 2017.

Although Louis' wasn't his single (he was only a feature), it is interesting to see how each one is received with new material.
- PILLOWTALK - Huge, obviously. But it also had longevity, especially on radio. - This Town - This had surprisingly good longevity in the US, and sold pretty well thanks to the discount. Even did better on radio than I expected. Was a decent hit in the UK. Here in Ireland (his home country), it managed to get to #6 and was on the radio a lot (from what I heard, there is no official radio chart so that's the best I have) - Just Hold On - This surprised me when it didn't do very well in the US at all. Had an okay start but that was it. - Sign Of The Times - Huge at the moment but it will be interesting to see its chart longevity but more so its radio life once the deals/payola stop. It definitely isn't a pop song and his name may only be able to get it so far.
That just leaves Liam. I remember seeing some news on his music recently and I think it mentioned a more urban kind of sound? May have the same fate as Just Hold On. I think once this and Liam's single (if it even comes soon, he recently became a father) are done, they should all take a six month break from the public and release a surprise group single again. That would be huge, in my opinion, judging off how well known their band name still is and the huge reception to Harry and Zayn's music. Although, with the difference in their genres now it wouldn't surprise me if they never returned together. I could actually see them all working on PILLOWTALK if the lyrics were tamed down a bit and the instrumental was edited to be a bit more acoustic while keeping its pop/R&B elements.
Also, this song is okay. Pretty boring but I was never a fan and I don't like this sound, but it does sound very impressive (his vocals especially).

This is OK for me to hear on the radio, but that is it. Something like Million Reasons by GaGa. Not a bad song but not my cup of tea, something I will play on my own
I liked Pillowtalk a lot, but I was never into 1D before Pillowtalk. Actually did not hear any of their songs before that.
I guess HArry's name is enough to carry this song.
By the way, that last Zayn song is just greatly bad!
The video may make me like the song more. And I do hear those Bowie, Aerosmith, Robbie and Prince 'influences'

Now I'm obsessed. This is how I actually imagined Perfect Illusion would be tbh. Soaring vocals, glam rock influences, etc.

Apparently there's a Spotify Glitch that's making it hard for people to find the song on there. It took me like 30 Minutes to find it yesterday.

This interview talks a lot about the songwriting. Saturday Breakfast with Dermot soundcloud.com/hs-archive/saturday-breakfast-with-dermotApparently this song is about death? In another interview Harry said his songs are all very personal but he likes people to take their own meaning from them. Some think it may be about the suicide of his photographer friend Matt Irwin - here is an article about Matt including his final note. Matt was a wonderful photographer and did both celebrity and nature photography. He was One Direction's photographer. He died May 5, 2016, about a week before Harry had to report to the Dunkirk set for costume fitting and training. Harry traveled back to the UK to attend Matt's funeral. In the Bible, Sign of the Times is from the book of Matthew and is related to the End Times. www.dazeddigital.com/artsandculture/article/33152/1/remembering-matt-irwin-in-the-right-waySome think the song is generally about death. Some religious people think it is definitely about the End Times and are preaching that. Some think it's about the troubles of today's world. Some think it's about a relationship.

Kworb is predicting 178k sales.

I've been skeptical of the lead. #1 digital songs have been selling a handful. It just doesn't mean as much anymore.

Kworb is predicting 178k sales. Mmmh. The huge lead was misleading. I feel like those huge Friday leads usually are misleading, so I was more surprised to see some immediately think it was gonna do 400k than I am about it doing less than half that. But hey, I get the excitement on Fridays with those huge leads... and the hopeful mathematics.

#19 on Spotify (784,705 streams) Not gonna lie, with the massive sales and great first day in airplay, this is shockingly underwhelming for its debut in streaming. And as far as those Kworb estimates go. Well, let's just say, in order for that to happen, this would need to drop faster than anything in recent memory or literally everything else is taking a nosedive. And let's just leave it at that.

This is bland. Catchy, but bland.
I'm not surprised if those who for whatever reason believe making your tracks sound like others from 20, 30, 40, whatever many years ago is something to be praised end up liking this, but no. His name, hype, and the label will see this through to being a hit and radio and sticking around (even if it debuts at #1 and never returns there), but if this is indeed the most single-friendly song on the project as some of the pre-release information said, I can't really see him getting a second big hit from it. Who knows, I could be wrong. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If you quit the "hype" about this, it's just another ok song. This will be massively overrated.
