Azoff the Younger’s clients include Meghan Trainor and Harry Styles—whose first solo album and single will be hitting in late April or early May, with Jeff Bhasker producing under his new Columbia deal. hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=304965

Yes please. I want new solo artists in music industry so bad, things became so stale in 2017! Even if I don't like the song, at least it will be something new!

I hope he flops.
But I know his fangirls will instantly propel this up the charts. I'm interested to see what kind of music he'll make. He (and Louis) very much drove 1D's sound near the end. I know he's into the more dad rock type stuff, but he's also a lowkey famewhore, so he wants the mainstream success. I wonder what that will leave him with.
But ultimately, I don't care for him or his voice. I'd be nice to see the "breakout star" and the fan favorite from a big group not succeed or be outdone by other bandmates.

Why do I have a feeling this is going to be a Nate Ruess reject?

Right now it's very difficult to know what's going to happen. He is the most charismatic of the five, so i expect this (at least at first) going more on the route of Pillowtalk than what Niall's and Louis singles did. But being an ex boyband member is not easy, and Zayn's prove it. He is the most successful of the three that released new material but after a very successful first single the second single totally bombed. The social media makes way more easy to stay relevant, it makes easier come backs and transitions form teen idols to adult singers but without the right material it won't happen. Justin Timberlake did it but the truth is N'Sync experimented with more adult sounds in their last album so the transition was not that rare. OD never had a proper sound (and they were and odd boyband, probably the first boyband in history with no dance moves) so his sound could go in any direction (which doesn't mean the fans are going to like that direction). There are rumours about a song about Taylor Swift. Frankly, never a totally fake relationship inspired so many songs

Frankly, never a totally fake relationship inspired so many songs Well, after his second single underperformed Zayn did rebound with a smash, but one can definitely question whether "I Don't Wanna Live Forever" would have been much of a hit without Taylor. I think 1D actually did have sort of a signature sound for their first couple of years; problem was, at least in terms of singles, it seemed to mostly consist of about half a dozen attempts at replicating "What Makes You Beautiful". From "Story of My Life" on they varied things up a bit and scored some more hits. On their own the guys have explored a more diverse set of musical styles, with mixed success.

I might be wrong, but I feel like this time there is much less hype than before "Pillowtalk" arrived. I think it's safe to say that wherever this song debuts, it won't be #1.

Sorry, but i don't want to live forever apart of proving that Zayn's falsetto is grating as hell doesn't mean anything in terms of his career. The song from a successful film franchise (as absurd as it is) and he is singing with Taylor Swift, i'm pretty sure even myself will be able to get a hit if i was singing a duet with Taylor Swift right now. The song put him in the map again but now he has to prove it he is able to do it by himself. The problem is not that he wasn't able to replicate Pillowtalk success the problem was he was unable to even hit top 100. He had the momentum but it went wrong really fast. Anyway, right now if you are popular enough generally you have a lot more chances than one. It's curious but i think Niall's single did its work better. It wasn't a big hit but it stayed for a good while in the charts, it showed a different side and sound, it was not an smash hit but did its work. I'm not a fan of the group but i get the impression that Zayn and Harry got more media attention, so i expect an initial reaction similar to Zayn's first single. Of course that will vanish pretty soon if the song don't connect with his fans. On the past was pretty difficult for boy banders to have solo success, now is less complicated but they were so successful as band that will give them shadow for a good while

I think a small part of Pillowtalk's success stemmed from it being the first single from any of them. I don't think the initial reaction to this song will be as huge but I bet it's still pretty big.

This should do fine but 1D-mania has peaked and I don't expect any of their debuts to match Pillowtalk's first week. They will need to work harder than before to achieve success as they move away from the band. That said if the song is amazing it could surprise.

Apparently this is a long one - supposed to check in at 5 minutes 50 seconds before a radio edit, and no edit expected until the following week.

^ If this is true, it's very risky. This plus being political on your debut single.

Can this be a tie-in to Dunkirk or something?
