In 2007, Brandi Carlile released her second album The Story. To commemorate 10 years since its release, she has put together a covers album where other artists take on the whole album and it features some pretty big names! Adele, Pearl Jam, Dolly Parton, plus Chris Stapleton and Miranda Lambert are in there as well. Brandi is putting this album out to benefit War Child. I'm very excited! The Story is one of my all-time favourite albums and Brandi is one of my favs so it's exciting to see so many big names cover songs on it. Adele's cover originally appeared as a bonus track on 21. 1. Shovels & Rope β "Late Morning Lullaby" 2. Dolly Parton β "The Story" 3. Kris Kristofferson β "Turpentine" 4. Old Crow Medicine Show β "My Song" 5. Jim James β "Wasted" 6. The Avett Brothers β "Have You Ever" 7. Anderson East β "Josephine" 8. Secret Sisters β "Losing Heart" 9. Indigo Girls β "Cannonball" 10. TORRES β "Until I Die" 11. Margo Price β "Downpour" 12. Ruby Amanfu β "Shadow On The Wall" 13. Pearl Jam β "Again Today" 14. Adele β "Hiding My Heart" www.rollingstone.com/music/premieres/brandi-carlile-enlists-pearl-jam-adele-for-cover-stories-w467911

Oh wow that's an amazing list of artists! I can't wait to hear The Secret Sisters' "Losing Heart" or Shovel & Ropes' "Late Morning Lullaby"! The whole album should be great though as the original is a masterpiece! Side note: What did you think of LeAnn Rimes' cover of "The Story"? Devil Marlena Nylund

It was okay. I do like Dolly's version more though.

I am a big fan of "The Story". I first heard it when it appeared in a commercial during the 2008 Summer Olympics. I thought LeAnn Rimes' cover was decent enough. I love Dolly's version more too. Her voice is so much more powerful on this. I will check out this special album when it's released.

It was okay. I do like Dolly's version more though. Ok then I can't wait to hear Dolly's version! I liked LeAnn's cover. I thought it was a different take on the song from Brandi's original. The mood of the song is definitely different, but I liked where LeAnn took it. I expect Dolly's take to stick closer to the original though.

Very interesting! As a country lurker, I don't know much of country albums or artists... but the first time I heard the song The Story it was quite powerful. It's made me cry several times. Brandi's raw delivery is a key component for me, so i was a bit concerned about Dolly covering it. Don't get me wrong, I love Dolly. She can really emote! (I'm surely in the minority but I like her original version of IWALY more than Whitney's cover, as I can entirely believe Dolly) I just associate Dolly with other types of emotions and not the raw/punch on the stomach feeling that Brandi has in TS. I like the fact that several people here are quite confident :) In the meantime I'll take a listen to the album in full!
