We further suspect that the video will premiere during the 8/27 VMA broadcast, but based on Taylor's long-standing relationship with Apple Music it's possible that the clip will be exclusive there. Rumor has it there will be a new series of Apple-sponsored TV spots starring Swift. Will the full-length, likely coming in late October per Tay tradition, be available on all streaming platforms, including Spotify? The latter streamery contends it offers all comers two weeks of premium-only streaming to new releases before they go on its ad-supported free tier; could Taylor be the first major act to exploit this or even claim a longer honeymoon behind the paywall? In all likelihood, the album plan will unfold organically as the single progresses in the marketplace. In any event, Taylor is firmly in control of every aspect of the process.

I mean 50k points shouldn't be that hard to obtain for her but we've been wrong before. This year has been an odd one with the lack of women, ed Sheeran having one of the biggest songs of all time, a Spanish song tying Mariah, etc. If things go as expected, she could easily have the highest sales week and highest streaming whenever the video drops. But if Taylor doesn't debut at one, Despacito is gonna get something like 18/19 weeks, pretty weak summer overall.

Say if Taylor does in fact "underperform" or instead has a single that takes a few weeks to rise to the top, we're looking at 18-19 weeks for Despacito?
I don't know, I just don't see Cardi making it to #1 having to compete with the airplay of the current Top 2.

At the same time Despacito is beginning to fall and Wild Thoughts and Money Moves aren't crazy strong but...idk I just don't see public embracing the new song enough to send make it debut on the top. Female pop stars are struggling right now, there's been somewhat of a Taylor backlash after last era, and even if she puts her music on streaming she probably won't pull massive streaming numbers, which are too important now. |
