25. Mysterious Times (19): a bit hard to rank this one, and I may have ended up under-ranking it... 24. Turn the tide (32): this one felt more generic than others to me. 23. It's a fine day (34): I just love Opus III's version so much that this version paled in comparison. 22. Don't call me baby (4): WTF?!!! This is a jam and a half! Dance and pop combined into a super catchy tune with a great sampling. On top of that, I've always liked Ma Quale Idea or Que Idea, so it was great to see it reworked like that. This one should've made it much further! My first top 10 loss :'( 21. Never (26): this was a first listen and I had high expectations for a Tina Arena song.... I felt it could've been much stronger...

#20 Gigi D'Agostino - I'll Fly With You (L’Amour Toujours) [Bla Bla Bla Edit]Background Information: This song was originally released on Gigi’s album L’Amour Toujours in 1999 in Italy. It was released on vinyl in the U.S. in 2000 with remixes by Johnny Vicious on the Arista label. It wasn’t until 2001 when it finally began to get more airplay via the Bla Bla Bla Edit. The song is a melancholy duet between lovers, however both sets of vocals are done by the same person but they have been processed and pitch-shifted to create the female ones. The original single version in Italy was actually the Small Mix which is an edit of the Tanzen Vision remix. The Johnny Vicious mixes were very European sounding as he was going through a Trance phase. A special remix that is the most well-known was produced by DJ Hope for a San Francisco based remix service for DJs called the Mix Factor. This was the Bla Bla Bla Edit that eventually became the U.S. single mix. It used vocals from Gigi’s own “Bla Bla Bla” and the beats from Michael Moog’s “That Sound.” Strangely enough, no CD single was issued for "I'll Fly With You" in the U.S. The Bla Bla Bla Edit did not even appear on the U.S. pressing of the album. It eventually was released on several compilations. A vinyl single with that version was issued in the U.S. though. This single version helped it peak at 78 on the Hot 100. The album was also issued in the U.S. in 2001 on Arista with a slightly different tracklisting and just one more single was issued stateside which was “La Passion” which came out in much of Europe in 1999 and 2000. This too was vinyl only and didn’t even chart on the club charts. “Elisir (Your Love)” had been released in 1999 on Tommy Boy Silver Label under the name Gigi and that did nothing as well. Arista had a long tradition of signing Dance acts to their label which came to an end around this time. Some of their notables included Ace Of Base, No Mercy, Qkumba Zoo, Real McCoy, Robert Miles, and Snap!. Gigi was probably the last Dance act they signed. #19 Despina Vandi - GiaBackground Information: This was the lead single from the Greek singer's album of the same name in 2001 however it wasn't until 2003 that it truly became an international hit when an English version was recorded. The song was produced by Phoebus and the Bass Bumpers. It went on to peak at #1 on the Billboard Hot Dance Airplay chart. It was the first non-English song to peak on that chart at that time. #17 Moloko - Sing It Back (Boris' Musical Mix Edit)Background Information: This was originally released in 1999 from the duo's 2nd album. It was remixed by Boris Dlugosch and that version led to the songl peaking at #4 in the UK. The duo and their label had commissioned Todd Terry (the remixer who made Everything But The Girl's "Missing" so huge) to remix it however the duo felt that the remix was not quite right. They had had to beg to get the Boris mix released. The song peaked at #1 on the Club Play chart in the U.S. The remixed version was added to their 3rd album. Mousse T also remixed the song, creating a production that bore a striking resemblance to Donna Summer's classic "I Feel Love." Last one for this set of reveals. #16 Basement Jaxx - Red AlertBackground Information: This was the British duo’s international breakthrough after “Samba Magic” and “Fly Life” had been moderate underground hits. Singer Blu James provided the vocals. It went on to peak at #5 in the UK and #1 on the Billboard Club Play chart. This would be the first of many hits for the dynamic duo. I would say that "my revenge is coming", but I liked pretty much every song, so it would be a minor version of that, if anything. (Also, Disco, it looks like the rankings for 18 and 17 are the same.) 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 6 | 8 | 9 12 | 14 | 15 | 16 27 | 30 | 32 | 35 I think that I'm more shocked that my 30 is still alive than anything else. I thought that would be one of the first songs to go. Obviously, I was way off.

I could be mad at some of these recent eliminations but I'm not because its not like what's left isn't fantastic. Walker is still floating "Blue" too far up this thing but that's ok.

It was released in 2002 in the UK and the U.S It went on to peak at #35 on the Hot 100 and #29 on the Billboard Club Play chart. #14 4Strings - DivingBackground Information: This was the Dutch Trance group’s 4th single. 3rd technically as “Take Me Away (Into The Night)” was released twice, first as an instrumental and then as a vocal mix. It was almost as successful as their breakthrough “Take Me Away (Into The Night)”. This was their 3rd single to be released in the U.S. after TMA (ITN) and their debut "Daytime". It was their 2nd released on Ultra Records. #13 Fragma - Toca's MiracleBackground Information: This song began life as a bootleg mashup by British producer DJ Vimto which took the vocals from Coco Star's " I Need A Miracle" and the instrumental " Toca Me" by Fragma. The bootleg went around for a while before being turned official by Positiva Records. Both artists were on Positiva in the UK so it made licensing a little easier. Further updated remixes were done in 2008. However, Coco herself has revealed that Positiva didn’t use the correct vocals for the reproduced mashup as she had originally released the song on a different label before re-recording it for the Positiva release. When the mashup was made official, the vocals they used were from the first recording. Coco didn’t get properly paid or compensated until much later. She was also unhappy that Fragma used a different person to mime to her vocals in live performances. The song went on to be a huge club hit everywhere. It was a top 20 hit in the UK. Fun fact: Peter Rauhofer produced a mashup by accident using the acapella of Mariah Carey’s “We Belong Together” and the instrumental of the 2008 version when he was attempting to layer a different acapella over that instrumental during a set. After a fanmade version was produced, Peter rushed out a proper version of it. #12 DJ Sammy & Yanou feat. Do - HeavenBackground Information: This is a cover of the Bryan Adams hit. It was released in 2001. It was a collaboration of Spanish producer DJ Sammy and German DJ Yanou. Yanou is also a part of Cascada. This went on to peak at #1 in the UK and #8 in the U.S. A ballad version of the song called the Candlelight mix was also released and got a fair amount of airplay. Before it got licensed by Robbins Entertainment in the U.S., a cover of this cover was recorded by Eyra Gail which was a note-for-note remake. Last one for this round. #11 Motorcycle - As The Rush ComesBackground Information: This was a collaboration between San Francisco-based producers Josh Gabriel and Dave Dresden (Gabriel & Dresden) and singer Jes Brieden. It was released in 2004, however, it was produced in 2003. Tiesto featured a demo version of the song on his Nyana CD. The final version was more detailed and layered than the demo. A downtempo/chill version was also released in addition to several remixes by Above & Beyond, Armin Van Buuren, and Markus Schulz. It went top 10 throughout much of Europe and peaked at #1 on the Billboard Hot Dance Airplay chart. Jes still writes and records. I can't imagine that my #35 is surprising, at this point. If you switched it with "Diving" or "As the Rush Comes", this top ten would be just about perfect.

#10 Spiller feat. Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Groovejet (If This Ain't Love)Background Information: This song by Italian producer Cristiano Spiller began life as an instrumental that came out on one of his EPs in 1999. It was based on several samples from the Disco song “Love Is You” by Carol Williams from the legendary Salsoul label. Vocals were recorded by British singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor later on in an effort to give the song greater commercial appeal and the song was huge throughout Europe and the UK. It peaked at #1 in the UK and at #3 on the Billboard Club Play chart. It was the first song ever to be played on an iPod, specifically on a prototype unit in August 2001. And now comes the one that some were shocked to see make it this far. #9 Eiffel 65 - Blue (Da Ba Dee)Background Information: This was the Italian trio's debut single. It was recorded in 1998 but it wasn't released until 1999. It was a major hit throughout the world, peaking at #1 throughout most of Europe. It peaked at #6 in the U.S., mostly propelled by airplay as there was no widely available physical single (a vinyl single was issued to satisfy the condition of having a physical single out so there was no need to achieve a minimum position on the airplay chart to make the Hot 100). There were 4 different main versions. The DJ Ponte Ice Pop Edit is a shorter version of the full DJ Ponte mix. The 2nd radio edit doesn't have the 2nd verse which is just the 1st verse sung again. The 3rd version exactly the same as the 2nd one but it adds instrumental hook at the end of the final chorus instead of ending on the chorus like the previous version. The 4th version is the Extended Mix which got some of the airplay as well. It has repeat of the spoken part from the beginning leading into a chorus and the instrumental. A new version was released in 2009 to mark its 10 year anniversary.
