Highest sd eh? What's so bad for it to have 3 35 ranks?

#7 Darude - SandstormBackground Information: This was the debut single from the Finnish producer and DJ. It was first released in 1999. It was co-produced by JS16 (who had the hits “Love Supreme” and “Stomp To My Beat”). The single was quite successful internationally. It was licensed by independent Dance label Groovilicious in the U.S. and it went on to peak at #5 on the Billboard Club Play chart the first time in 2000. It was re-promoted to the clubs a second time in 2001 with new remixes by Superchumbo. It got a decent amount of airplay in the U.S. The followup single “Feel The Beat” only performed moderately well in the U.S. while that did better internationally. No other singles from the Before The Storm album were issued in the U.S. A number of bootleg mashups were made using this as the instrumental including " In and Out Of the Sandstorm" which used the vocals from ATFC & Onephatdeeva's "In and Out Of My Life" which borrowed from Adeva's song of the same name and then there was "Dive Into The Sandstorm" which used the acapella of Barry Harris & Pepper MaShay's "Dive Into The Pool." Yeah...I am quite surprised to see "Sandstorm" this high. Are you sure this isn't a mistake?

#5 Ian Van Dahl - Castles In The SkyBackground Information: This was the first single released by the Belgian Trance act. It peaked at #3 in the UK. It was the only single of IVD to feature vocals by singer Marsha. Annemie Coenen eventually replaced her and briefly mimed to those original vocals. After the IVD project ended, Annemie teamed up with producer Peter Luts (of Lasgo) to form AnnaGrace. Two main versions were really popular including the original version and the radio edit of the Peter Luts remix. Wouldn't have ever guessed that iiO would be one of the top two (I was expecting One More Time vs. Better Off Alone), but I'm not complaining!

Highest sd eh? What's so bad for it to have 3 35 ranks? It's easily one of the most annoyingly catchy songs in the history of recorded music, emphasis on the word "annoyingly". I get why someone would like it, because it IS catchy, but...you have to be able to see the other side of this, too. Top ten wound up being pretty awesome once "Blue" went out. "One More Time" not being #1 is...a little irksome, if only because I think it's far and away my #1, even in a strong group of songs such as these, but I'm pleasantly surprised that my #2 is in the top two, so that makes up for it. Top two is also 2 vs. 6, so even if my 2 doesn't win, my 6 is a deserving winner, too.

So what is it, 'Better Off Alone' versus 'Rapture'? Really hoping 'Rapture' takes the win.

#2 iiO - Rapture (Tastes So Sweet)Background Information: This was the debut single from the NY-based duo of singer-songwriter Nadia Ali and producer Markus Moser. They were originally going to call themselves Vaiio but that would have caused issues with Sony. The single was released in 2001 and it became a huge hit in the clubs. It peaked at #2 on the Billboard Club Play chart though it was far more popular than its peak indicates. It peaked at #44 on the Hot 100 the following year. Subsequent singles did really well on the Club Play chart and they got substantial airplay on Dance radio stations. iiO released 2 artist albums including Poetica and Exit 110 and a collection of remixes of their singles. Nadia Ali continues to be one of the most sought after vocalists in Dance music. She has since released a number of solo singles and albums. Nadia re-recorded “Rapture (Tastes So Sweet)” in 2010 and it had a remix by Avicii. So that means this is our #1... #1 Alice Deejay - Better Off AloneBackground Information: This was the Dutch group’s debut single originally released in 1998. It was an instrumental released by DJ Jurgen. Vocals by Judith Pronk were recorded later and she continued to be the vocalist for the group on their one and only album Who Needs Guitars Anyway?. Some releases of the single credited the artist as DJ Jurgen Presents Alice Deejay. The song went on to be a huge hit all over the world. It began to get airplay in the U.S. at the end of 1999 and then it finally began to get a lot of play in 2000. It managed to peak at #27 on the Hot 100 based on airplay only in 2000. A vinyl single was released in the U.S. so it would have a physical component. A proper CD single was not released so their album would actually sell. Two different music videos exist for the song. One does not feature the members of the group while the other does. The one with the group is a special U.S. version. It has been said that the group missed their flight when it came time to film the video the first time so that’s why they weren’t in it. There were remixes of this by DJ Jam X & Dumonde, Marc Van Dale with Enrico, Pronti & Kalmani, and Signum. There was a very famous bootleg mashup of Rozalla’s “Everybody’s Free” which uses the instrumental version of this. The song went on to be sampled by David Guetta for his song “Play Hard.” EDM heavy remixes by Laidback Luke were done in the mid 2000s. “Back In My Life” was released as the 2nd single in the U.S. however it didn’t do much at all. It did briefly chart on the Biilboard Club Play chart. No other single was released in the U.S. “Will I Ever”, “The Lonely One” (which was produced by Airscape), and “Celebrate Our Love” were released as singles after that in Europe. The group disbanded in 2001. Singer Judith has since become a successful and very in demand stylist and makeup artist. Wow, it was a really close one. I'm very glad I participated. I don't think I had heard of the #2 song before this rankdown (yes, I know...), and yet it came so close to winning, to my surprise.

What can I say? I can't help it that the results were the way they were. When I announced this, I was thinking that either "One More Time" or "Blue (Da Ba Dee)" would be the #1. I was surprised that certain ones finished really low and that others made it so high.
