I think this song would have been better if it were just Taylor on it and the horrid chant was removed. I like Taylor's parts for the most part on this one, but that's it – both Future and Ed Sheeran supply nothing to this.

Yeah, if they go with IDSB next I'm done with this era tbh. Delicate next. If it works (top 5 at the very least on Pop, top 10 on the Hot 100) then you couldn't go wrong with either Don't Blame Me, Getaway Car or IDSB (with a feature). Even as a Stan of this album, and IDSB (should have been the first single), it will be the most ignorant single release I’ve seen. This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things was being tested at my work, and got a surprisingly positive reaction. If they want to keep shoving bad bitch Taylor in everyone’s face, that would be a better choice. It’s production is easier on the ears too, and is more accessible. IDSB gets a little screechy on the chorus and has a poor mix job.

I'm not here for any more bad bitch singles. Even though the material is good, I can't wait for the next era already. Her being invisible is ruining all the fun.

Wow Third single in a row that has a huge fall after peaking. And this one pretty quickly after being sent for adds. Change of direction is needed to avoid another disappointment

Welp, this is in freefall about a month after the video dropped. I don't think it will make it many more weeks on the chart. Taylor, you need to promote sweetie.

That's a shame. This song is absolute FIRE, and the catchiest song off Reputation. (I adore it.)
At its core, the music isn't connecting, and Taylor herself isn't putting herself out there to connect to the masses to make up for it.
You can't pull a Beyonce if the music isn't connecting viscerally. I don't think Reputation did.
Beyonce did an unusual marketing strategy, and Taylor tried this hybrid of a normal album rollout, and normal single rollout, but with no promo, and I don't think it's working.
I really wish Reputation had been a visual album. It would've killed. If you're not gonna put yourself out there, you really gotta give something more to the masses than one song every few months. Especially because Reputation is, thematically, complex enough that it needs much more support by way of videos, or press, or something, in order to help make it connect.
I'm also pretty disappointed in the video. I get that it's a grown up 22, but like, geez -- like I ranted earlier in the thread, the song literally has more weight, complexity, and nuance of theme, than the fluff music video. The video really irritates, because here's this massively acclaimed director who didn't bring out the strongpoints of the song.
Yup, definitely disappointing. There was no reason for this.

It’s surprising to me that Joseph Khan struck out so soundly on two videos in a row, despite a stellar start to the era.
I’m interested to see what direction they go in next. Do they read the tea leaves and change direction (Getaway Car, Dancing with Our Hands Tied)? Do they just go with the next best performing track (Delicate)? Do they make a hard left turn (Don’t Blame Me)? Do they say fuck it and do what they want (I Did Something Bad)? Tbh, any of these options are personal preferences over the three singles we’ve gotten so far, even if End Game was the most made for radio.
Also, I feel the need to note that choosing Delicate would not be the change in direction that some are saying it would be. “My reputation’s never been worse...” it’s more bad reputation stuff that the general public doesn’t seem to be here for, just a more toned down and nuanced version of it.

LWYMMD aside, I don’t think the problem is the music at all.
She’s just reached overexposure so nothing they put out is going to connect right now. Obviously Taylor is at the point where she doesn’t need promotion so that’s not a valid reason.
She’s probably going to take a break after this era and go back to her roots. There’s no real point for them to release anything else from this era and I think it could actually do more harm since the problem is her actual presence rn.

She tried the bad girl image to appease pop fans but it's not working. It's turning people off, especially her hardcore country fans. She needs to go back to the good girl image for her next era and she will do just fine.

That may sound stupid but she listens to a lot of indie pop/rock and synthpop based on her playlists. She should FINALLY go down that road (I've been saying this since 2016 so you're probably tired of me). Bleachers and HAIM have great stuff and she could pull off something like that. It's not like she's going from Electropop to Hard Rock lol

I don't really think the problem is the image so much as the message behind it. It's extremely tone deaf given the public thinks she's conniving and the innocent victim shitck is a load of shit. She's just reinforced the negative shift in the general public's perception of her. Not to constantly compare this era to BTW, but it's similar to how people felt like Gaga was extra and thirsty for attention towards the end of The Fame and then everything about BTW just reinforced that perception.

This. For this era, she's come across as an entitled, tone-deaf, wealthy white girl. She calculated that the GP would care about her reputation, and they simply don't. She's evolved to be far less relatable and it's doing her a disservice.

Am I the only one that thinks they should go with CIWYW? It’s probaby the only song that could save this album, it’s cute and that’s what the general public wants from Taylor.

I don't see Getaway Car as being about her being a badass. It's an admission that she did something dodgy and but it seems like she wishes Tom would've gone along with things without expecting it to last? IDK but she definitely seems more conflicted there than on I Did Something Bad.
Do we really know why her songs aren't connecting though? From what I've seen although a few people aren't into her new music, often those weren't into her old music either. Maybe people think she's had a good run and are more interested in seeing an underdog have their time in the spotlight?

I also think Getaway Car would work. But I agree with Gorgeous being a good option, just not now. It's a bubbly and silly song, it would get a nice response from the GP. Too bad it's too late for that one.
Delicate, Getaway Car and Don't Blame Me are obvious choices. If none of those songs saves the era, she's done with rep.

"Delicate" and "Dancing With Our Hands Tied" ftw. They could really work and they're from the delicate/soft side of the album.
However, "Gorgeous" could work too lol. I just think they'll skip it cause it was a promo single and maybe they're going for something that could showcase her songwriting? I've no idea. They're definitely going with IDSB though.

Is the next single confirmed by any source? DWOHT is my most played song on the album excluding singles. I think that one could smash. Honestly, the album has a lot of good potential singles from a stan standpoint but I have no idea what other people think of songs like Don't Blame Me

That may sound stupid but she listens to a lot of indie pop/rock and synthpop based on her playlists. She should FINALLY go down that road (I've been saying this since 2016 so you're probably tired of me). Bleachers and HAIM have great stuff and she could pull off something like that. It's not like she's going from Electropop to Hard Rock lol She already does that. The last three records have kept the singles aligned with whatever sound is commercially popular at the time, while the album track list commercializes whatever is popular in the indie scene. Her album tracks are literally a commercialized time-capsul of indie trends that exist during its release, while entrusting Max Martian to get the hits that are CHR ready, while not sounding out of place in the album. She cannibalized the indie coffee-shop acoustic songbird that was prominent during 2010-2012 period with Red: State Of Grace Treacherous Stay Stay Stay Holy Ground Lucky One Everything Has Changed Begin Again 1989: this is where indie musicians started incorporating more beat driven songs, and mixing it with guitars and big stadium sounding drums. AKA: HAIM etc and she cannibalized that trend throughout the track list. I could write about reputation, but you get the drift. You’re literally talking about one of the most business savvy, calculated stats this industry has seen. She knows to dabble in Lorde and Jack Antonoff, without going too left so she can still sweep the Grammy’s and break records/sell out stadiums etc on the commercial level. And she knows to work with the people that bring the hits and numbers, but balance it out in a track list of Jack Antonoff so she’s not written off as a disposable pop tart.

Maybe the success of Taylor lies in the fact that she can appeal the masses with both indie tracks and CHR smashes. I'm not gonna lie, I love her pop material but it's in tracks like State Of Grace and Holy Ground where she really shines. Maybe that's why reputation isn't as big as her 2 previous albums, except for songs like CIWYW this album isn't really anything new nor does it appeal indie crowds like 1989 and Red did. She is struggling because so far she is lacking a radio hit and mesmerizing album tracks like All Too Well. Maybe the new direction for her lies exactly on her old direction after all.
