This already done? I figured it would have a fast rise and fall but I didn't think it would be this fast. Anyone have the chart run?

Him and Taylor did the same release strategy. It’s messy. I get the point of releasing songs prior to the album, but sending them to adds on various formats, radio arbitrarily spinning them (Gorgeous), just causes public confusion and fucks up future multi-format single potential once the album is released.
Adele is the only one that did it right. Arguably, she would have to put it on streaming by the third week in 2018, but riding with a clear single, and releasing only one additional single prior the albums release it’s the way to go I think.

Releasing multiple songs before a project drops is fine, but not when the lead single sucks. If Taylor and Justin had released a song that truly connected with radio, then radio wouldn't be trying so desperately to play their other pre-release songs.

This day and age is different and quicker but 3 weeks is a pretty short time for a superstar artist to peak at Top 40. Out of curiosity how long did it take "Perfect Illusion", Give Me All Your Luvin, Not Myself Tonight, Focus, Judas and Work Bitch" to peak around??? I thought the normal of dropping a superstar release was usually 5-8 weeks.

This song is apparently discounted now.

Will this weeks update clocking the song in at #14 make this his worst charting first single?! Time will tell!

Is it possible that this can have a resurgence if he puts on a good performance today?

I couldn’t wait to scrape this trash from my personal charts. Just added Say Something today and it’s already miles better. haven’t heard supplies yet but I will add that after say something in a few weeks or months if it lasts. The rest of the cd was just average at best to me.

The discount is helping. If this is performed, we might see a huge reversal.

SB did wonders for Million Reasons so there's a chance. Sales will certainly spike if performed. It's currently #8 on iTunes, (light green) This is facing two big negatives that MR didn't, though: 1. It's already dropping (-172 spins today). 2. It's not a good song. Their efforts should be saved for Say Something which has gotten a seemingly much better reception so far.

If God herself couldn't have gotten Piece by Piece the idol live version on the radio there's no way in hell this is gonna. Also live versions aren't ever sent to radio.

^^^ The live recordings of Mariah Carey's "I'll Be There", Rod Stewart's "Have I Told You Lately", and Sarah McLachlan's "I Will Remember You" were proper radio singles. Although for the first two, there is no proper studio version.

This came off the worst of the songs performed with a significant margin imo.
Hopefully with the SB now done, he can hit the promo circuit with Chris and push SS. This is already falling and I don't expect it to get good callout when the scores come back.

The more I listen to this, the less I think that it's bad. I just think it's really inaccessible.

Also live versions aren't ever sent to radio. PBP went top 5, and my local hot AC (WWBX/WBMX) aired the Idol version.

The need to forget this crap exists and start pushing the hell out of "Say Something." That's clearly the song that has connected and can get him the hit he needs right now.

If God herself couldn't have gotten Piece by Piece the idol live version on the radio there's no way in hell this is gonna. Also live versions aren't ever sent to radio. PBP went top 5, and my local hot AC (WWBX/WBMX) aired the Idol version. PBP did not attain a top 5 peak anywhere but Scotland. It peaked at #8 on the Hot 100 and #6 on HAC. And the live version (as in actual audio from the performance) was never sent to radio - rather, Kelly recorded and released a studio version of the Idol arrangement immediately after the reaction to her Idol performance. This is likely what your local HAC played. Keep in mind, too, that PBP had been sent to radio as a single months before Kelly performed it on Idol, so the song was hella old by radio standards. Even with a new version, no way was pop going to revive it without some major payola push from the label. I don't think a live version of a song has been sent to radio since...Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me? I'll Be There? Tears In Heaven? Somewhere in that time frame. It wasn't the rarest thing in the world in the early '90s, but then that is b/c the early '90s were dominated by an AC sound where a live ballad could blend in (and also b/c for the three songs I mentioned at least, the audio could be cleaned up such that the vocals sounded as flawless and clear as a studio version). No one could pull that off on radio today. Agreeed with Ling-Ling that it is time for Justin to move on to SS. Filthy is not outright flopping, but it's also not likely to take off and have a substantial enough run to give the album legs. SS is really the only thing he has right now that is receiving a purely positive reception in spite of everything else.

#Oop that moment when a Kelly fan gets her stats wrong. @antigonerising PBP DID in fact manage a top 5 peak on Hot AC.

I even double-checked before posting b/c I didn't want to rely solely on my memory, which was her hitting top 10 there but just barely missing it on AC.

Ah. I don't use Mediabase. (Not trying to be flippant; I legit always let the Mediabase differences slip my mind when tracking stats, even though I shouldn't b/c all the pop gerls use Mediabase and get thrown when the Billboard peaks don't match.)

This sounds so completely out of place on the album but I still love it.
Definitely his least accessible single.
