people with little knowledge of Dance Music refer to any and every Dance song as "Techno"???
This really bothers me. Techno is only 1 small branch of Dance & it borders on Electronica sometimes depending on the artist. My sister messes constantly and it really bothers me.
It also bothers me when people say "Every techno song sounds the same to me"

It REALLY REALLY bothers me SO much. in reality, hardly ANYTHING is 'techno' anymore. I really don't like 'techno' as opposed to the other forms.
It really gets me when people call Trance 'techno.' They do all the time.

IT ANNOYS ME TO SO F*CKING MUCH! IT PISSES ME OFF!
"Techno" is a whole other genre. And lumping all dance music into that genre is not correct at all. There's very little actual techno music out at the moment.

Yeah, it does annoy me a lot too. I have to get into the separate genres and bring out words like "House" and "Trance" and "Beats".

It used to bug me, but I've gotten so used to it. People would say it just to make fun of me. They'd be like "Oh, I really like that new Cascada TECHNO, er I mean dance, song".

^ What would that song be classified as? It would be classified under the genre of trance, and maybe even Euro Hi-NRG.

Cascada is trance. You could call them Eurodance too, or Euro Hi-NRG as well...

It used to bother me more, but now it's just laughable. Techno seems to have a better name than Dance anyway. Techno seems to be the word that is used when people want to sound cool, but Dance, unfortunately is not so hip (unless you're gay, but even then you'll hear the term techno used liberally and incorrectly).

I'd go with Euro, Eurotrance, or even Trance-Pop for Cascada. Pure Trance fans would get pissed if you just referred to it as Trance.

The other problem is that too often people will call a pop or hip-hop song "dance". That actually annoys me more than "techno" because it confuses the dance genre's identity.

With the recent surge in dance-leaning/dance-oriented hip hip songs, I have just started referring to those as "dance-leaning" instead because it's a more accurate description.

I'd go with Euro, Eurotrance, or even Trance-Pop for Cascada. Pure Trance fans would get pissed if you just referred to it as Trance. Pure trance fans enjoy and embrace all kinds of trance, like me...including the generic and poppy.cheesy trance - which is about 85% of all trance. People who exclusively listen to Armin Van Buuren, Tiesto, etc. are not 'Pure Trance fans' because they only like a select few artists. They are the kind of people who think they know everything about trance and what good 'trance music' is. Little do they know, they just actually DON'T LIKE the genre they say that they are obsessed with. Cascada is trance. If you said there were just pop, I think you'd get a more negative response. Also isn't almost ALL of trance 'TRANCE-POP?' Come on.

hmmm yeah if u call Cascada Trance they would kill u in boards like tranceaddict.com they think stuff like that gives trance a bad name. Like DJ sammy is probably the most hated by them its complete cheese they say. I think its actually not that bad as cheese stuff like DJ Sammy is what makes some people actually get interested in the genre then they wanna know more about the genre n find out about Tiesto, Paul Van Dyk, Armin Van Buuren etc. So mainstream cheese trance actually gains new fans in a way.

I came across a forum with the title "Which do you prefer, house or trance?" The question pissed me off and I got really annoyed that people actually replied to it. I told everyone that trance is a sub-genre of house. After posting my reply, the forum stopped.

Maybe instead of complaining about people that don't know the difference, you can enlighten them. Personally, I don't really know the difference between trance and techno and drum and bass and electronica and everything else. I would like to know tho because there are a few styles of dance music that I like but I don't know what they are.

This should help explain the differences between various types of electronic dance music. Ishkur's Guide to Electronic Music: www.ishkur.com/music/

That's MTV's whole Dance Video Award thing on the MTV Video Awards. None of the videos are true dance. Or close to it.

i dislike trance, Tribal & euro-trash beats. i really dislike them, they just give me a big headache. it sucks because once in a while a song will be a hit on radio (like Cascada) and that's the image it portrays on the radio ... that all dance music is euro-beats-trance-ish type songs. i wish once in a while radio would give a remix a dance remixes a chance... or even an original house song.. but fukc, if madonna couldn't get the radio to play an uptempo pop song like "Hung Up", i doubt they'll give anything more dancey sounding a chance anytime soon
House, Electronica & Chillout are for me

So little of it is still techno/ Your safer calling it all 'dance' or 'trance' or 'house.'

That Ishkur page was really interesting (if not biased!). It's amazing how electronic music has evolved.
