I heard this a few times on the radio over the last few weeks, but this is the first time I'm actually able to focus on the song fully. I really liked it at first and thought it could be one of my favorite Muse singles ever. However, since I watched ARTV speak about the "Whoa. Oh. Whoa. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh." in a recent video of how much of a lazy cliche it is, I don't enjoy it nearly as much. Still, I think so much better than most of you are saying. Honestly, most songs on the chart in any era feature a heavily used musical element of some sort. I'm not going to let that ruin a song for me. I don't think it's lazy in this case, just a trend they embraced and did well. Also, this still feels like a rock song to me. Guitars still play a significant part in this song, even if the synthesizers are a bit more dominant, plus keyboards have always had a place in rock and roll anyway. I'll admit that I have a hard time appreciating some modern musical styles, but this one incorporates them in a way that still hits a sweet spot for me.

I don't think the "woah oh" part it meant to cut corners form a lazy catchy chorus lyrically, I think it's supposed to contribute musically, and IMO it works well.

2 1 IMAGINE DRAGONS Whatever It Takes 3169 3158 11 13.738 3 2 LOVELYTHEBAND Broken 3105 3004 101 12.152 1 3 PORTUGAL. THE MAN Live In The Moment 3098 3261 -163 11.783 4 4 FOSTER THE PEOPLE Sit Next To Me 2784 2842 -58 11.362 5 5 MUSE Thought Contagion 2593 2534 59 8.988 10 6 THIRTY SECONDS TO MARS Dangerous Night 2098 2005 93 7.11 9 7 AWOLNATION Handyman 2091 2008 83 7.597
So this looks like it could actually be reaching its peak, with its bullet slowing down, several songs ahead dying slowly, and two songs behind it coming with bigger bullets (though not by much). At minimum it should pass SNTM and LITM soon, so at least it’ll likely get to #3 I suppose.

Now #2.
3 2 MUSE Thought Contagion 2886 2804 82 10.049
Looks like it's between this & "&Run" to be the next number one.

Looks like 2018 continues to be the weakest year for #1 Alt songs yet.

It feels like almost any Muse song that's been released, which is either a blessing or a curse.
It lacks the replay factor of Uprising, so I guess it's kind of meh?

Good for them. Now can we finally get a proper Muse song for single #3?

They once again show why they are the best in alternative. This was definitely a grower but I am loving it now, and even Rock 94.7 is playing this.

1 7 MUSE Thought Contagion 2404 2958 -554 8.406 Ouch I just saw this too, what happened? I never thought this song was good at all, never expected it to go #1, sure enough it did. Then look today and it massively dropped. That’s a huge plummet. Have we ever seen a #1 fall this hard?

(Warner Bros., with the latter on the Reprise division)

Probably can guess why that happened...
Bang Bang was as good as Thought Contagion, and Thought Contagion will get as played as much on recurrent as “Bang Bang” did too. Man, I can’t even place what year that was, was that the lead single that had 21 Guns come after it?

Man, I can’t even place what year that was, was that the lead single that had 21 Guns come after it? Bang Bang was actually the lead from their most recent album a couple years ago. Idk if you remember Still Breathing — that was the followup and while it didn’t cross over like 21G did, it was a multiweek #1 on both active and alt.
