Metal is coming to CHR. This has been sitting pretty at #1 on iTunes for a few days now, so the label is jumping on the opportunity. It's under Cool New Music.

All for this. Hopefully this can be 2018's "The Sound of Silence" in terms of mainstream success.

Ya know what? This decade has seen a pure pop phase, an EDM phase, and now we're deeeep into our hip-hop phase. Why the hell not close it out with a heavy rock phase?
I'm in.

You know if rockstar can get to #4 on CHR I can see this doing well
It's also heavy, but not really. Like this could be perfectly acceptable on pop radio, unlike some other metal songs. It's basically as heavy as Centuries, which went Top 10 on CHR and the Hot 100.

This has a short-term viral following, but I don't think it will be a hit.

I think it's a very respectful homage to a great song (that it was massive all over Europe but underperformed on Uk and USA)

It kind of makes sense that the hard rock that is getting mainstream traction is a cover of a beloved song most people are familiar with, yet different enough to stand on its own
THAT BEING SAID if this becomes an actual hit, it would be THE weirdest cross over hit of the whole decade

Creed is coming back to pop radio? I really want to like this cover and would love for it to be a hit but yeah, the style reminds me too much of bands like Creed with the vocal inflections of the singer. With that said, if this somehow became a mainstream hit and led the way for a comeback of sorts for rock on pop radio, I'd take it.

This isn't my favorite song of the year by any means (though I do really like it), but this chart run might be the most important one of the year honestly. I'm sick of rock songs getting ignored by Pop radio. Kids these days are going to grow up with a phobia of guitars. There's plenty of good quality rock music that's catchy and accessible that goes largely ignored every year. Variety on the Pop charts is always a good thing IMO, and lately it seems generic EDM and trap R&B is all that gets played anymore.

I was going to disagree, but a lot of country and indie pop, genres with a lot of guitars, are also ignored for the most part. So I do hope this becomes big. I wouldn't mind it at all.

It's too late. My gen Z niece is already terrified of guitars. She has nightmares every night of turning on the radio and accidentally hearing a song with a guitar in it! She gets so scared that she immediately wakes up, asks herself what a radio is, grabs her phone and cues up Today's Top Hits from Spotify, known for being completely devoid of guitars.
It's what all the kids are doing these days.

Variety on the Pop charts is always a good thing IMO, and lately it seems generic EDM and trap R&B is all that gets played anymore. To be fair, rock musicians don't send their songs to any other formats aside from rock/alternative and they tend to stay in their own little circle. Rock bands are not very charismatic or have very much star power which makes them even less accessible, they make zero major award show appearances or performances. They also all tend to sound the same, I'll listen to JJO for an hour and sometimes I cannot tell the difference between voices and songs, they bleed into each other. Also many rock bands express a distaste for pop music and fans of pop music which turns off pop fans. All of these examples showcase why rock isn't big in the mainstream anymore, and maybe Bad Wolves will change that. I do think they should start doing interviews and getting their faces out there since they are virtually unknown, and maybe they should eventually drop some of their own music soon. Starting off your commercial success with a cover is bad juju cough Alien Ant Farm cough.

All of these examples showcase why rock isn't big in the mainstream anymore I don't disagree with most of these points, though the reasoning behind them might be different than what could be intended. Rock music is somewhat present at award shows but not so much, but also it's worth mentioning that since rock isn't as mainstream these days, why would they be present at award shows? I wouldn't blame rock acts for not being present or not having "star power". The one I disagree with most is rock sounding the same - that's such an ignorant comment. The one I'd most agree with is rock acts expressing a distaste for pop music and pop fans.

I was a big fan of the original Cranberries song. I think this is nicely done and is a fitting tribute. The lyrics and message of the song are just as relevant today as they were back then. I don't know yet if this will bring Rock back to Pop radio, but it would be nice to have more representation of that style by someone other than Imagine Dragons or 21 Pilots (nothing against them, just that it's only those two mainly).
