A BATTLE FOR #1, WITH ADDED X FACTOR? A battle for #1 appears to be shaping up on this week’s Top 50 chart, with the surprise drop by The Carters (aka Beyoncé and Jay-Z) giving the new album from Capitol’s 5 Seconds of Summer a run for its money. Both The Carters (a Roc Nation/UMG-Parkwood/Columbia co-release) and 5SOS are currently on track to do about 120k. But there’s a wild-card factor to consider: XXXtentacion, whose death in a 6/18 shooting has caused a rush of support at both streaming services and digital retail. The late rapper has returned to the Top 10 at Spotify and has four of the Top 5 songs at Apple Music—will this activity be sufficiently intense and sustained to make XXX a contender for #1 as well? Another lingering question mark is the impact of Tidal, which had The Carters as an exclusive over their opening weekend—they seem to have some juice over there—and which has been the subject of no small amount of controversy regarding its reported numbers. Then there’s Spotify, which appears to have kept Jay and Bey off its most trafficked real estate as a consequence of the Tidal exclusive. How seriously will these two streameries affect their total? hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=312310

Extremely disappointing numbers for Bey-Z if this holds. I can see XXXTentacion being #1 quite easily with what he'll get from streaming.

So if this album debuts at no.2 will it end Beyoncé’s album streak of having 6 consecutive number one albums? Or will that not be the case because it’s not credited as a Beyoncé and Jay Z album but “The Carter’s”.

XXX also currently has 4 of the top 8 at iTunes. I know downloads aren't much these days, but those track sales translate to some albums sales, no?

Terrible for Bey and Jay. Shouldn't even be a competition for #1.

Oh wow oh wow. Even if the married couple manage to debut at #1 they've already lost since they're far behind the actual #1 seller. There's simply no excuse for them to not be able to outsell a boyband that's not even crossing 100k in sales.
Xtina's numbers are quite good and about double than what I expected.
Here for Legend X (the male one) to block everyone though.

Those numbers are pretty much bang on what I was hoping for with Christina - good for her.
Bey-Z seems low? Surely they'll go higher than that?

Do they normally release the bundle numbers? I thought they did for Pink, but maybe people were just guessing. I'd be curious to see what kind of boost Christina got, as it might help frame my expectations for if/when Kelly does a tour bundle (if she ever announces her goddamn tour...).

Yeah that is a really solid total for Christina. It's an impressive total for 5SOS. It's a poor total for The Carters, even accounting for the late and staggered releases.

Bey should really just thank herself for making one silly mistake after another. She and her hubby dropped an album few people wanted. So now, she has something that's about to open in the lower 100k, congrats. Those numbers are pretty shocking to me... Even though I think that album is a mess, I'd thought she'd open with 200k or higher. It almost feels like, their relevancy is a PR stunt too.

125K. That's what she gets. WE DON'T WANT JAY-Z and WE DAMN SURE DON'T WANT TRAPONCE.

Is it possible for Post Malone and DMB to beat either of these? Man that's terrible for Bey. Even Katy Perry did better than that

Is it possible for Post Malone and DMB to beat either of these? Man that's terrible for Bey. Even Katy Perry did better than that DMB is probably going to crash since they were boosted by a ticket bundle. (The album is amazing though.) I don't even think they will be anywhere near 100,000 this week.

With one day of sales and streams info for The Carters it should be a close race for #1 against 5 Seconds of Summer. The wild card in that contest is what Tidal will report. Meanwhile, will the late XXXtentacion's music gain momentum in the wake of his death, as fans flock to streaming and retail for his work?

I don’t think Bey realizes that since “Lemonade”, a lot of her fans actually HATE Jay Z. Or people are burnt on the narrative.
She’d do better if it was a surprise solo drop I think. Now her #1 streak might be ruined.
...Really good numbers for Christina on the other hand!
