Will likely outperform "Let It Go" as that one just had great sales, decent streaming, and great airplay from AC, minor airplay from Hot AC, and a tiny amount from pop. This has great sales, good streaming, and is set to outpace LIG on all three formats for airplay. LIG was #5 on the year end streaming chart for 2014. www.billboard.com/charts/year-end/2014/streaming-songsI don’t know how it did on Spotify, but it has billions of Youtube views. I was referring to its Hot 100 peak, not its totals across platforms. LIG peaked at #2 on streaming, yes, but in relationship to other songs around it, in conjunction with its sales and airplay, it only peaked at #5 on the Hot 100 several months after the film's release. Its totals are insane because of the longevity it had, I'm not denying that, and its peak is still fantastic, no doubt about that. I just think, since we're only week two into this film's release and it's already at the same Hot 100 peak, it's likely to outpeak it on both the Hot 100 and all major components. (By position and relation to other songs around it, it's already outpeaked in sales.) Will it beat the totals? Maybe. Like I said, LIG had insane longevity. It will help if Shallow is either able to break away from being "just from the movie" or if the film has exceptional legs through the holidays, award season, and home video release (which is what fueled LIG for so long). Complete tangent, but the fact that LIG was so massive in streaming despite only being around 200 million on Spotify is so weird. Proof that little kids hang out on YouTube a lot.

Let It Go was a huge pop culture moment, specially for younger people and kids. I don't see this approaching that, but that still leaves plenty of room for it to be a hit on it's own.
Lady Gaga getting a top 5 hit in 2018 is great. I'm just gonna sit here and wait for the pop album we've deserved since ARTPOP dissappointed, don't mind me.

Sorry but to compare this to a FROZEN theme song (a Disney movie for kids) is totally pointless. I'd compare this situation here to what happened with Black Panther or The Greatest Showman.
I mean I'd LOVE Gaga to be inspiration to 4 year-old-girls like Elsa but yeah...

"I'm a Mess" is a pure pop song and it's actually clever stop trashing it. Well it's clearly driven by her looks which are a good platform for pop singers' success. Once the buzz of her duck throaty vocals wears off (oh wait it already has... poor Bebe can't even reach top40) we will all wonder if it was a top 40 or not. Better give yourself some time to know about Posting Rules before you post something like this next time. 1. Stay on topic.

This song is clearly movie driven it's a huge platform to bring early success. Radio is not playing material like this even though it's a good effort. Once the movie buzz wears off its just like the SuperBowl a quick Top 5 hit. Wanna bet that this will go way better than the horrible mess that is "I am a mess"? Most adds on HAC and the midday spotify numbers are : 36.179.456 (+3.473.885). Most it ever had. The movie is already on its 3rd week and instead of wearing off the song goes up and up. Hopefully that means we will be getting more songs like this on the radio. I don't mean just like this but songs with a melody and a genuine vocal that doesn't sound like a computer is singing to me. Yes I'm getting old and I want to feel songs that have some emotion on the radio....

Do we think they go with this for the Oscar nods or the closing track? I know the latter was the original plan but this is overshadowing it by a healthy margin.
(And honestly I'm kind of sad that there's some strong competition against "All the Stars", which I still love more than anything on the ASIB soundtrack)

I personally think All the Stars is very well worth an Oscar, I love it so much. I just need Gaga to get at least ONE award, no matter what it is.

I mean I'd LOVE Gaga to be inspiration to 4 year-old-girls like Elsa but yeah... It’s not that unreasonable though. I’d say Shallow has a better chance of existing outside the context of the movie it’s from whereas Let It Go can only ever exist as the song from Frozen. So while that can be a huge plus for it, because Frozen was such a massive cultural moment, it’s also limiting and probably why radio was so reluctant to pick it up. I’d say it’s most appropriate to compare Shallow to a musical perhaps like the Greatest Showman or even something from the Hamilton Mixtape, if anything from that had managed to become a standalone hit. The Black Panther comparison not so much because while those songs were inspired by the film, they’re not completely reliant on the movie.

The Black Panther comparison not so much because while those songs were inspired by the film, they’re not completely reliant on the movie. That's true, I was thinking of more about the whole movie thing as I don't see ANY resemblance between ASIB and Frozen in terms of pop culture relevance. They are very different kind of movies and thus the music is very different. I don't believe (a bit of pessimistic of me, I know) that Shallow will become a big radio hit as it relies heavily on what happens in the movie, I'm gladly proven wrong though. So IF Shallow somehow manages top 3 let alone #1 on Hot 100, it must happen in very near future and base on streaming and sales.

6. No nonsense posts. 1. I stayed on topic. Many times we compare 2 songs that compete on the charts. Since when I am out of topic? 4. I didn't troll. I just stated my opinion about another song that he thinks it's amazing with exactly THE SAME ATTITUDE. 6. Nonsense for you. I think I made my point clear.

Beautiful vocals. It's Gaga so that was expected. As to the song, it's ok for me. It will probably grow with more listens. Good that she scored another top 5 hit.

This is a gorgeous song and I'm all for it being a hit! I wasn't really expecting it to blow up, so anything it does would just be great, honestly. Hopefully if it does it'll bode well for when she launches her next album era. I'm also still dying to see the movie; I'm gonna try to make that happen next week.

Epic ballad from a much-loved blockbuster movie starring a major pop star. Let's face it, in the 90s this would have been number one for 10+ weeks. I'm getting old, but it is really strange to me that this is not getting more radio support. Also, "I'll Never Love Again" sounds like "I Will Always Love You (part II)" and would also have been massive in the 90s.
