#17. "Ol' Country"
Total Points: 315 Average: 22.5 Year Released: January, 1993 Radio & Records Peak: #5 Billboard Peak: #4 Rankings:gardyfan - 4 tim - 6 George Strait Junkie - 10 kw9461 - 12 ClevelandRox - 17 sabre14 - 17 zack97 - 20 Cody Wants Out... - 21 CoJoFan - 24 LBTrocks - 29 .indulgecountry - 35 castleoblivion26 - 38 bboat11 - 41 Kanenrá:ke - 41 "Ol' Country" was the fourth and final single off Mark Chesnutt's Longnecks & Short Stories album in January of 1993. It peaked at #4 on Billboard the last week of March. It was written by Bobby Harden. It's also referenced as "Old Country", but was credited as "Ol' Country" when it charted at radio.
Great song here from Mark but my top 10-15 was stacked, so #17 is the highest I could place it. It's a really simple story but the melody and vocals really sell it.

#16. "It Wouldn't Hurt To Have Wings"
Total Points: 306 Average: 21.8 Year Released: December, 1995 Radio & Records Peak: #4 Billboard Peak: #7 Rankings:castleoblivion26 - 4 Cody Wants Out... - 11 sabre14 - 12 bboat11 - 14 CoJoFan - 15 .indulgecountry - 16 LBTrocks - 18 kw9461 - 19 tim - 21 gardyfan - 23 zack97 - 34 George Strait Junkie - 35 ClevelandRox - 42 Kanenrá:ke - 42 "It Wouldn't Hurt To Have Wings" was the second single off Mark Chesnutt's Wings album in December of 1995. It reached #4 on R&R in April of 1996. It was written by Jerry Foster, Roger Lavoie and Johnny Morris.
Really love the melody of this one and it's vocal arrangement. I don't hear this one get mentioned too much when discussing Mark's stellar 90's discography but it's always been a personal favorite. I couldn't fit into my top 10 however...

Wow! These reveals are starting to hurt a good bit now! I'm currently beginning to think my #1 is coming up soon! > Why wasn't there more support for "It Wouldn't Hurt to Have Wings"? I put together a mini list for '96 Country (super stoked to see what's gonna be in the RD for it) and forgot how great this was (amongst dozens of others ofc!). As far as what'll miss the top ten, I suspect "She Was" and maybe "Almost Goodbye"? Other than those, I can see any of these make the top ten here...

Somewhat surprised but glad to finally see “I Might Even Quit Lovin’ You” bow out first in the top 20 as that has long been one of my least favorite singles released during Mark’s career. It was especially disappointing back then given how strong of an album Thank God for Believers is overall.
“Ol’ Country” on the other hand has always been one of my favorite singles by Mark and this song in particular takes me back to a time when I was really discovering country music at an early age. My top 5 was already stacked otherwise this would’ve been there.
Here’s what I think might miss the top 10:
“Your Love Is a Miracle” “Almost Goodbye” “I Just Wanted You to Know” “Thank God for Believers” “She Was”
The only song I’m not sure about is “I’ll Think of Something” but I’m really hoping to see it make it in.

#15. "Thank God For Believers"
Total Points: 288 Average: 20.5 Year Released: July, 1997 Radio & Records Peak: #1 Billboard Peak: #2 Rankings:CoJoFan - 3 kw9461 - 3 Cody Wants Out... - 8 zack97 - 10 bboat11 - 13 sabre14 - 15 tim - 18 castleoblivion26 - 21 gardyfan - 21 Kanenrá:ke - 24 .indulgecountry - 29 ClevelandRox - 38 LBTrocks - 41 George Strait Junkie - 44 "Thank God For Believers" was the lead single of Mark Chesnutt's album of the same name in July of 1997. It peaked at #1 on R&R the first week of November. It was written by Mark Alan Springer, Roger Springer and Tim Johnson. The music video features singer-songwriter Ed Bruce, who charted six top 10 singles in the 1980's. Really strong song here and I think its lyrics are top notch. Same as always, great production and vocals from Chesnutt. CoJoFan and kw9461 lose a top 3 at #15.

#14. "Your Love Is A Miracle"
Total Points: 283 Average: 20.2 Year Released: July, 1991 Radio & Records Peak: #1 Billboard Peak: #3 Rankings:gardyfan - 1 ClevelandRox - 2 Cody Wants Out... - 4 CoJoFan - 7 tim - 10 sabre14 - 18 castleoblivion26 - 20 Kanenrá:ke - 21 zack97 - 25 bboat11 - 26 kw9461 - 31 .indulgecountry - 33 LBTrocks - 40 George Strait Junkie - 45 "Your Love Is A Miracle" was the fourth single off Mark Chesnutt's debut album, Too Cold at Home in July of 1991. It peaked at #1 on R&R and #3 on Billboard in September. It was written by Bill Kenner and Mark Wright. Another great song with a really simple instrumentation and easy-going production. I love the music video. Not what you would expect from the song but I really like when music videos take on a different theme of a song, as long as it isn't too crazy. Mark was so young in this video, too lol. gardyfan becomes the first person to lose their #1, at #14.

#13. "Old Flames Have New Names"
Total Points: 263 Average: 18.7 Year Released: February, 1992 Radio & Records Peak: #4 Billboard Peak: #5 Rankings:gardyfan - 9 George Strait Junkie - 9 sabre14 - 9 CoJoFan - 10 .indulgecountry - 13 Cody Wants Out... - 14 ClevelandRox - 14 LBTrocks - 14 tim - 16 castleoblivion26 - 25 kw9461 - 28 Kanenrá:ke - 29 zack97 - 33 bboat11 - 40 "Old Flames Have New Names" was the lead single off Mark Chesnutt's Longnecks & Short Stories album in February of 1992. It peaked at #4 on R&R in May. It was written by Bobby Braddock and Rafe VanHoy. The song was meant to emulate "All My Exes Live In Texas" by George Strait, with the original title "Old Flames With New Names."
This song has such a throwback sound. I always loved listening to this because its feel is so country lol. Its lyrics aren't amazing but I enjoy the funny side here. I'm a little surprised they went with this as the lead single though, after listening to the whole album.

#12. "Blame It On Texas"
Total Points: 254 Average: 18.1 Year Released: March, 1991 Radio & Records Peak: #1 Billboard Peak: #5 Rankings:Cody Wants Out... - 2 tim - 5 gardyfan - 6 .indulgecountry - 6 George Strait Junkie - 8 ClevelandRox - 9 sabre14 - 13 kw9461 - 20 CoJoFan - 21 castleoblivion26 - 23 bboat11 - 27 LBTrocks - 34 Kanenrá:ke - 36 zack97 - 44 "Blame It On Texas" was the third single off Mark Chesnutt's debut album, Too Cold at Home in March of 1991. It peaked at#1 on R&R and #5 on Billboard in May. It was written by Ronnie Rogers and Mark Wright. Rogers wrote "Dixieland Delight" and "Jukebox In My Mind" by Alabama.
I'm a little surprised this was somewhat polarizing. Six top 10's but also six had this outside the top 20 and three below the top 30. I think it's another great song by Chesnutt and one of his signature hits.

#11. "Almost Goodbye"
Total Points: 244 Average: 17.4 Year Released: August, 1993 Radio & Records Peak: #1 Billboard Peak: #1 Rankings:LBTrocks - 3 CoJoFan - 5 gardyfan - 5 tim - 8 kw9461 - 9 bboat11 - 10 castleoblivion26 - 18 ClevelandRox - 19 Kanenrá:ke - 19 sabre14 - 23 zack97 - 24 Cody Wants Out... - 25 .indulgecountry - 28 George Strait Junkie - 48 "Almost Goodbye" was the second single off Mark Chesnutt's album of the same name in August of 1993. It hit #1 in November. The song was written by Billy Livsey and Don Schlitz.
This song is interesting because I think it has a good melody and a good concept (I still like it a lot) but it had bit of a different sound than anything Mark had released to radio up to that point. The different and haunting production. It ends up finishing #11 here and just missing the top 10.

There’s something about “Thank God for Believers” that I have always liked from the first time I heard it but it is also one of those songs that takes on more significance later in life. I’m not really sure I fully understood or could connect with the subject matter of the song as a teenager other than I was already a Mark Chesnutt fan, but going back to listen to this now I can really appreciate it more. I’m glad sabre14 mentioned the music video for “Your Love Is a Miracle” because that has always been one reason why I love this song so much. This is one music video I can remember seeing quite a bit of on television back in the days of TNN as well as on CMT. I was hoping to see “Blame It On Texas” sneak inside the top 10 since it really is one of Mark’s signature songs and one that you can of course still hear on radio today down this way in the Lone Star State. Speaking of the top 10 I’m not sure what to expect other than I’d also agree that it’s “Brother Jukebox” or “Bubba Shot the Jukebox” for the win.

Pretty hard to argue with that top 10, though it's shame that Almost Goodbye couldn't sneak in there(maybe in place of I'll Think Of Something). The production is just so damn good on that one.
I gotta think it comes down to Bubba or Too Cold At Home, but the rest of the top 5 could really be any of those.

I am going to go out on a limb and predict that the top 2 SHOULD come down to "It's A Little Too Late" and "It Sure Is Monday". That is, if we are actually hoping for one of his best songs to win this rankdown The "Jukebox" songs are top 10-worthy, maybe even top 5-worthy. But NOT #1...

#10. "I'll Think Of Something"
Total Points: 235 Average: 16.7 Year Released: June, 1992 Radio & Records Peak: #1 Billboard Peak: #1 Rankings:ClevelandRox - 1 tim - 2 bboat11 - 7 gardyfan - 7 CoJoFan - 9 castleoblivion26 - 11 Cody Wants Out... - 15 Kanenrá:ke - 15 zack97 - 16 George Strait Junkie - 21 sabre14 - 21 kw9461 - 33 .indulgecountry - 38 LBTrocks - 39 "I'll Think Of Something" was the second single off Mark Chesnutt's Longnecks & Short Stories album in June of 1992. The song was originally released in 1974 by Hank Williams Jr., where it peaked at #7. It was written by Bill Rice and Jerry Foster.
This one's a grower. I remember not liking this that much as a teenager when I first remember hearing it but has grown on me over the years. I didn't put it in the top 20 because the competition was too great.

#9. "Gonna Get A Life"
Total Points: 213 Average: 15.2 Year Released: February, 1995 Radio & Records Peak: #1 Billboard Peak: #1 Rankings:.indulgecountry - 2 LBTrocks - 7 castleoblivion26 - 8 kw9461 - 11 sabre14 - 11 tim - 11 CoJoFan - 12 Cody Wants Out... - 12 gardyfan - 13 George Strait Junkie - 16 zack97 - 19 Kanenrá:ke - 20 ClevelandRox - 29 bboat11 - 42 "Gonna Get A Life" was released in February of 1995 as the third single off Mark Chesnutt's What a Way to Live album. It reached #1 in May. The song was written by singer-songwriter Jim Lauderdale and Frank Dycus.
Nice cajun flare to "Gonna Get A Life" and one that is just pure fun. I really enjoy songs that are upbeat, even if the song's lyrics are actually talking about a wrong in life. I always thought it was funny that Tim McGraw released his single titled, "All I Want Is A Life" less than a year later. Most of the ranks here were in the 7-20 range.

Total Points: 199 Average: 14.2 Year Released: February, 2002 Radio & Records Peak: #9 Billboard Peak: #11 Rankings:CoJoFan - 2 ClevelandRox - 3 George Strait Junkie - 4 Kanenrá:ke - 4 kw9461 - 8 zack97 - 8 bboat11 - 9 sabre14 - 10 castleoblivion26 - 14 Cody Wants Out... - 22 gardyfan - 26 tim - 26 LBTrocks - 27 .indulgecountry - 36 "She Was" was released as the lead single off Mark Chesnutt's self-titled album in February of 2002. It reached #9 on R&R and #11 on Billboard in September. It would be the only album Mark recorded for Columbia Nashville. The song was written by Jimmy Melton and Neal Coty. Coty's other co-writes include "Real" by James Wesley, "Playboys of the Southwestern World" by Blake Shelton and "Every Friday Afternoon" by Craig Morgan. He also had a record deal with Mercury Nashville.
Some great nostalgia here. I remember hearing this as a kid often on the radio. It was definitely Mark's biggest 2000's hit at radio.

#7. "I Just Wanted You To Know"
Total Points: 178 Average: 12.7 Year Released: November, 1993 Radio & Records Peak: #1 Billboard Peak: #1 Rankings: kw9461 - 1 sabre14 - 2 CoJoFan - 4 zack97 - 6 castleoblivion26 - 7 ClevelandRox - 8 gardyfan - 11 .indulgecountry - 12 bboat11 - 15 George Strait Junkie - 15 Cody Wants Out... - 18 tim - 19 Kanenrá:ke - 30 LBTrocks - 30 "I Just Wanted You To Know" was the third single off Mark Chesnutt's Almost Goodbye album in November of 1993. It reached #1 in February of 1994. The song was written by Tim Mensy and Gary Harrison; both of whom are accomplished songwriters in Nashville during the 70's-2000's.
This song is fantastic. Even though it went #1, I always thought it never got enough credit among Chesnutt's biggest radio hits. The song's lyrics/subject are honest and I think a lot of people can relate to it, whether they like to admit it or not. The melody is superb and so is the production. I'm glad it made the top 7 here and some others here love it as well.

#6. "It's A Little Too Late"
Total Points: 165 Average: 11.7 Year Released: September, 1996 Radio & Records Peak: #1 Billboard Peak: #1 Rankings:bboat11 - 1 castleoblivion26 - 3 Cody Wants Out... - 3 LBTrocks - 4 sabre14 - 7 tim - 9 kw9461 - 10 ClevelandRox - 11 .indulgecountry - 11 zack97 - 15 George Strait Junkie - 19 gardyfan - 22 CoJoFan - 23 Kanenrá:ke - 27 "It's A Little Too Late" was the first single off Mark Chesnutt's Greatest Hits album in September of 1996. It reached #1 in January of 1997. The song was written by Chesnutt, Roger Springer, and Slugger Morrissette.
This was one of the popular songs that my station WYRK used to play back in the early-to-mid-2000's. The branded the station as today's hits and all-time favorites, so they would play 2 songs ever hour from the 80's or 90's and this was always played. Great melody and instrumentation. Terrific lyrics too that make me laugh and once again, a subject that should be dark and gloomy but it's presented in a upbeat, light-hearted way.

Every song to go in the last 5-10 have been painful Mark has always been a favorite, probably in my top 5 all time. Never came up here that much so I've only seen him 2, well 3 times but that was a show with Collin Raye and Sammy Kershaw that was only a few songs from each. This was the hardest rankdown I've done.
"Brother Jukebox" "Bubba Shot The Jukebox" "Goin' Through The Big D" "Too Cold At Home" "It Sure Is Monday"
But I can see these 5 in any order.
