As crazy as this song is performing I wonder if they have another song on the album that could follow this and do well. The performance of this single is just unbelievable. Nobody saw this coming.

Right? It's almost as if radio programmers have realized that their listeners want to hear some real country on their stations...or something...

If Every Little Honky Tonk Bar tops the chart, not only does it becomes George Strait's 87th top ten and 45th chart topper, but it will give him the longest span of #1 hits. Thirty-seven years between Fool Hearted Memory (1982) to Bar (2019). That would drop Dolly Parton to second place: Joshua in 1971 to When I Get Where I'm Going with Brad Paisley in 2006.

Up 2 more spots to #28 in only 6 days! ”Burning Man” is going recurrent later today, so George should move up and debut at #27 on Mediabase this week. We won’t know for 100% for sure until the final update comes in tonight. It’s definitely the second highest debut single at radio of his career though.

I'm optimistic about this great tune's chances for success if for no other reason than the fact that several non-IHM stations added it at once including several format heavyweights; got my fingers crossed.

GS is doing a huge concert in Houston at the end of March so I’d expect both the country stations there to keep playing this in heavy rotation atleast until then.

Mediabase did remove Dierks' tune today and sent it to recurentland so King George will debut at #27 on CT40 this weekend, which is downright wonderful, with another classic of his very likely to be played immediately afterward.

Lol, Texas stations on the Mediabase panel made up for over 2.5 million in audience for George this week, with Houston's heavy hitters KKBQ and KILT leading the way with 82 combined spins and nearly 1.5 million in audience. "Every Little Honky Tonk Bar" got nearly 12.0 million in MB audience this week.
Add in the iHeartMedia debut that started early last week and you get the second highest debut at radio in George's career lol.

I sure hope George gets another #1! Both George and Reba deserve at least one more run at the top with their new projects.

Yes, and they seem totally I want to make it a #1 on Texas radio at least (which it probably does do).

I'm guessing this will drop to around #40 after his 8th day on the chart (that's just a guess). It's still a strong start, and it's gaining nicely every day this week, even after the first initial push. This might be something that hangs around for a long time and peaks this summer.

A lot of songs get debuts like this and then plummet down the charts only to hang around and struggle to ever come close to the lofty start they received, so I'm not super optimistic this song will avoid that trajectory and turn into a big smash. The fact that it had such a strong debut at all is great, but I would not be surprised if the rest of its run mirrored songs like "Summer Fever," "Bring It on Over," "Still the Same," or "Bucked Off," to name a few recent examples. I'd love to be proven wrong and for it to be a hit of course, but I don't think its debut is exactly an indication that country radio is fully behind turning this one into a big hit and continuing to keep its airplay up. Glad it's getting the airplay it currently is though and I'm happy to have heard it several times on the radio already. Looking forward to the full album.

Glad it's getting the airplay it currently is though and I'm happy to have heard it several times on the radio already. Looking forward to the full album. I initially had this concern, but the daily gains that this has pulled since the hourly deal (consistently +100 spins and +900k audience) have given me hope that this isn't just a fluke. It's #41 on the HITS building chart this morning, whereas your examples basically fell off the chart after day 8. The big concern for me now is the way it's selling, as it's down to #410 on iTunes as of this morning. To the best of my knowledge, this was never on Best of the Week on iTunes strangely and has suffered a bit because of that. "God and Country Music" was, however, and it reached the top 15. They've done a great job at promoting this, I just don't want this one mistake to be the one that prevents radio from moving it higher.

I think the main difference between this song and say the debuts that you are mentioning, are the gains afterwards during the debut week. All the songs you mentioned had rather soft gains during the iHeartMedia debut week, hence a huge fall once the big debut was taken out of the weekly spins. Meanwhile George Strait has the biggest amount of spins gained in a single day today, and has gained about 100 spins a day since the big debur, which is very impressive and finally this song already having 39 Mediabase adds on the add board for this week, and we still have over 24 more hours til we see how many radio adds this gets. So radio definitely does seem pretty on board with it, from my perspective. Lol @ me and lady𝓐fan posting at the same time.

The only reason I have hope is that unlike the songs you mentioned, George is building 100+ spins per day after the debut day and between 0.7-1.0m in audience per day. The songs you listed dropped off to around +30 / .3 per day which tells me stations were hesitant to play the new song which seems different here. I'm not sure what MCA is doing with radio stations for this song (initial week push?), but it just seems different to me. If the spin gains are even or negative in the 9th/10th/11th day, then it's likely dead in the water. If it continues to build, George might have a hit on his hands. edit: I apparently also posted at the same time

Well it hasn't had its hangover yet and lost any audience yet from looking at the Kworb.net update for today, so it remains to be seen how far it falls down and how radio treats it going forward. The whole thing is an unusual situation so it's not like we can really judge how this will do by past experiences because all previous signs pointed to George Strait never having a hit again on radio, let alone getting a splashy debut with a new single, so I'm all for it turning into a hit, but I can't help but keep in mind that oftentimes radio is ambitious about playing a new song out of the gate and then dials the airplay back only to never let it match/exceed where it initially began. We'll see what happens.

George drops from #27 to #30 in this morning's update (8th day). That's not nearly as bad as I was personally expecting which means that radio is playing this song at a decent clip. We'll have to see if that continues the rest of this week and into the next few. I'm cautiously optimistic.

He will drop more again tomorrow as he still had hour by hour airplay last Tuesday for a part of the day.

Like rbundy1987 said, George will see a big drop tomorrow as well, bigger than the drop in spins he saw today. "Every Little Honky Tonk Bar" was played hourly starting last Monday at 3pm EST when it went to radio but also was spun hourly on iHeartMedia stations last Tuesday morning through the afternoon. He will see an 8th and 9th day big negative update unfortunately.

How bad did McGraw drop with “Neon Church” after his debut? Didn’t it debut in the top 20-25? Anyways I have no clue how this song will perform in the weeks to come but my thought was that it was going to have a run similar to “Neon Church”. I’d be surprised if this does ever make it to the top 10. Surprised and ecstatic both I should say.

This is showing 93 adds on impact day from Hits Daily Double.
We’ll see if the final number in the Mediabase adds email has one or two more added in there but this got over 90 adds on impact day.

So to the experts who follow the charts what do you guys think of this song rebounding in a couple of days and starting to climb back to the top? Has this song peaked?

Country Airplay: #20 (debut) Country Songs: #36 (debut)
I have little expectation this'll make the Hot 100, but if Garth Brooks can do it, why not Strait?

George has the benefit of having his songs on iTunes and streaming services though. That gives him a huge advantage, especially since he sells pretty well in general anyway (not sure what's happening this this single, though).

George has the benefit of having his songs on iTunes and streaming services though. That gives him a huge advantage, especially since he sells pretty well in general anyway (not sure what's happening this this single, though). Both album version and single version of the song (doesn't really have any differences) are available to download for now, which may diverge some of the sales. And George seems more likely to be album-driven artist so more people will pre-order the whole album instead of buying individual songs (album is #1 in itunes country pre-order). Lastly, it was released on last Monday so technically it is on second week of sales now. I expect an ACM Awards performance and if radio is still strong at that time, will make this song on Hot 100. Or even better, the week before ACM Awards (album release week) might do the trick as the sales and streaming will increase considerably.
