Andrea Bocelli and Mateo Bocelli deserve all the recognition with Fall on Me. Hands down the best song of the year IMO. It's a shame that it won't break into a general field -- although it should.
With that said though, based on who actually has support song-wise, I would love for Bad Guy and Señorita to divide the Song / Record awards.

Why are we praising that HDD article? All they did was list all the contenders. They didn't make any real predictions.

I see a lot of people saying Maren will be the Kacey of this year, but I just can't see it. Kacey got universal acclaim, whereas Maren was far more mixed. I really only see Maren getting the four-country categories, but only leaving away with maybe one of them as a win.

also it just occur to me that billie will 100% come to the ceremony wearing oversized hoodie and baggy ass pants. will be fun seeing her in all the worst dressed lists

In no way were Mariah's reviews "far more" mixed, but I agree a parallel to Kacey doesn't make sense.

I don't think Maren is this year's Kacey but I feel like the competition isn't stiff enough that she couldn't sneak in as the country representative into some of the main categories. I'd be surprised to see her in for Album but I could see her maybe get a Song or Record nom maybe.

On Metacritic Maren has a 66, whereas Kacey has an 89 and received universal acclaim from every single publication. Maren is more of a ‘meh’ - she may sneak in, but I feel that there are other country artists who released superior albums that would sneak in to the General category over Maren.

Yeah, I love Maren but GIRL didn't get anywhere near the same amount of acclaim as Golden Hour did last year.
Golden Hour topped both Village Voice's Pazz-N-Jop Poll and Metacritic's Best of 2018: Music Critic Top Ten Lists, both which compile 'best of the year' lists from all top music critics. On the latter, Golden Hour appeared on 62 lists (Being top 2 on 17 of them). She had a huge critical buzz that really helped her on a really crowed category last year.
Having said that, Maren has much weaker competition this year and I would LOVE to see her getting nominated for AotY

metacritic is not everything and none of them 14 critics are on committee or voting. we always saw thsoe meh 50~60 metacritic albums in aoty for many reasons. (commercial success or genre representation)

I think Billie will fare well, but Lizzo is a major player this year (against Billie across the board), as is Ariana. I don’t think BNA is hers to lose at all. If anything, this year’s BNA category is the most competitive it’s been in YEARS.

Unlikely, but I’d be here for Lana taking it, too. Has she ever gotten any Grammy love? I don’t recall her winning anything.

Four if you count the AOTY nom for Beauty Behind the Madness (which she was featured on). -Pop Vocal Album for Paradise -Song Written for Visual Media for Young and Beautiful -Pop Vocal Album for Lust for Life

Thank you for the breakdown. Judging by this, perhaps a Pop Vocal Album nod is all but certain, but she deserves general field recognition. An AOTY nod would be incredible.

Rolling Stone was on crack when they wrote that - they don't even realize GF has more than 5 nominees IT makes perfect sense for best pop vocal

Do y'all think OTR can leave without anything? The audience will be frustrated if the music they listened to all year round is not awarded.

Do y'all think OTR can leave without anything? The audience will be frustrated if the music they listened to all year round is not awarded. It’s happened in 2016 and 2017 where the most popular song went home empty handed. It can happen again. To be fair, assuming you're going by the year-end #1, the Billboard calendar doesn't line up with the Grammys' nomination periods (and for that matter doesn't always line up with what is the perceived 'most popular' song of the year). Take 2017, for example. Shape of You was the year-end #1, Despacito #2. In 2016 Love Yourself was the year-end #1 but if you took a poll on whether Love Yourself or Hello was a bigger hit, I bet most people would say Hello, despite it finishing the year at #9. With that said I do get what you're saying. The Grammys does tend to play favorites and avoid rewarding 'novelty' smashes like Despacito and Blurred Lines. The question is, will voters see OTR as a novelty? This year's biggest hits came mostly from newcomers; Ariana, with all of one win under her belt, is the closest thing we have to a major contender who is also a voter 'favorite.' So I don't know just yet if I see OTR being entirely snubbed. I'd have to see how the nominations all pan out.
