NOOOOOOOOO!
"Last Name" is seriously amazing. Not surprised to see some low numbers for it, I mean this is Pulse lol, but it's a total jam on every level.

#36. Zac Brown Band - "Chicken Fried"
Total Points: 968 Average: 50.9 Year Released: June 16th, 2008 Mediabase Peak: #1 Billboard Peak: #1 Rankings: someguy - 4 tim - 14 bboat11 - 15 Cody Wants Out... - 16 rgreen0625 - 18 recordyear - 20 zaclord 🌈 - 26 kw9461 - 28 austin - 33 George Strait Junkie - 41 ClevelandRox - 43 CoJoFan - 59 toomuchboy - 60 sabre14 - 67 Kanenrá:ke - 76 raylatch98 - 98 .indulgecountry - 112 castleoblivion26 - 117 LBTrocks - 121 Following: bigfan101 carriefan15 "Chicken Fried" was released as the debut single off their album, The Foundation in June of 2008. It reached #1 the week of Thanksgiving in November. The single was a joint venture between labels, Atlantic, Hone Grown and Big Picture, with Live Nation credited when it first charted.
The song was recorded in 2003 by Zac but then cut by The Lost Trailers in 2005 when they signed with Sony. Zac Brown allowed them to because he was under the impression it would'n't be a single. Head of Sony Nashville, Joe Galante promised Zac Brown it wouldn't be a single but released it anyway as the Lost Trailers debut single for BNA in March of 2006. Zac Brown immediately got a lawyer and the song was pulled from radio after peaking at #52, in favor of "Call Me Crazy", which peaked at #41 on R&R for The Lost Trailers that June. Zac Brown was worried he would get a bad rap in Nashville going head to head with Galante but two years later he was able to record with Keith Stegall and "Chicken Fried" was re-recorded and released. Ironically, The Lost Trailers got their breakout hit the same year Zac got his lol. Obviously, Zac's has the more prosperous career.
I actually have The Lost Trailers version of "Chicken Fried" and it's very good. Zac's is slightly better but I like the Trailers take on it. This is a fine song but omg has it ever been overplayed lol.

The only reveal that really has me shaking my head is "She Never Cried In Front Of Me"... That is such an incredible song! I consider it to be one of Toby's best vocal performances, and it also stands out as a very different song from him that came out at a literal perfect time because his usual sound was starting to become somewhat stale. I was so glad it became a huge hit! I didn't necessarily anticipate putting it as high as #2, but I have no regrets. It makes me wonder how high I would rank it in a Toby Keith singles rankdown...

I love Michael Buble's "Home." Blake's cover is cruel and unnecessary punishment.
"She Never Cried in Front of Me" surprised me at the time it was released. I thought TK only put out garbage at that point of his career. He's always been good at ballads. Jason Aldean's another one I liked early on in his career and not so much now. I'm a little surprised "Relentless" is out already, although I didn't expect top 20 or anything.
I have never liked "Last Name." Strange her worst single came from, imo, her best album. It and "Crazy Dreams" are the only songs I don't like from Carnival Ride.

There should be a *gap* between 45devour's and zaclord's ranks for Better As A Memory. It is the best Kenny Chesney song I heard from these rankdown.
Hurt to see You Can't Let Go and This Is Me You're Talking To eliminated. Both great vocalists in this rankdown.
Not feeling Last Name as I think early Carrie oversings a lot including this one.
Quite a male-dominated list for Top 35, but the songs from women are quite strong and there should be a few in Top 10.

It peaked at #2 in November. It was written by Aimee Mayo, Bill Luther and Tom Douglas.
This was the point in time I thought Curb would move on to new music. Tim already had recorded songs for his next album, that included "Southern Voice" and "You Had To Be There" but Curb threw a curveball and promoted singles off this album for another 9 months ("Nothin' To Die For"). Tim sung his next album's songs on tour that summer and was not happy about Let It Go's continued promotion. I like "Let It Go" and thought it had a shot to be a single at some point but c'mon, "Train #10" and "Between the River and Me" please...

For me it’s Jimmy Wayne I’m surprised has lasted this long, I didn’t think it’d be tabled necessarily but I was thinking mid 50’s.

Small Town Southern Man and All-American girl can go. I also am surprised at Eric Church as the songs such a flop and not liked by many.

"Anything Goes" has stuck with me all these years later. Such a great song. I don't think I know anything else by him either, lol.
I'm surprised "In Color" survived this far.

I probably overranked “All I Want to Do” a tad bit but I find the song to be a bit infectious and always end up singing along with it.
And then there’s “You Still Own Me” which I came in with the lowest ranking for…I literally can’t stand the voice of the lead vocalist for Emerson Drive and have never been able to get past that. I just can’t get into these guys period.
Glad to see “Better As A Memory” make into the top half as the song remains one of my favorites from 2008 and one of my all time favorite songs by Kenny Chesney. I put this song on from time to time and have always found the lyrics relatable.
I all but forgot that “She Never Cried In Front of Me” made it to #1 and can’t say I remember hearing the song much locally back then. That said it’s a great song overall and a strong delivery from Toby.
“Home” is another song that I’m happy see make the top half and while it is a tad overplayed this is another song that I can very much relate to.
I think I was a bit too nice with my ranking for “Last Name” because I’ve never really cared for the song much and tbh it’s always been an instant station changer for me whenever it comes on the radio.
I’m a bit surprised to see “Chicken Fried” make it as far as it did and while this is another song that is overplayed from 2008 I still enjoy it and always sing along with it.

I am disappointed to see "Anything Goes" last this long. Randy has a fantastic voice, but this particular song has very few memorable qualities. Also Kanenrá:ke if you end up being the one reason George Strait doesn't make the top 10 with either of his songs, I am going to cancel you.

Probably unpopular opinion but I don't enjoy Johnny and June at all. Also Josh Gracin, Rascal Flatts and one of Gary Allan's songs need to go.

With such an eclectic remaining list, I could see something this ending up with a surprise winner like the year that "Leave The Pieces" won. Pleased that I still have 7 of my top 10 left, and 10 of my top 15.
Jimmy Wayne still being alive is kind of puzzling, guessing it just wasn't very polarizing. Also surprised that "Learning How To Bend" is still around - I'm a huge Gary fan but that isn't one of his stronger offerings. Happy to see that the better Ashton Shepherd song is still alive. The vocal arrangement on "Takin' Off This Pain" is just too harsh for me (her twang is just too much), but "Sounds So Good" is just delightful.
