And 10 recurrent/gold extras. Nice to hear new music instead of just oldies.

BTW the Breakout excess has also extended to this weekend's Hot AC show which played four Breakouts (one On The Verge) though that's still two fewer Breakouts than this show.
Something tells me that at least four Breakouts will be a regular thing for both shows from this point forward.
But of course nobody misses Two-For-One. Right, Ryan? *sarcasm*

I mean, if you all hate it so much you could....not listen to it? I donβt hate breakouts but wtf. I mean there not bad as you said previously but there are so much itβs just stupid. They should play a maximum of four as not all four will debut so not all 6 will clearly and they can clearly tell which weβll debut and what wonβt via the Mediabase charts.

Not every song that sits just below the Top 40 will make it. Just like sometimes songs peak at #11 and never enter the Top 10.

^You're right, it doesn't matter. Some people will listen to the show only to complain. If I listed the top 1,000 problems in my life right now, "AT40 playing too many songs" would not be on the list.

It bothers me when things are out of order. Putting things into AT40 that don't belong there makes it out of order. If everything was like that, the world would be in chaos. AT40 is meant to be a countdown of the top 40 records of the week. Extras that are headed for the top 40 can also be there (it should be called "bubbling under"), but interviews with people that have nothing to do with the top 40 music, and music that is not of the present time does not belong there. Top 40 records of the week means this week, not 4 years ago. You can always hear them on radio stations, but I believe AT40 is reserved for current music only.

exactly.. 6 breakouts? 1 debut??? Iβm sorry a breakout should only be played once It's actually 2 debuts ("La La Land" and "Boy With Luv"). And my issue with Breakouts (since I've complained about their excessive use time and time again) is that more than three Breakouts is too many. Sometimes there'll be a Breakout that winds up not debuting and that's with three Breskout/Verge songs so anytime AT40 attempts four (or more), I want to be under the assumption that they're banking on a big debut week (more than three debuts) soon. Of course, we have Shawn Mendes and Sheeran/Bieber yet to come which will make it even more difficult for all of this week's Breakouts to debut (I want to think either of "Walk Me Home" or "So Close" will wind up failing to debut).

I agree. It should only be called a "breakout" if it seems definite that it will reach the top 40. The other extras should be called "bubbling under", and must be current music only.

They probably canβt use βbubbling underβ because itβs a Billboard term. If itβs really just an issue of semantics, itβs really not that big a deal.

I have little hope for So Close.

Here's the way I see the upcoming AT40 debuts:
MAY 19: ME! #10 Con Calma #30
MAY 26: If I Can't Have You #40 All My Friends #37 Bad Guy #35
JUN 2: I Don't Care #38 Juice #39

If they have so much extra time to fill, why don't they just make the show shorter in time? If they did only what they are supposed to do, the show could easily be fit into 3 hours. Or maybe 3 1/2 hours if they need to do so many commercials. It doesn't have to be 4 hours, does it?

Advertisers and contracts. They canβt just reduce the time of the show.

BTW U.S. affiliates (including WFLZ, KIIS and Z100) aired all six of the Breakouts this past weekend.

Really! I expected them to drop one. My station started at 7:45 and art 10:45 my actual station played songs til 11 because they started ahead of time.

Breakouts should be played once because if you break out itβs a one shot deal. It he wants to fill a few minutes then bring back the original show long distance dedication and maybe a segment for a number one played the current week on a different year. What happened to AT40βs 2 for one 1. It ran so well on the show.

Seacrest hated it because his opinion is the only one that matters.

In other news, Taylor should see a very high debut next week. I wonder if "ME!" will debut in the Top 10 or fall a bit short.
