I don’t really see the problem with his tweet other than a bunch of people jumping on it and having heated reactions. A lot more people than you’ll ever hear about feel the same thing he expressed. Oh we know more people feel the same way; they’re voting for Trump and ok with locking kids in cages. This is exactly what I mean about people jumping on something so quick. In our society today, you have to be accepting of every culture and belief and show you enjoy it or you’re labeled as racist or a bigot. Just because you don’t always want to be bombarded with other cultures doesn’t mean you’re racist. Everything always has to turn into a race thing. If you didn’t enjoy the halftime show it’s automaticaly because you were racist against the Latino ladies.

In our society today, you have to be accepting of every culture and belief. Yes, exactly. Just because you don’t always want to be bombarded with other cultures doesn’t mean you’re racist. That's two different things. You still have to respect it, even though you're not willing to be "bombarded" with it. And as Hailey Steele said on Twitter:

If you didn’t enjoy the halftime show it’s automaticaly because you were racist against the Latino ladies. You weren't 'bombarded' with shit. If seeing Latina women perform a halftime show that included brief use of the Spanish language in like a collective 2 or 3 minutes of the whole performance was troublesome for you or anyone, then you didn't have to watch it. Just like members of the Latin communities weren't forced to watch Maroon 5 or Justin Timberlake give mediocre performances in the last couple years. Riley's comment was a crude joke that he should've kept to himself, because if he actually wanted a translation for what little Spanish was performed, he had Google at his fingertips to look it up for him. It's not like his hillbilly fanbase was going to volunteer to translate for him after his Twitter request.

Anyways, to move onto a new topic I am interested when we get a full debut album from Riley Green as this song is still connecting very well. Kind of shocked there hasn't been an album announcement.

Do you ever think about how those other cultures are constantly forced to see white culture, white history, white privilege, etc?

So my two cents is that the tweet could've been kept in the drafts and forgotten about. And as indulge has mentioned, Google Translate is a thing and if he really wanted to know what they were saying all he had to do was go there and look it up. And about being "bombarded" by different cultures: I guess now you know, country11, how people from those different cultures may or may not feel (I wouldn't know for sure, I can't speak for them) when the main character representation in TV shows and such (and this has of course gotten better in recent years but imo could still use some progress) is white, white, white. Besides, the halftime show was a total of what, 13, 17 minutes? Please.

Also, I guess Jason Isbell is cancelled. SMH. I dunno, I took Jason's tweet to be making fun of the hyper-religious guy who plans to sue the NFL for endangering his eternal soul with the halftime show... Lol. Unless there's more than just what was posted at the top of this page?

Yeah there's no way Jason's comment was meant in seriousness. He was definitely making fun of the Christian wackjob, lmao.

Yea anyone that follows Jason on Twitter knows that he is no fan of Trump or his politics and his tweet was definitely made in jest. Also, back during the release of his last album The Nashville Sound Jason expanded on his song "White Man's World" and his thoughts on Trump getting elected: “When something like this happens, when somebody is put on this particular pedestal that Trump has been put upon — partially by Americans, partially by the process — it’s easy to look at it and say we’re failing, and that this movement of compassion is losing to people who are so afraid it makes them selfish. It’s very easy to say that and think that. I think we may have gone down a couple of rungs on a ladder we’ve already climbed a long, long way on.”

I still don’t believe he is racist, but I wonder about the timing of this Instagram post. I wonder if it was a subtle way to “prove” he’s not racist. http://instagram.com/p/B8zH0NPh-L8

baltized it's possible that this was something he had in mind when posting it, but he also didn't say anything that could be seen as negative towards black people in his Tweets that came under fire so it's not really a direct comparison: his "joke" during the Super Bowl performance was based on language and a dig at people of Hispanic descent.

It's weird that Hispanic/Latino isn't a race (they tend to be mostly Spanish), and they often look not much different from Southern Europeans like the Spanish or Italians, but they're treated as a race.
But yeah, I'd argue Green's issue was more surrounding language and possibly towards people from associated with being Hispanic.

As a casual country music fan, I find this song is really a "paint-by-numbers" kind of track. Line about girls, check. Line about beer, check. Line about trucks, check. Line dissing "the man", check.
It just seems like every country cliche piled on top of one another. And I've absolutely been known to enjoy songs featuring many of these elements, but they all feel very shoehorned into this track.

But yeah, I'd argue Green's issue was more surrounding language and possibly towards people from associated with being Hispanic. I'm not even totally sure where to start with this: a) Hispanic and Latino are not synonyms. Hispanic refers to people who speak Spanish, while people who are Latino/a are from Latin America. So no one from Europe is Latino/a, but it does include people from Haiti and Brazil. While people from southern Europe (which would include Italy, Greece, and Portugal) aren't necessarily Hispanic, but people from Mexico are. b) No people who are Hispanic aren't mostly Spanish. Spain is the 30th most populous country in the world. behind other Spanish speaking countries (i.e. Mexico). In the United States most people who are Hispanic (60%) are of Mexican decent. c) It's not a race, because it incorporates people from a variety of different nationalities around the world, and isn't based on a place of origin. Additionally, while Latin American might have been closer to a race due to colonization and the decimation of the native population, most people who currently live in the area are a mixture of races. d) people from Spain, and the rest of Southern Europe, are Caucasian (White). That is their race.

At the risk of derailing this thread further, I'd like to say that you can't really make generalizations about such a large (and diverse) group of people. Hispanic/Latino people have varying amounts of Spanish or Portuguese (white), indigenous, and African lineage, and that's reflected in the variety of skin color in millions of people (including my own family).

With "Dive Bar" now in freefall and "We Back" pretty much set in stone of when it is gonna push (either next week or the week after) it appears country radio is beginning to let this song stall out as Riley Green lost his bullet on Mediabase and got passed by Gabby Barrett, with the songs below "I Wish Grandpas Never Died" (singles from Carly Pearce/Lee Brice, Thomas Rhett/Jon Pardi, and Morgan Wallen) not too far behind.
I do think the label is gonna push for a Top 10 peak, but with how many mammoth singles are around Riley Green, I can easily see this single getting quickly lost in the Top 10 due to poor callout scores

Sorry for the double post
Looks like "I Wish Grandpas Never Died" has just about reached the end of the road as this song lost over 600k in audience on Billboard and has spent it's second straight week of losing it's bullet on Mediabase.

WBEE played Riley Green’s “Different Round Here” as its music meeting song yesterday, so it’s entirely possible they are moving on from “I Wish Grandpas Never Died”.

I'm inclined to feel that this terrific song will somehow reach the top 10 within the next 3-4 weeks, at least at Mediabase, although I expect his bullet tomorrow will be very small.

This suffered a massive loss of almost 300 spins today and 3/4 a million in audience, so I think the label has thrown in the towel.

Yeah I saw that too when I woke up so I'm disappointed that he couldn't at least reach the top ten, but that's the way it goes sometimes.

Probably due to the fact this song is very popular is why their releasing the CD. This song and the song Numbers On The Cars are both stellar songs in my opinion. Jake Owen and Chris Lane’s latest albums also haven’t gotten physical releases either. I do have a physical copy of Jake’s as I preordered the CD from his website.

Jake and Chris both eventually sold them on CD on their websites. I got burned on the Jake one by getting a preorder package. Didn't need the extra stuff and then it was available as just a CD 2 days after I emailed them and they said it would not be released as a CD only.
