The Hu are a Mongolian metal band and they sound exactly how you imagine a band from Mongolia. This is a new version by a song that was released in 2018 and it has at least 50 spins on Active.

Eleven Seven push. I'm not feeling this one at all, but I want to recognize the guy singing in English. Anyone?

Doc, the vocalist is Danny Case from the band From Ashes To New.
The Hu have quite the emerging international following. Their distinctive traditional instruments sound is obviously part of their appeal. I like the original version of this song, so it's interesting to hear this updating of it that's clearly aimed at getting the band rock radio play in the states (Octane jumped on the song the day it dropped). It surprisingly works (although the original obviously flows better), thanks in part to Case's Chester Bennington-like vocals. Fun track. I've already downloaded it.
Due to the song's novelty appeal, I wouldn't be surprised to see this gain traction with programmers.

I don't even know what the fuck to say about this song. I feel like I'm on a pirate ship listening to Rammstein or something.

This is at least more interesting than most of the chart rn. FAtN ruins the song, but I understand why they're pushing this remix.

The Hu are awesome, and I love this song, but I'm gonna need From Ashes To New out of this. They are SO out of place in this.

History tends to repeat in cycles, and 20 years from when Rammstein unexpectedly charted with "Du Hast", here we have another foreign band randomly showing up on the rock charts, singing in a tongue most Americans do not understand.
Despite their viral popularity there was no way they were going to get a radio hit unless they did this. Eleven Seven, wisely, chose to keep the most important parts of the original song intact for this remix. The traditional instruments are still front and center, the throat singing is still prominent. The From Ashes to New singer and guitarist just add a little bit of extra edge and polish to the original. The new English lyrics sung by Danny Case also support the original lyrics quite well, no contradictions to be found. While I do think the original is better, this new version is respectful to the original and a worthy listen in its own right, and probably a better addition for jogging and workout playlists.
Sadly, despite a collaboration between a Mongolian metal band and an American nu-metal revivalist band being about as alternative as you can get, this will have to settle for an attempt to dominate Active. I think it has a chance to peak around where "Du Hast" did, which was 20th IIRC. I also suspect it will stick around as long as "Du Hast" has as a recurrent on Active radio.
2019. What a year.

I really like this & am very impressed with this band. They also have another interesting song called "Wolf Totem" that's an international hit worth listening to.

The fact that this is charting at all, even with an American-ified remix, is just so cool.
The original is so, so interesting. I don't really have a desire to listen to the remix right now, but I really enjoy the original.

Sorry, I saw the rhymes in the bands and the name of the song and decided to take a chance on being funny. I'll seriously give this one a shot between rankdowns.

I mean. In comparison to most of the dated post grunge cliches that Active thrives on I'd hardly call this *cheesy*, it's definitely one of the more unique things charting now. But uh I'd hardly say I like it.
I don't know, I respect the uniqueness of this enough, but it's just too out there. They're definitely going for a variety of influences but I wouldn't say they flow together all that well. It's just a weird fluke hit I feel. I'd rather listen to Fire from the Gods or Any Given Sin, and that's not saying much

Am I the only one that this song sounds cheesy to? I listened to the FATN version, and, honestly, I think the FATN parts are cheesy. It doesn't destroy the song or anything, but it does weaken it somewhat. The original, on the other hand, continues to grow on me.

I did not expect this to get this far. Wow. Is this the highest a song predominantly sung in a foreign language has climbed to the top of the rock chart?
