Hahaha wait I had Mandy as one of my higher two of the top 4. Either way, your top 10 ranking helped Mandy secure her finish so we value your patronage. <3 *kii*

"The third single from Brandy's fourth album was the title track 'Afrodisiac', which did not chart in the US following the underperformance of the two preceding singles. The song did however make the top 40 in Australia and almost made the top 10 in the UK, its biggest market. I got into this song through remixes I believe, because I'd enjoyed a few of her other singles and I decided to chase down a remix of this song I'd heard about that was supposedly rare/unreleased. This one, I'm not all that surprised to see it perform strongly as Brandy is easily one of the most recognizable names on this list."#LisaRinna 1Albie 2 newpower 2 @antigonerising 3Ty 4 @trilogy 5 willapted33 6 Willow Rinadoobee Breakfast 7 SHOOTER 7 Red 11 Adrian C. π 12 π

This makes me really want to go check out Afrodisiac the album. This probably should have been in my top ten, but I just had to give Hilary an extra boost. 1 vs. 2 Looking forward to the bottom tens. :sip2:

"This was the second single from Jamiroquai's fifth studio album 'A Funk Odyssey', and one of multiple singles from the early 2000's that I remember hearing a lot on the radio here. While this is not their biggest hit of the era it is probably my favourite and despite my middling ranking it does pique my nostalgia. This song (as was #1) was pretty much a contender from the word 'go' based both on in-thread reactions to the song list and from the initial rankings that came in. I wasn't expecting it to wind up being such a fierce and drawn-out battle for the top spot, nor did I see it being this close in the end but Jamiroquai put in a valiant effort in almost winning despite not having a single top ranking."@trilogy 2willapted33 2Red 2maine 2Juan Carlos 2#LisaRinna 3 singingrulebritannia 3 @antigonerising 4 newpower 5 Willow Rinadoobee Breakfast 5 Albie 6 Exclusive 7 Sambalada 9 SHOOTER 11 samoπ¦ 11 alexcuse 15 π

My mind can't take all of these bottom tens, especially on "We Need a Resolution". Three bottom tens?! One is harsh. "We Need a Resolution" was my #1 from the very beginning, but it's hard to go wrong with Jamiroquai, either. I probably would have ranked half of Jamiroquai's discography in the top three here. Well, we got to the end, Az Paynter, and, as far as I can tell, this thread didn't implode, so mission accomplished. (And great rankdown hosted, ofc)

I said my #1 song was the one song that I could not conceive why anyone would rank it bottom 10, but I take that back, I feel the same way about Jamiroquai and am rather surprised to see it. Maybe even more so for him than for Aaliyah.
I'll be honest, a lot of this rankdown sounds very much like the 2000s that spawned it; despite enjoying a good bit of it, I have to concede that my 1, 3, and 4 are the only three songs that I feel truly aged well. WNAR still feels so timeless, almost as if Timbaland literally constructed it out of matter from the universe. And I am really pleasantly surprised to see Afrodisiac make the top 3! I was not sure how Brandy would fare here; despite she herself being one of the more recognizable singers here, that album underperformed and was underrated back in the day, and the title track wasn't a single here in the US. But this is another Timbo production that just won't age. At his prime he was always ten steps ahead and waiting on the rest of us to catch up.
YGMS sounds timeless for almost the opposite reason - there is not one moment in time that Jamiroquai would ever have been mainstream lol. But there is something about that quality of him that makes him a fitting left-of-center for any moment in time you wish to conceive.
As for the #2 that interrupts this ageless procession...it was eliminated a while ago but I was a huge Craig David fan back in the day and I loved Hot Stuff idc idc. With that said I am not at all surprised that many others did not feel the same. I can think of 10 other things Craig could have done to chop that track up and no matter which direction he chose he would have either not been doing enough, or doing entirely too much. It is almost like asking someone to cover Billie Jean or Beat It...though that does remind me of one BJ cover that I was quite fond of back in the day. I should have a rankdown for 'controversial' covers/samples of classic songs/singers one day.

Wikipedia says Deborah had a hand in writing this song; however a version by Nicole J. McCloud had already been released in 2004. I can find no credits for the Nicole version so it's possible Deborah did still write it only to record her own version later. The song was originally written by Dee Robert and Peter Monk. I found the credits on one of the compilations that had Deborah's recording of the song. Dee also did the backing vocals on Nicole's original. But I think Deborah and Tony wrote that spoken section heard in all of the main Tony/Warren mixes. Deborah recorded her vocals twice, once for the original and then again to fit the Tony Moran & Warren Rigg remixes. A ton of ad libs and other vocals were recorded in that second session and were not used in the main versions. A special dub version was produced and released as a B-side to "Everybody Dance" containing some of them. Even more of them made their way into this special mashup which was the crowning jewel of Tony's 2007 The Event compilation. It was properly released just a couple of years ago. It's massive. The Dio remixes are basically a mashup with a replayed production of Robert Owens' "I'll Be Your Friend".
