2019 was a huge year in which we saw Lizzo rise into mainstream completely out of the blue and blow up with Truth Hurts and Good As Hell, while also seeing several other songs get play or popularity in some form such as social media or commercials?
Currently, Doja Cat seems to be making a similar case with the rise of Juicy being similarly attributed to TikTok and it seems like she may be following suit with Say So and Candy So this begs the question, do ya'll think Doja Cat is gonna be the next Lizzo case in which she blows up out of the blue in a similar fashion?
Juicy is currently #48 on the Hot 100, Say So just rose to #73 Doja Cat even just got included on the Birds Of Prey soundtrack and is the first song on the record too
Do ya'll also support the rise of Doja Cat ofc and want to see her get Lizzo's level of success as a black female rapper?

I think Doja could be the next big thing but I donβt think sheβll have as widespread an audience as Lizzo. 2020 is year of Doja Cat though.

I donβt think sheβll be the next Lizzo, rather her own thing. Doja feels more Urban radio friendly plus it isnβt like Lizzoβs going away anytime soon

Lizzoβs gimmick isnβt any different than others Nah, its not the same. Representation matters. Is there another overweight rapper making huge waves right now? Doja doesnt stand out that much in a sea of Stallion's and Minaj's. Lizzo is the personification of 3rd wave feminism; that you can be overweight and still feel confident and sexy, while simultaneously ruling the rap and pop game. Sure Doja looks cool, but her gimmick isnt on the same level as Lizzo's. I find Doja more talented, but it's not enough. Sure she can still get there eventually, its just gonna take longer cause her gimmick isn't as strong.

Well she has the same start as Lizzo, getting traction off of memes, Tik Tok, and other entertainment sources, but I don't think she has the star-power Lizzo has. I like her music and I hope she gets popular but really it depends on where she goes from here and if she can make any noise on her own.

My favorite response so far is that Doja Cat wonβt be the next Lizzo because sheβs not fat.

At least Say So is a bop. All of Lizzoβs stuff Iβve heard has been annoying, sorry.

Doja Cat has better music. Lizzo feels kind of like a soccer mom artist already. Lizzo appeals more to older people while Doja appeals more to younger people mostly thanks to tik tok.

Iβm not quite sure? Sheβs definitely the biggest βnew artistβ of 2020. I doubt sheβll blow up to the extent Lizzo has, but sheβll be successful. This reminds me of when a bunch of Lizzo songs took off at the same time (Truth Hurts, Good as Hell, Boys, Tempo). βSay Soβ, βBoss Bitchβ & βLike Thatβ are all gaining traction at the moment.

It's all about being the first you and not the next this or that. I think Doja Cat is doing her own thing and will succeed. I never got into any Lizzo songs and find it annoying while Doja Cats music isn't. "Say So" is fun and pleasant to listen to and her music appeals to me more for some reason. It has that late 90's/early 2000s feel & sound to it with a modern sound.

I don't see that many similarities between the two of them other than them being female and some overlap in their sound and styles, but they are different enough from each other and I think they can both co-exist and find audiences.
This whole idea of we have to put people into a box or a category of them being the next _____ doesn't make sense to me. We already have the existing one so why do we need a replacement or the next one? You can't truly replace one artist with another because each one is unique.

I've heard a few cute verses of hers and I like one song that I stream without ever knowing its name judging of that small sample. I didnt think of Lizzo but I can see the reasons for comparing them. They have old school elements, they sing and rap and tbh the music world needs more of that freshness. One sounds more modern and the other has old soul. I see talent in Doja Cat and that's more than I can say for lots of upcoming artists but Lizzo star rose in a way few artists can emulate or hope to reach.

Love me some Doja Cat but, no, I don't see her becoming the next Lizzo in any way, shape, or form.

Say So and Cybersex are the only tracks by Doja I use regularly. I found her album to be very uneven.

Also, just for clarification The thread was more so if Doja would get the same level of buzz, chart success, and recognition that Lizzo was basically getting last year as a rising black female rapper who can also sing well.
Also, Doja's debut is way better than Hot Pink imo. Wild Beach is probably my favorite from her.
