Will be held at Barclays Center. Noms and performers should be revealed pretty soon.

Artists usually incorporated the VMAs into their promotions and era activities eh? I wonder whether there’ll be any big moments this year given last year’s show and ratings were so weak. It used to be that artists used the VMAs as a launch point so in a sense, they needed each other. Might that no longer be true?

The Gaga show last year made Chromatica climb 64-34 on album chart so there was an effect.
They will probably get BTS, Olivia Rodrigo and Lil Nas X as hype acts?

Hopefully this year we get some substantial performers, aside from Gaga and The Weeknd it was very dry last year. And pretty much every year for the past decade the show has had 1 or 2 good performers and the rest are eh.
I'm sure they'll bring in Lil Nas X, since he already teased being asked like a month ago. BTS will likely get a slot, along with Olivia Rodrigo and maybe Billie. Normani seems like a decent shoe-in.
I'd like to see a pretty hefty line-up, nobody watches this show for the awards anymore, we just want to see good performances. Give me some Lizzo and The Weeknd.

The VMAs died when they moved to fan voting. People cared when there was a veil of mystery and honor as to who won one. It doesn't help that MTV is a shell of its former self and refuses to change their terrible business model of just being the Ridiculousness channel 24/7

But last year The Weeknd won Video of the Year over Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Ariana/Gaga... like he had the best video of that bunch and deserved it, but you're telling me Abel had more fan-votes than the Swifties? So it's inconsistent.

There are so much more videos now, the fan votes need to go. It's gonna be lopsided if BTS is included.

Dua really pissed somebody on MTV huh? I think Dua was likely hurt by the DaBaby backlash. Levitating's only nomination was in its solo form for Song of the Year, which seems to take the video (and subsequently DaBaby) out of the equation.

"Streets" was the best music video this year IMO. I guess she got nominated for a ton of other stuff. But still... lol.
And "Thot Sh*t" as well. Easily deserved multiple noms.

WAP vs MONTERO 🌮 🍆 🤩
You know, this is a good list of nominees (outside of future analysis of what’s missing). Kind of makes me both excited and anxious for the Grammys on how much they can fuck up theirs when the time comes.

The nominees are pretty decent but only God knows how loudly I screamed when I saw “Therefore I Am” in Best Cinematography. Was that a mistake? Is there something I’m not seeing? Freaking “Your Power” actually has beautiful shots and coloring, like a goddamn film.

Don’t really care about these anymore but some of the VOTY nominees are so random. It’s def between WAP, Montero and maybe KMM as it should be but nominating Popstar over the Grammy-winning Brown Skin Girl’s video is such a joke.

These noms aren't bad actually. Dua's videos would've been more likely suited for last year's noms right? Her album has been out for a minute right?(time is moving so fcking fast.)

It's obvious VOTY is between WAP and MONTERO, I can't really decide which video is better and both deserve the award either way for the impact they made in the last year
I'm also glad Save Your Tears got a VOTY nom, it's a really good video.

WAP for VOTY.
I really couldn't care less about this show anymore.
I'll watch the performances on youtube the next day if they manage to get anyone decent. It's been a non event since 2017. I couldn't even tell you who won VOTY last year.

Im sure Levitating would have gotten numerous nominations if DaBaby wasn't in the video. I feel like they'll give Dua Song of the Year as a consolation (unless it's fan voted?)

The VMAs snubbed Dua hard in 2020 (and then hilariously invited her [and Harry, whom they also snubbed] to perform) so I can see why one might look at 2021 and think 'wow, they really don't like her.' Nominations haven't actually corresponded to video quality for about an entire decade now, lol. And anyway, on the voting page they use a still shot of Dua from the Levitating video...so they're obviously not above acknowledging the video itself and simply ignoring his attachment to it. Even without the DaDummy version, Dua could have reasonably been nominated for AOTY and best pop.
All the non-professional categories are fan-voted and it's fairly obvious that some awards can be bought as well. So there's really not even any point (IMO) to get invested in what 'should' win because the results will be entirely dictated by whichever fanbase spam votes the most - and MTV obviously encourages spam voting because you're allowed to vote up to 20 times each day before voting closes. BTS will win whatever they're nominated in (I'm being petty and voting for Blackpink in the k-pop category every day just for the hell of it though. tell all your friends to be petty with me lol) Olivia will win New Artist and the Push Award for sure. She should win Artist of the Year but Swifties, Arianators, and/or Beliebers may be too strong to let that happen? We'll see. WAP probably won't win all the awards it truly deserves to but at least most of the VOTY contenders were actual good videos so it won't be quite as annoying if Cardi and Meg lose that one.
Also, why are there so many nominees in each category? I know the Push category always has a lot, but six to eight in everything else feels absurdly unnecessary.
