This is what we call a "Turntable Hit". Lots of spins, but no sales or streams.

^ look I acknowledge MIAB isn’t a runaway success, that’s what I was poking fun at, but HTE is inarguably a hit. After the big streaming debut of the album, it remained stable in performance. These are two verrrrry different situations

HTE is still stable and healthy in streaming, don't let the Xmas clusterfuck deceive you.

I think what’s annoying is that if this was actually pushed a little this could’ve been an easy top 5 or #1 hit. I mean it already basically matched Cardigan & Willow’s peak with no effort.
Maybe she just doesn’t want overexposure since she knows she’s having all the new material with the re-recordings in a short time period.

Bruh Happier Than Ever is still top 200 on Spotify five months after the album release in the middle of the Christmas onslaught. This was out of the top 200 by Thanksgiving, two weeks after the album release. Extremely different situations.

Taylor has been withering away at radio since 2019 so I’m not sure why anyone expected this to do better. Especially with her method of releasing music constantly (which is hurting her in the long run). The more content she drops without a solid break, the poorer the airplay results are going to be. Hopefully her team has a sit down with her to try to convince her that outside of her fanbase, the general public is sick of her and have moved on. She needs to go away for a while and then come back with something good. These re-releases, from the vaults, etc. are doing nothing more than overexposing her.
I know this is a hard pill for her fanbase to swallow as they constantly drink the juice and the narrative that she took back her career with all these re-recordings. But no, from the outside looking in, the public is not here for it and the more it continues the worse it’s going to be. Her releases went from being big events to being “just another week of Taylor dropping something.” It’s no longer special.

It’s not like she didn’t just have one of the biggest sales weeks in years. Even if the re-releases are just for the fans, they’re buying them while those who aren’t interested are able to easily ignore them because she’s no longer all over radio. By the time she comes back with new music (that isn’t “from the vault”), I’m sure we can all go back to calling her a flop again when it inevitably doesn’t do as well as 1989.

Why do people only care about radio? Taylor has proven that she does not need radio to hit number 1, sell her albums, or stream well. Also, let's not act like this is her first single for a pop album. This is an unreleased vault track from 2012....
Radio really helps artists stay relevant(eye roll): Katy Perry, Camila Cabello, and Fergie etc. As I believe Taylor stated, after the age of 33 the industry discards women; radio is no different.
More importantly, why hitch your horse to a dying metric? Look at some of the artist mentioned above who had hit after hit. Now it would take a miracle to get these guys in the top five. Being a radio darling does not create longevity.
Long story short, Taylor is much smarter to cultivate and tend to her fan base than focus on top ten hits on pop radio. She has moved on from that phase in her career.

She’s treating these re-release campaigns like an actual new album campaign, and for the public the material is a digress from a normal album campaign. The more songs she gets charting on the lower-end of radio airplay, the more momentum she’s going to lose. Also, I wouldn’t call radio a “dying” metric, maybe just an aging one. Taylor has been around since 2007 so a lot of her audience has grown into the Hot AC/AC demographic, which is always good to have in your back pocket. She’s way too established for a pop star to only rely on streaming, because at the end of the day that won’t tilt in her favor. Taylor’s streaming pull has weakened over the years. Yes she’s proven to be a huge album bomb streaming force, but the momentum wears off quickly. Without radio it would just less commercial success.

Taylor is doing just fine without radio and she is not focusing on getting another pop hit look at recent collaborations with HAIM and Big Red Machine in 2021,Great indie pop songs that radio didn't bother with and the fans loved them. There might be an oversaturation of Taylor music since 2019 but it is only the fans noticing not the GP who only follows whatever they hear on top 40. Taylor isn't the only artist in recent eras releasing lots of music look at Ariana Grande and The Weeknd, both of them constantly have new songs out. This is the streaming era, you don't need a radio hit to maintain an career look at Carly Rae Jepsen, she hasn't had a radio hit in years and her albums are praised. Taylor is doing just fine at this point in her career.

I don’t see what the big deal is if an artist (or label) chooses to release a song to radio whether they need to or not, even if they know it won’t go all the way. Not every song has to hit number one and I’m sure the expectation isn’t always there. Legacy acts release songs to radio all the time that go nowhere, and I’m sure most don’t expect a ton of radio support but they do it anyway. Taylor isn’t at legacy act yet (probably soon tbh) but sending singles to radio could simply be just another form of promotion for what the priority is, which would be album sales/units. Red was a major success, with or without a radio release. Sometimes a song barely makes the top 20 on pop and tumbles from there and sometimes - that’s perfectly okay.

Fifteen years into her career and Taylor Swift is the #10 most streamed artist in the world on Spotify with the rerelease of a ten year old album performing like a new one.
I know this forum is to discuss radio, but like, in this context, it’s such an insignificant conversation lol.

I hope this rebounds when the year-end countdowns are over and that she releases a video for it. I want it to become a decent sized hit! It's my favourite single of hers since "Wildest Dreams" and I want it to at least manage a top 40 peak on the Hot 100.

I was able to basically avoid her music entirely in the pre-streaming era before she crossed over to pop (when it was much harder to avoid things beyond not listening to radio or watching TV at all) and I would suggest you do the same and let her and her fanbase enjoy this fun uncharted territory.
