I really hope Miley can score a win. I donβt care which award, I just want her to finally get a Grammy. Also, seeing both Padam Padam and Rush get nominations <3
*Edit: Fingers crossed SZA gets some wins too!

Rooting for Victoria to get some! Coco Jones and Halle too.
Nice to see Barbie Movie and Afrobeats/Afro pop getting recognition at the Grammys. Definitely something to look forward to.

Interesting that Morgan Wallen didn't get nominated at all, not even in the country category.

billboard year end top 5s with decent acclaim without aoty nom, 2010+ lover 79 metacritic, #4 year end billboard more life 79, #5 (not submitted) if you're reading this 78, #4 take care 78, #3 a star is born 78, #3 speak now 77, #2 fine line 76, #4 2020 experience 75, #1 anti 73, #5
fair amount of drake. we'll always have to wonder if 2020 would have gone all the way if it wasn't for that companion album.

Interesting that Morgan Wallen didn't get nominated at all, not even in the country category. Why? Heβs never been nominated and seemingly not receiving much support from the country voters. His fans can take comfort in his song being nominated, I suppose.

It seems like the Grammy's have really gone away with rewarding great work, by simply rewarding successful work that seems to be generally popular. I find this interesting because I literally was just reading Morgan Wallen fans bitching that he wasn't nominated despite huge sales. Additionally, Jon Batiste has major noms and isn't commercially relevant at all. Those could be outliers, but it was just what I thought when I read that comment. The biggest surprise to me is "I Remember Everything" being left out of Record and Song; I thought at least a Song nom was a shoo-in. The nomination for the "Workin' Hard" remix is so random. It shows voters have a real awareness of Mariah's music if they know a remix of a 30 year-old leftover track, and the fact that the only time her music has been nominated in over 15 years is for something where she's not technically nominated is so on brand for how they treat her.

Dance the Night for SOTY is hilarious. It's fine as a droplet/soundtrack single, but...SOTY?!

Barbie SZA MonΓ©t takeover. Very pleased this year really. I think "Red Ruby Da Sleeze" should've received a Rap Perf nomination but that's just me! And where tf is "Boy's a Liar Pt.2"?!

Hoping Billie will sweep with "What Was I Made for?" I could imagine if it won and she performed the song could maybe get to #1 on the Hot 100. It should be peaking in airplay around the time of the Grammys - it's still gaining nicely.
Hoping Miley may get at least 1 win though! Perhaps the song she did with Brandi?
The noms overall look really good/varied.

I hope women sweep the Big 4 and I honestly think itβs possible if Grammy voters decide to spread the love instead of letting one artist sweep. Iβd like to see it go:
Album - SZA Record - Taylor Song - Miley BNA - Ice Spice

Flowers doesn't seem like it's a lyrically strong choice (but hey, they've rewarded "Single Ladies" lol), and it already sounds like Bruno Mars' "When I Was Your Man".

Ice Spice deserves absolutely NOTHING, sorry. I don't care how popular she is. Looking at those nominees, she is the least talented of them all. I hope Victoria MonΓ©t comes through. If she falters, Coco Jones, Jelly Roll, The War & Treaty and Noah Kahan are right there.

If there's one thing the Grammys have been consistent about over the years, it's not awarding AOTY to albums that sample music. SZA, as much as I love the album personally (my fave of last year!), is NOT winning album of the year for this reason. Kill Bill might shock us in ROTY and SOTY, but I tend to think Billie is the favorite, given her track record of winning each category in the past. Also, they usually NEVER split ROTY and SOTY when the same songs are nominated in each category, so if someone wins one, they're winning the other.
If you ask me now what my picks are, I'd say Billie for ROTY and SOTY, and I really feel AOTY is a toss up. I reluctantly say Taylor will win even though Midnights was not her best work. But then I have to ask myself, "Who else if not her?" Jon Batiste, again? Boygenius? I just don't know. Boygenius feels like it could be the dark horse.

Hasn't this changed as of late, or maybe I am not understanding correctly? Last year "About Damn Time" won ROTY, and it was also nominated in SOTY but lost. The same was true the previous year when "Leave the Door Open" won ROTY, but lost in SOTY. It was then true the year before that, too, when "Everything I Wanted" won ROTY but lost SOTY to "I Can't Breathe." The two years prior to those did have a sweep with "Bad Guy" and "This is America," but I think they've shown they will split.

"Leave the Door Open" swept all 4 categories it was nominated for including Record and Song of the Year

The two years prior to those did have a sweep with "Bad Guy" and "This is America," but I think they've shown they will split. There's a key difference here, and maybe I should've clarified. Yes, all those songs you mentioned were nominated in both categories. But take a look at the songs they lost to. "Just Like That," "I Can't Breathe." (Leave the Door Open DID win both.) Just Like That and I Can't Breathe were NOT nominated in Record of the Year. What I should've said is that when songs are nominated in BOTH categories of SOTY and ROTY, rarely will they split both awards between two songs that are both up for each of those two awards. If there's a split, they'll give one of the awards (of late SOTY) to a song that isn't nominated in the other category. So for this year, I wouldn't expect, say, Flowers and What Was I Made For to split ROTY and SOTY between each other. If one of them wins ROTY, the only way it'll lose SOTY is if it loses to a song in that category that isn't nominated for ROTY, like "Butterfly" or "Dance the Night." Does that make sense? lol. I follow the Grammys closely (maybe even make friendly wagers on websites based on their track record) and this is one pattern I've definitely noticed with the Grammys extending back a LONG way. The predicted splits for ROTY and SOTY only happens when one song wins one of the categories but isn't nominated in another. 2023: ROTY: About Damn Time, SOTY: Just Like That (not nominated in ROTY) 2022: Leave the Door Open wins both 2021: ROTY: Everything I Wanted, SOTY: I Can't Breathe (not nominated in ROTY) 2020: Bad Guy wins both 2019: This is America wins both 2018: ROTY: 24K Magic, SOTY: That's What I Like (both not nominated in the other category but both are Bruno Mars songs. Only the second time in Grammys history the same artist wins ROTY and SOTY in the same year for different songs. The other time? Carole King in 1972 for It's Too Late and You've Got a Friend.) 2017: Hello wins both 2016: ROTY: Uptwon Funk (not nominated in SOTY), SOTY: Thinking Out Loud. 2015: Stay With Me wins both 2014: ROTY: Get Lucky (not nominated in SOTY), SOTY: Royals 2013: ROTY: Somebody that I Used To Know (not nominated in SOTY), SOTY: We Are Young 2012: Rolling in the Deep wins both 2011: Need You Now wins both 2010: ROTY: Use Somebody, SOTY: Single Ladies (not nominated in ROTY). 2010 is one of Beyonce's worst Grammys miscalculations. She submitted and was nomianted for "Halo" in ROTY that year. If she had sent in "Single Ladies" to both she probably also wins ROTY. (Her other big Grammy mistake was submitting Black Parade to ROTY in 2021 and splitting the vote with Savage, paving the way for the Billie Eilish win there). 2009: ROTY: Please Read the Letter (not nominated in SOTY), SOTY: Viva La Vida 2008: Rehab wins both 2007: Not Ready to Make Nice wins both 2006: ROTY: Boulevard of Broken Dreams (not nomianted in SOTY), SOTY: Sometimes You Can't Make it On Your Own (not nominated in ROTY). Mariah deserved. 2005: ROTY: Here We Go Again (not nominated in SOTY), SOTY: Daughters (not nominated in ROTY) 2004: ROTY: Clocks (not nominated in SOTY), SOTY Dance With My Father (not nomianted in ROTY) 2003: Don't Know Why wins both 2002: ROTY: Walk On (not nomianted in SOTY), SOTY: Fallin' 2001: Beautiful Day wins both 2000: Smooth wins both 1999: My Heart Will Go On wins both 1998: Sunny Came Home wins both 1997: Change the World wins both 1996: Kiss from a Rose wins both AND HERE IT IS! The last time both songs were nominated in each category and the Grammys decided to split the award . 1995: Streets of Philadelphia takes SOTY while All I Wanna Do takes ROTY. Both were nominated in each category.

So, the music that wins could literally be 16 months old by the time the awards air. What in fresh hell? It's damn 2024, this process should be getting streamlined, not taking even more time. Meanwhile they announced the Lifetime Achievement Award recipients for this year: Donna Summer, Gladys Knight, The Clark Sisters, N.W.A., Laurie Anderson, and Tammy Wynette are the recipients. All of them are of course very deserving, and I am surprised Summer and Knight in particular hadn't already received this Award. Do they no longer do the Grammy Hall of Fame song selections? I haven't seen that for a few years.
