Damn, Heels Over Head is a banger, love the lyrics and production. I wish that was released as a radio single instead.

I'm really liking what Carly's been releasing. You gotta think that an album announcement is coming really soon. With how slow "Fight" is climbing, I'm predicting the album comes out in like... March(ish) 2024, honestly. Also, "Heels" is definitely the best of the 3 songs from CP4 so far. I love the production.

I agree. I predict an announcement in January, with the album coming in March. 🙂

I know, I know, the charts are slowwwww..
But I can't help but think that if Carly had released something other than yet another slow, depressing divorce song, she'd be a little further along than she is right now...

This sounds GOOD. Like better than any of the 3 songs she's released from CP4 up to this point. Also can't help but notice the similarities it bears to Ashley Cooke's "Your Place" from the title to the premise, lol. The key difference just being the vantage point it's sung from.

Carly is wailing way too much for my tastes in this lol. I really need her to stop singing about breakups, too.

Carly is wailing way too much for my tastes in this lol. I really need her to stop singing about breakups, too. She has no depth to her content. Every song is a breakup mid/ballad. I really wish she would diversify some of her subject matter. She’s 3 records (?) in and I feel like so far her music is completely one-dimensional

I echo that I do want her to lean away from the divorce/breakup songs, and that's from someone who loves her. I'm worried that due to the success of 29 that she might lean a little too much into that, trying to replicate the success.
Really I haven't been the biggest fan of the promo singles (Country Music Made Me Do It and Heels over Head). "My Place" seems like its pretty good and I still enjoy "We Don't Fight Anymore," but I'm still waiting to be wowed like I was with some of the songs last album. I still think back on a teaser she posted last year to a new song titled (I think) "Better Off," and that one gave me the wow factor (the teaser is in the WHDD thread.) I only hope that it's going to make the album.

I just want an outright happy go lucky love song from her. I know it wasn't the most well received but I always had a soft spot for "Closer To You" and wouldn't mind that type of song from her once in a while. I still like her music overall and of the artists in country music she is definitely on the higher end. But I just want slightly better.

I feel like we're kind of seeing that already this era with the Chris collab which will at least secure award nominations or her and she's definitely treating "Trust Issues," like the "What He Didn't Do" of the era. Still a huge of Carly, but I echo the same thoughts/opinions of other posters on moving away from the break-up/divorce themed stuff. I do think she's in an awkward position though at radio where they really don't know what to do with her. It will be interesting to see how the rest of the era plays out!

When all Carly’s #1 hits are breakup songs, and all her songs that weren’t didn’t make the top 10, I can see why she wants to keep making breakup songs. She’s had a few great uptempo love songs (Color, Hearts Going Out of Its Mind, You Kissed Me First) that just weren’t ever singles, but I do agree that she could use some more in her catalog. I get why her last album didn’t have any - it was an introspective reflection of her life at 29, which is when she went through a divorce. But I would’ve come out swinging with something different (at least uptempo) for the lead from this album. This song burned on me so quickly because it’s dull. I haven’t loved anything released from this album so far but “Heels Over Head” has definitely been my favorite of the 3. I’m ready for some 29: Written in Stone level quality from her though.

Yeah, she's proven she can do uptempo love songs and do them well, but she needs to diversify her singles catalog and release some more of them to radio because after the 29 singles, it just feels like she's settling into a rut with these divorce anthems. She does them well, but "Fight" as a lead-off to CP4 just continues to feel like an odd choice to me, outside of the Stapleton feature being tacked onto it for obvious award clout. It's finally picking up and will probably have a respectable peak in the end, but it's definitely not going to be another "What He Didn't Do" or "I Hope You're Happy Now" for her in terms of impact.

I just want an outright happy go lucky love song from her. The first time I heard her was way back with Josh Abbott, which was exactly that kind of song and still stands up as being good as anything else she's released since then IMO.

Great song but I won't call it "happy go lucky love song". It's a cheating song in an album about Josh Abbott's cheating lol

I always thought Carly needed to improve her way of handling her vocals, sometimes she seems to be aggressive and sometimes she is not enough. ''Never Wanted to Be That Girl'' is an excellent collaboration but I gotta say that Ashley beats Carly every time in live even I like Carly better.

I agree with all of the posts above. It's come to the point for me where I'm like, we get it Carly! You went through an awful time, ya got through it. We have moved on...you can, too! 🤪 (LOL!).
I still adore her and her music to pieces. She's one of the better singers quality-wise in this genre, as she's seems to make actually want to produce country music. 🙂

Well the good news this song is now Top 20 on both charts as she moved up to #19 on Billboard and landed at #20 last night on Mediabase, and this is looking to return on the Hot 100 near the Top 70, so this song is doing pretty darn well heading into the new year, and I have to think the album announcement has to be coming soon as I heard on the radio the album is done.

Wow, its already going to be in the 70s on the hot 100 despite just entering the top 20. If streaming and sales hold up, this could very well be a top 40 hit on the hot 100 when it's peaking. That far exceeds what I thought it would peak at. I thought it would probably peak similar to Never Wanted To Be That Girl on the hot 100.

Carly's no streaming giant by any means, but several of her big hits have put up some pretty great numbers on Spotify. NWTBTG actually did poorly in streaming (much to my surprise and sadness), but "What He Didn't Do" was a juggernaut. She also great figures for "Every Little Thing," "Next Girl," and ofc. "I Hope You're Happy Now" which is closing in on 200mil rn. WDFA is doing pretty well with 23mil on Spotify as it just enters the top 20 and has a ways to go yet, plus the impending release of an album.

Yeah,I'm just complaining about how overall female country artists' album streaming numbers. Look at country album charts, for the past few years,I figure that there are only taylor, gabby and lainey who has any real longevity. Other females all fell out of chart fast.

I do think albums in general are becoming more obsolete, as most of the albums are greatest hits, Taylor Swift re-recordings, or the same albums by Morgan Wallen, Luke Combs, Zach Bryan, and Chris Stapleton. I would focus more on the individual songs that do well than the albums at this point.

I’m not a fan of her at all, but that aside, it kinda feels like time to pull this for something more radio friendly that might actually connect? This is treading water this week and doesn’t feel like a song that radio typically likes to play anyway.
I think she should probably flip singles before she wastes all the goodwill and momentum she built up with her last 3 singles. Preferably a single with tempo.

This isn't my favorite single from her, but I do enjoy it more than most on here. I will say though that while this hasn't been huge on the radio front, it does have the streams to back it up. This has already made it as high as 67 on the hot 100, despite only being just inside the 20s level for airplay.
Knowing Big Machine, and their commitments to push songs that did not connect that well all the way to the top *cough "All I Need I You" *cough "Standing Room Only," I'm fully expecting them to try to get this to #1, or as close as possible, given that it has good streaming. I think that's also why we haven't had an album announcement yet, even though the album has been done for a while now.

I don’t mind this, but I’m definitely ready for a new single. Not everything has to have a 54 week push to #1, lol.

Worth noting she blacked out her profile pics on all of her socials last night. I imagine an album announcement is coming soon.

I noticed on Iheart Radio and Amazon Music the song title is all lowercase now which is weird that they would make a change like that after it’s been out since last summer.
