I noticed on Iheart Radio and Amazon Music the song title is all lowercase now which is weird that they would make a change like that after it’s been out since last summer. The whole album is stylized in lowercase. Definitely strange to make that choice when 3 songs have already been released and not stylized like that, but that’s why the change occurred.

LMAO the cover side by side with the title literally has me on the floor.

Well with the album not coming out until June 14th, Big Machine is probably pushing this song until the album release date or close to it, so this song will be in it for the long haul folks.

Stylizing in all lowercase feels like something reserved for super young artists like Olivia Rodrigo or Billie Eilish unless the sound of the album really matches that vibe (see: folklore/evermore). Not a fan of that choice here...

It seems as though the lowercase/UPPERCASE (lol) thing has in been "in" for a bit. It's been so overdone, imo. Still excited for the album!

Title track was lovely, but not something I’d seek out by any stretch of the imagination. It’s rather a song that probably only makes sense within the context of the 13 tracks before it—there’s gotta be a good reason it’s the closer.
I’m starting to think this will be that album of hers that’s either loved or hated, with no in-between, as even I wasn’t thoroughly enthused by the title track and I’ve loved quite literally everything she’s put out.

hummingbird is decent imo. Better than the other two pre-releases, but not as good as the lead.
Still waiting on one of these to knock me out of the park, because the only two that I am feeling are this one and the lead, both of which though would be ranked in the mid to lower half of 29 for me.

really don’t understand where Carly is going in this era after 2 cliches and 1 interesting output there is hummingbird which is a little strange really thought before that she would keep on the Patty Loveless Feel style

Hummingbird almost feels like a diary entry.
I guess the word I’m thinking is intrigued. All three of the pre-release songs, and now this, have had very distinct sounds - and lyric themes, and I’m not sure how they all intersect.
Big Carly fan, and 29 was one of the best albums of the decade…but it’s always hard to follow an album that was so critically acclaimed…and these first few songs don’t give me the upmost confidence she’s done it. Hopeful it’s just as good, but preparing that it’s not going to be.

I don't think "Hummingbird" should go anywhere near country radio, but I do find the song to be really enjoyable especially in the chorus. The fiddle being such a lead instrument is amazing for the song imo.

"hummingbird" is absolutely gorgeous. Definitely can see why it may not be instant for some, but the melody really does sneak up on you. The production and instrumentation are what really sell the song though. The album cover has me in a complete chokehold as well. Can’t wait to hear the remaining tracks!

Looks like radio has finally decided it's time to give this one a push that all of the metrics have always said it should have been getting.
This is also top-2 at iTunes right now because it was performed by contestants on the Voice last night.

This is more in line with the 29 quality, rather than Heels and CMMMDI. Would say it'd be a good single, but given Ashley Cooke's song is very similar, and almost has the same title. They probably won't.

Lol at all 5 pre-release songs from this album being worse than every song off of 29. Maybe there's some actual quality content on the album that hasn't been released yet but yikes at her going from one of the best records of the decade to 5 songs that are just average and nothing special to promote her upcoming album.

Yeah, "My Place" ain't doing it for me, either. Ashley Cooke's current hit is basically the same thing executed way better. Lol at all 5 pre-release songs from this album being worse than every song off of 29. Maybe there's some actual quality content on the album that hasn't been released yet but yikes at her going from one of the best records of the decade to 5 songs that are just average and nothing special to kick promote her upcoming album. Major co-sign to this. I'm really underwhelmed and just not feeling excited at all about this upcoming album, sadly. Even if the rest of the record is somehow incredible, it's already her most uneven project to date. :/

I don’t think Carly is someone radio HAS to play. I think she delivered undeniable hits for the last 2 years. If she doesn’t deliver something of higher quality (and with some tempo) as her next single, I don’t think it’s impossible she stops getting Top 20 hits.

The lead single grew on me and "hummingbird" is gorgeous but she can keep all the other tracks. As for "my place", like others have stated, Ashley Cooke did this theme waaaay better. If the rest of the album ends up being 29 level, I will just consider most of these pre-release tracks filler and still end up happy overall with the project as a whole. Guess we will see!

I think the biggest problem with these pre release tracks is that a lot of them lack that extra oomph factor that songs like "What He Didn't Do" and even album cuts like "29", "Should Have Known Better".
A lot of these songs just feel very melancholy and sleepy in arrangement. Carly Pearce is putting her all into a lot of these songs but the final product feels lackluster.

I think right now I’m only keeping these three. Gave them a grade to further describe how I feel about them.
hummingbird (A) we don’t fight anymore (B) my place (B-)
I do echo that I just felt the hype going into 29. Like all the unreleased songs she was posting were all just home runs that people were clamoring over. It sucks though because she’s posted some steller demos over the past year, heck even some during the 29 era, that are nowhere to be found on hummingbird.
At this point I kinda wish they just did a 4th single from the last album, with “Should’ve Known Better” cause I was looking at her streaming numbers and was blown away that one has like 25 million Spotify streams and 4 million views on the YouTube lyric video. Could’ve easily been a radio hit.

I'm just hoping she's got SOMETHING she's holding onto that's a surefire upbeat (or at least midtempo) smash that will be the 2nd single.

I have no desire to seek out new music from her, but "hummingbird" did come across my YouTube a while back and I have to say.. that's a really beautiful song. So many other artists could do the song way more justice vocally tho.

Carly has a really emotional, honest vocal delivery. And while I’ve liked songs here and there from her, her overall “thing” is way too sad/boring. At this point it just feels one dimensional, and as a casual fan, it’s pretty discouraging from ever wanting to see her live. These instant grat songs aren’t bad by any means. They have depth and are well written. She just has to find a way to do something other than a heartbreak ballad. Hopeful for the rest of the project

I get that she went through a divorce so the 29 project made total sense, but it's a new era, please pivot and give us some variety again Carly! Her first two albums had lots of upbeat love songs that exuded happy vibes, so it's definitely possible and within her arsenal to do it. I know "Closer to You" didn't do very well for her commercially, but something in that vein (but more interesting) would be a welcome change at this point.

“Heels Over Head” grew on me quite a bit from when it was released and “Hummingbird” is easily my favorite from the tracks we’ve heard. The single is also fantastic so for me it’s all working. I do think 29 was stronger from what we’re hearing, and I definitely want her to explore more concepts later on but I’m not worried for my own personal enjoyment.
