The more I think about this, the more I think she's doing some questionable marketing. It started from a tweet - not a primary source, I know, but Doja did wipe her socials before introducing us to "Scarlet". No one can actually tell you what the Scarlet Tour means except for the in-motion tour photo of her that's supposed to look eerie, very different from the Doja Cat the general public knows from Say So. (I wouldn't be surprised if the album is called Scarlet, though it seems like she'd announce that at the same time.) I'm not necessarily defending it - there's precedent for Eminem and Nicki doing this kind of thing much better, and it's gonna be hard to walk back with "Guys that was Scarlet not me!" - but it makes more sense then "Doja Cat said fuck this tour, fuck her fans, she would like to burn money up, watch it shrivel and die."
On the subject of the individual track, I don't expect a push for pop (maybe Top 50 again) and going for rhythmic and urban adds this time. She's made it very clear there will be no pop on this album (unfortunately).

It's starting to look like this may be her downfall era. A flop lead/"buzz" single that spent 3 weeks on the chart, intentionally turning her fanbase against her, plus she's still in those damn chatrooms (bumping coke on camera).
That being said, she always delivers when it comes to music and visuals, so at least hoping for a quality record.

I also don't think it's that uncommon for audiences to move on if they don't like a new direction from an artist. Outside of stan culture, general audiences have no real devotion or investment on acts and will move on if the songs aren't what they like. Acts don't have to stay on one lane, but people are also not required to give a f*ck.
There's plenty of room for her to do great stuff without resorting to the pop sound she seems to despise, but added to her recent comments, she has to come back harder than ever. This sounds promising enough.
