i didn't "get" bad idea right on first listen either so there's a chance this might grow on me, but i think this might just be olivia's worst single to date. like, vampire and bad idea right are genuinely interestingly written, boundary pushing for pop radio songs, and this just feels. basic ?? it is catchy and a lot "safer" then her first two singles from the album (or really any of her singles period) so it'll probably be another decent hit, but this is also the first single she's made that sounds like it could be by one of her knockoffs like jax or lauren fingerscrossed-smith or smth
also i really hate to levy this criticism at her, because i know it's such a common one hurled at young women who make pop music, but i'm genuinely starting to get rly sick of her writing songs abt her ex. like i know she probably doesn't have a ton of life experience (read: songwriting material) besides guys and generally angst (see brutal or jealousy x2) and i didn't mind it at all on her first album because she tackled it from so many angles + had some really interesting things to say abt it, but she's starting to face the point where she risks the public writing her off as a one trick pony, which would be a shame since she's usually one of the most interesting artists on pop radio. but this ain't it

The verses are only okay but the chorus is great. The very start with the male voice is annoying, though

Why doesnβt this have an adds date yet? Itβs not like Vampire or BIR would suck up all its spins.
Her radio singles have been so mismanaged this era.

The verses are only okay but the chorus is great. The very start with the male voice is annoying, though I feel the exact opposite. Her flow really hits in the verses but that melody-less, schoolchildren shouting chorus is so lazy and borderline irritating.

But I do feel agree it's a weird choice for the single. If they wanted something more interesting and alt-rocky, there's all-american bitch. And if they wanted a more straightforward, catchy pop-rock song that would have the same appeal as good 4 u, there's love is embarrassing.

Why are they releasing this so close to the second single release? BIR was billed as a promo single. Her single rollouts last era were messy too, tbh.

It's crazy how radio stations have lost interest in Olivia during this Guts era. After the massive radio success of the Sour singles, you would think that Olivia's highly anticipated new music would fly high on radio, but unfortunately it isn't the case. I wonder if radio stations aren't impressed with Olivia's edgier alt rock sound in midst of a pop-country dominance on radio. Vampire only peaked at #6 on the Billboard Radio Songs chart. Bad Idea Right has peaked at #43 so far. Get Him Back hasn't made much of an impact so far, not even in the week during which the album was released. In comparison, Drivers license was #1 for 5 weeks and Good 4 u was #1 for 3 weeks in 2021. Without much radio support, it is difficult for pop artists to exclusively rely on streaming and make any long lasting impact on the charts.

Bad Idea Right is in the top 20 on its own without any adds date. Get Him Back is also charting on its own without an adds date. I swear all I ever see is you shitting on female artists it's borderline trolling.

Without much radio support, it is difficult for pop artists to exclusively rely on streaming and make any long lasting impact on the charts. I wouldnβt necessarily say radio has lost interest, or the general public at large. Sheβs moving a little over 300k albums this week, Vampire is likely to be #1 on BB100 this week, and BIR will be Top 10 on BB100. Not bad metrics. Itβs certainly not the level her first album did, and streaming is down, but itβs a respectable play at a sophomore return. There is some validity to the idea that maybe the roll out has been a bit rocky (we donβt need 3 Olivia songs in Top 50), and the pop punk rock sound might not fit the current landscape. But Iβd hardly consider this era anything less than successful.

I swear all I ever see is you shitting on female artists it's borderline trolling. You're absolutely pathetic. You should read what someone is posting before personally attacking them in a gratuitous way. I have been posting about how great Guts is doing all week long. Olivia is one of my favorite artists and I think her new album is outstanding. And I have been loving female artists since I was born. I grew up listening to Alanis Morissette, who I saw live about 15 times. I was just pointing out that Olivia's current radio singles aren't doing as great as her Sour singles... not shitting on Olivia, just blaming radio. You're the one that's trolling, not me. And you're probably too biased to even read anything or perhaps you are still pressed because once I pointed out that Taylor Swift can't sing to save her life. Truth hurts, doesn't it? These are some examples: Incredible numbers for Olivia! She had an outstanding first week in America. So far Guts hit #1 in Australia, Netherlands, Germany, Ireland, Norway, Sweden and the UK. It is also #3 in Italy and #5 in France, two countries where local Italian and French artists usually dominate the charts and it is incredibly difficult for American music to chart in the upper echelons. More countries to come as local charts get updated. It's amazing how well Guts is doing. The overall sound of the album is much less commercial and radio friendly than Sour as it leaning more towards alternative rock. It is refreshing to see that there are still music fans who enjoy this kind of music. Best album of 2023! I also expect the album to be huge at next year's Grammy awards. Vampire will probably hit no. 1 again next week, then stick around the top ten for a few weeks and return to no. 1 for Halloween. Another monster album for Olivia!

Larry girl I'm gonna stop you there, Ms. Olivia Rodrigo this far is performing just fine on pop radio this era considering Vampire only just finished peaking, we can't really construct an overall analysis since bad idea right is still a new single and get him back hasn't even been pushed yet.
Wrap that discussion up mamas cause its too early for any verdicts on an album that literally just came out.
