As I'm getting older I find that my attention span is getting less and less. I used to be all about the albums that were 20+ songs. Now even with my faves I cut down the size of their 14-16 song albums to 8-10 songs per album so I can listen in one "sitting" (i.e. while driving to work).
Which do you prefer? A shorter, more cohesive album? Or a longer album with a little bit of everything?
If it depends...I guess which do you *generally* prefer? If your fave released an album tomorrow, which would you rather have?

I generally prefer an album of 10-12 songs where basically every song is solid. Albums longer than that often have several songs I skip. I don't think it's a coincidence lot of my favorite albums (When the Pawn..., Daydream, Off the Wall, Talking Book, Ok Computer) are in that 10-12 songs range.
Having said that, there are occasionally long, sprawling albums I love. The main example is Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. That's an album where the large number of songs makes sense and works. Still, on the whole albums that are long seem to just drag on and I think there are a lot of songs that could be cut. I don't mind 'deluxe' editions of albums as long as they come out at the same time as the regular edition so fans get to choose which version they want. That allows fans to get a longer version of an album if they want it. What I don't like are the cash grabs where there are a lot of different editions, especially ones that come out after the original edition.

It's tough because it does depend on the artist and the material. I find 11-13 tracks to be a perfect length. Admittedly, 10 or less feels underwhelming and, in a lot of cases, 16 or more can feel overwhelming. If one of my favs announced an album and revealed the tracklist at 10 songs, I'd be a little disappointed. But I also feel that long albums isn't always the best thing because of filler - but then again, it comes down to the artist and whether I expect them to be able to deliver.

Generally, I prefer shorter, but if it's around 14-16 tracks and can still be cohesive, I would be willling to listen to the album throughout. (E.g. Aaliyah album, Never Say Never, No More Drama)

I would say anything between 12-14 songs is perfect for me. There are definitely some albums that are so amazing that a longer length is justified (i.e. the Taylor's Versions albums), but for many artists, it feels like there starts to become a lot of filler if they get much longer than that.

I like long albums, but not if a lot of the tracks are interludes. Give me music, I didn’t pay all this money to hear a skit or hear you talk.

Generally I prefer shorter, or at least more compact, albums. Especially in this day and age when one’s favorite acts can often release additional singles, EP’s, or other stray tracks online when they wish.

I don't need a 30 track album but like the 10 track albums or even 15 track albums that the length is barely even 30 mins........issa no
I like a nice 55-60 min album

Long albums for sure. I guess 14 to 17/18 songs is the best. Or even more. I am always disapponted when album is 10 or less songs or even 11.
I think the least that I am satisfied with is 12 songs.
But albums with longer songs (5+ minutes) can pass with 10 songs I guess.
