Michael Buble is bitter. I'm not sure if he's bitter about just the fact that his category won't be announced on TV, the fact that he knows he's not going to win or the fact that he hates all celebrities and he's mad that he isn't famous.

Sounds alittle childish to me.

"DFAU" by Mariah was a far better vocal than what Mary gave.
Mariah should win for best female vocal performance not Mary..........
Mary can barely sing............

Press Release Source: VH1 Carrie Underwood Overachieves In VH1's 5th Annual GRAMMY Awards Poll Thursday February 1, 8:00 am ET Justin Timberlake and Mary J. Blige Are Also Predicted to Take Home Trophies on Sunday, February 11 Number of Adults Who Opt To Purchase Downloaded Music From Web Sites Nearly Doubles From Previous VH1 Poll 9 Months Ago NEW YORK, Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- An "American Idol," a guy who's bringing sexy back, and the queen of hip hop soul will win big at the GRAMMY® Awards on Sunday, February 11, according to the results from VH1's 5th annual Grammy poll. ADVERTISEMENT Adult respondents in VH1's poll singled out Carrie Underwood as "Best New Artist" and predicted that her "Jesus, Take The Wheel" will win the award for "Song of the Year." Justin Timberlake's "FutureSex/LoveSounds" came out on top for "Album of the Year" while Mary J. Blige's "Be Without You" is pegged for "Record of the Year." VH1 commissioned a telephone poll of a random national sample of 484 men and women between the ages of 18-49 who were asked who they, personally, thought would win Record, Album, Song, and Best New Artist of the Year. "I don't think anyone could have predicted just how big Carrie Underwood would be with her debut album," said Rick Krim, EVP, Talent and Music Programming, VH1. "The promotional power of 'American Idol' cannot be denied, but Carrie also delivered a vocally strong album with a number of great songs that connected with country music fans around the country. We'll have to wait and see if the music industry views her talent as highly as her fans do." Adults Who Download Music From Web Sites Nearly Doubles From Previous VH1 Poll 9 Months Ago The poll also confirmed "What a difference a holiday season can make." VH1 also asked respondents where they would buy music during a busy week. 48% said from a mass retailer such as Wal-Mart or Target while 26% said they would download from a web site. 16% said they would go to a traditional music store and 9% said they would buy a CD from a site such as Amazon. The download number is almost double the response VH1 received when it asked roughly the same number of adults the same question in April 2006. The April 2006 poll found that 15% of adults said they would download music from a website during a busy week. In fact, music downloading showed significant increases among three key adult age groups: Age Group April 2006 January 2007 18-29 17% 29% 30-39 18% 29% 40-49 10% 20% Christina Aguilera and Sheryl Crow also tied for #1 in the poll when respondents were asked which nominee for "Best Female Pop Vocal Performance" they would like to take singing lessons from. Full VH1 Poll findings are below: Album of the Year Rankings: 1.) "FutureSex/LoveSounds" - Justin Timberlake 34% 2.) "Stadium Arcadium" - Red Hot Chili Peppers 27% 3.) Hard to keep up with Michael. LOL
Actually, those predictions upthread sound pretty solid to me.
Mary J. is not my cup of tea but she is highly respected and seems like a class act.

Grammy PicksWhen you sit down to watch the 49th Annual Grammy Awards, is it because you simply love music? Maybe you tune in to watch your favorite band perform or to make fun of the Academy when they have another Jethro Tull moment. Or maybe you're the lead singer of Lamb of God and couldn't bear to be seen seated next to Clay Aiken. Personally, I'm tuning in because Fergie's skirt keeps getting shorter with every awards show, and I don't want to be the only one to miss it when she "accidentally" exposes her va-jay-jay live on national television. Oh, and also because I have the privilege of attempting to get into the minds of Grammy voters and predict who will take home the music industry's biggest awards. Whatever your reason for tuning in, follow along with our prognostications below. Who knows, maybe you'll even find some songs to download after the show is over (legally, people, jeez!) — David Steed Record Of The Year "Be Without You" (Mary J. Blige) "You're Beautiful" (James Blunt) "Not Ready to Make Nice" (Dixie Chicks) "Crazy" (Gnarls Barkley) "Put Your Records On" (Corinne Bailey Rae)
Should win: What does it say about a song when at least three other Grammy-nominated artists (The Flaming Lips, The Raconteurs, Nelly Furtado) have covered it the year it was released? It says that everybody went "Crazy" for Danger Mouse and Cee-Lo's collaboration.
Will win: Every day it becomes more acceptable to bash Dubya, but not quite acceptable enough to win the big one. Clear off a spot on the mantel, Mr. Blunt, you're going to be singing your song to a beautiful trophy soon.
Where's the love?: "Put Your Records On" might be a good track, but Corinne Bailey Rae didn't bring "SexyBack" this year. My boy J.T. put out the one song you just couldn't get out of your head.
Album Of The Year Taking the Long Way (Dixie Chicks) St. Elsewhere (Gnarls Barkley) Continuum (John Mayer) Stadium Arcadium (Red Hot Chili Peppers) FutureSex/LoveSounds (Justin Timberlake)
Should win: Stadium Arcadium is a bit overblown with its 28 tracks, but it's the most consistent of any of the records nominated this year.
Will win: The academy has recognized John Mayer for individual songs before, but this year they'll reward the album as a whole. Mayer's a funny man, too, so be sure to listen to his acceptance speech.
Where's the love?: It would have been nice to see the last recordings of Johnny Cash — American V: A Hundred Highways — get some recognition for the stark masterpiece that it is.
Best New Artist James Blunt Chris Brown Imogen Heap Corinne Bailey Rae Carrie Underwood
Should win: American Idol's country girl might have sold the most records, but teenager Chris Brown inserted some serious swagger into the R&B world.
Will win: If James Blunt wins record of the year, how could he not be the best new artist, right? Well, stranger things have happened at the Grammys, and the simple reality is that the AI juggernaut just cannot be stopped. Ms. Underwood to the podium, please.
Where's the love?: How does Gnarls Barkley get nominated for record of the year and album of the year, but isn't the best new artist of 2006?
Best Female Pop Vocal Performance "Ain't No Other Man" (Christina Aguilera) "Unwritten" (Natasha Bedingfield) "You Can Close Your Eyes" (Sheryl Crow) "Stupid Girls" (Pink) "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" (K.T. Tunstall)
Should win: Natasha Bedingfield has the looks, the chops and a great bloodline (brother Daniel is a star in his own right). "Unwritten" is the best song in a tough category.
Will win: Christina is always the favorite in whatever she does, but look for an upset here with the sharp and unique K.T. Tunstall picking one from the Grammy tree.
Where's the love?: I close my ears every time Sheryl Crow sings — even Jessica Simpson deserves a nomination over Crow's tune. "A Public Affair" was one of the top songs to bring back an old-school sound to pop music.
Best Male Pop Vocal Performance "You're Beautiful" (James Blunt) "Save Room" (John Legend) "Waiting on the World to Change" (John Mayer) "Jenny Wren" (Paul McCartney) "Bad Day" (Daniel Powter)
Should win: In 2005, Mayer took song of the year for "Daughters," and "Waiting on the World to Change" is a better track than that.
Will win: Despite Sir Paul getting nominated for the second year in a row for a song from his album Chaos and Creation in the Backyard, let's pass the Brit-torch to the young man James Blunt.
Where's the love?: T.H., baby! Taylor Hicks definitely makes me proud to be a member of the Soul Patrol. Wait a minute — what the heck am I saying? See what happens when the vodka kicks in?
Best Pop Vocal Album Back to Basics (Christina Aguilera) Back to Bedlam (James Blunt) The River in Reverse (Elvis Costello & Allen Toussaint) Continuum (John Mayer) FutureSex/LoveSounds (Justin Timberlake)
Should win: Elvis Costello and Justin Timberlake in the same category: who would have thunk it? The River in Reverse really isn't a pop record, but if they're going to nominate it, then by goodness it should win.
Will win: Conventional wisdom says album of the year is also pop vocal album of the year, so John Mayer should get this one as well.
Where's the love?: Sweet Caroline! How about the most surprising CD of the year — the amazingly tuneful 12 Songs by Neil Diamond? Rick Rubin did wonders with Neil in 2006.
Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance "Nausea" (Beck) "Someday Baby" (Bob Dylan) "Route 66" (John Mayer) "Saving Grace" (Tom Petty) "Lookin' for a Leader" (Neil Young)
Should win: Haven't the old men — er, veteran rockers — already won by having three nominations? I dare you to listen to "Saving Grace" and not play the old bluesy air-guitar with me.
Will win: Unfortunately Dylan trumps Petty, though this tune is no "Rainy Day Women."
Where's the love?: Who am I to suggest someone should have been nominated over the who's who of rock music listed above?
Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal "Talk" (Coldplay) "How to Save a Life" (The Fray) "Steady, As She Goes" (The Raconteurs) "Dani California" (Red Hot Chili Peppers) "The Saints Are Coming" (U2 & Green Day)
Should win: The Raconteurs are so good, it's a wonder why media darling Jack White (The White Stripes) and bud Brendan Benson didn't get together sooner.
Will win: The emotional moment that occurred when U2 and Green Day played "The Saints Are Coming" at the reopening of the Superdome was something that will stick in many people's minds forever. It's not the best song of the group, but the Grammys will award the song's significance more than the song itself.
Where's the love?: Butch Walker doesn't get nearly enough credit. He's a prolific producer and, when he can pry himself away from the board for a minute, creates head-bobbin' rock music. Glam it up with "Hot Girls in Good Moods" from The Rise and Fall of Butch Walker and the Let's-Go-Out-Tonites.
Best Hard Rock Performance "Crazy b***h" (Buckcherry) "Every Day Is Exactly the Same" (Nine Inch Nails) "Lonely Day" (System of a Down) "Vicarious" (Tool) "Woman" (Wolfmother)
Should win: "Crazy b***h" is the best rock song of the year, hands down. No other song even comes close.
Will win: Of course I don't get a vote, so Buckcherry really doesn't have much of a shot against these heavyweights. Trent Reznor is a god among rockers, and I will have no complaints when Nine Inch Nails walk away winners.
Where's the love?: Absolutely no sign of Nickelback leads me to believe the Grammys got this one right. This is the strongest category of all 108 (!). And yes, I even glanced at Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package to make sure I could say that with confidence. Keep this name in mind for the future, though: Sahg! This Norwegian band's first single, "Godless Faith," is an absolutely monstrous rock masterpiece.
Best Metal Performance "Redneck" (Lamb of God) "Colony of Birchmen" (Mastodon) "Lies, Lies, Lies" (Ministry) "Eyes of the Insane" (Slayer) "30/30-150" (Stone Sour)
Should win: Here's wishing Slayer wins for no other reason than to see the camera pan to Carrie Underwood's reaction after singer Tom Araya says, "I'd like to thank the Academy and Satan."
Will win: I hope that if someone unfamiliar with metal is presenting the award, they are taught how to pronounce the Stone Sour track. Thirty divided by 30 minus 150 is just not right.
Where's the love?: I'm sure they'd spit on me for even suggesting it, but after 20 years of setting the bar extremely high, Napalm Death put out their most accessible track to date, with "When All Is Said and Done" from the great Smear Campaign.
Best Rock Album Try! (John Mayer Trio) Highway Companion (Tom Petty) Broken Boy Soldiers (The Raconteurs) Stadium Arcadium (Red Hot Chili Peppers) Living with War (Neil Young)
Should win: Tough one. Living with War is Young's best album in a long time, but its anti-war, anti-Bush message didn't quite cause the stir he expected. Any of the others could really win.
Will win: Rock, funk, pop… the Chili Peppers are so versatile and creative that you have to award them for something. So here it is. The x-factor, though, is Try!, which is a blues record completely out of place in this category and an opportunity for the Grammys to make their annual gaffe.
Where's the love?: Now that they've almost completely ditched the rapping, Papa Roach have become a decent rock act. The Paramour Sessions may not reinvent the wheel, but it certainly puts a little fire in your step.
Best Alternative Music Album Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not (Arctic Monkeys) At War with the Mystics (The Flaming Lips) St. Elsewhere (Gnarls Barkley) Show Your Bones (Yeah Yeah Yeahs) The Eraser (Thom Yorke)
Should win: Thom Yorke's trip outside the confines of Radiohead didn't sell as well as expected in the U.S., but this excursion into melodic electronic tracks is what Kid A should have been.
Will win: Gnarls Barkley just cannot get shut out. Look for them to take best alternative album, though they are really just being rewarded for one great song.
Where's the love?: With songs like "Tent in Your Pants" and "Two Guys (for Every Girl)," Peaches might just be a little (who am I kidding — a lot!) too sexual for most Grammy voters, but she's one of the most innovative artists currently creating music.
Best Female R&B Vocal Performance "Ring the Alarm" (Beyoncé) "Be Without You" (Mary J. Blige) "Don't Forget About Us" (Mariah Carey) "Day Dreaming" (Natalie Cole) "I Am Not My Hair" (India.Arie)
Should win: "I Am Not My Hair" is the most underplayed song of the year. India.Arie deserves to have the career of Mariah or Mary.
Will win: This is the finest year of Mary J. Blige's career. There's no way she exits the proceedings without an award.
Where's the love?: 2006 was a low point for R&B, hence the reason Mariah is still getting love. The rest of the ladies must have decided that they couldn't compete with Mary or Beyoncé, because there isn't another song that deserves the award.
Best Male R&B Vocal Performance "Heaven" (John Legend) "So Sick" (Ne-Yo) "Black Sweat" (Prince) "I Call It Love" (Lionel Richie) "Got You Home" (Luther Vandross)
Should win: I'm working up a sweat just thinking about the smooth funk of the purple one. Prince is making some of the best music of his career, close to three decades into it.
Will win: I actually think the Grammys will agree with me on this one. John Legend will be tough to beat, but they should shower Prince with awards before he changes musical directions yet again.
Where's the love?: Van Hunt's style has been compared to Sly Stone, Rick James and the purple wonder himself. If Prince ever decides to remove himself from the game, Van Hunt's the guy to pimp out the R&B world again.
Best R&B Album The Breakthrough (Mary J. Blige) Unpredictable (Jamie Foxx) Testimony: Vol. 1, Life & Relationship (India.Arie) 3121 (Prince) Coming Home (Lionel Richie)
Should win: His name is Prince, and he is funky. Go ahead and listen to 3121; then backtrack to 1992's The Love Symbol Album and 1983's 1999 disc and compare. Don't you just love them all? So few artists can make great music over three decades.
Will win: Hype outweighs quality in this case. The award will go to Jamie Foxx, though if you actually listen to the record beyond the title track, you'll find it to be quite predictable after all.
Where's the love?: Lionel Richie would tell you that The Phoenix by Lyfe Jennings was the best R&B record of the year.
Best Rap Album Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor (Lupe Fiasco) Release Therapy (Ludacris) In My Mind (Pharrell) Game Theory (The Roots) King (T.I.)
Should win: T.I. brings a fresh voice and addictive new sound to the rap world. Hopefully he'll have a few more chances to win in the years to come.
Will win: Thinking man's rap is well represented here. Though The Roots have more experience, the clever rhymes of newcomer Lupe Fiasco will have him celebrating with a little "food & liquor" well into the morning.
Where's the love?: Let's shake things up and finally get The Streets in here. Brit-rapper Mike Skinner has made three creative and critically acclaimed albums but gets little love in the U.S.
Best Country Album Taking the Long Way (Dixie Chicks) Like Red on a Rose (Alan Jackson) The Road to Here (Little Big Town) You Don't Know Me: The Songs of Cindy Walker (Willie Nelson) Your Man (Josh Turner)
Should win: Little Big Town busted out this year: The Road to Here is the best album, compared to the other four uneven discs.
Will win: Traditional country is well-represented and should prevail. The Dixie Chicks certainly have an excellent chance, but Willie Nelson gets the natural high from a victory.
Where's the love?: How about Rascal Flatts, or maybe Keith Urban? Both of their albums should be here over the Alan Jackson recording.
Best Comedy Album Blue Collar Comedy Tour — One for the Road (The Blue Collar Comedy Tour) The Carnegie Hall Performance (Lewis Black) Life Is Worth Losing (George Carlin) Straight Outta Lynwood ("Weird Al" Yankovic) You Can't Fix Stupid (Ron White)
Should win: "Weird Al!" He's whiter than sour cream and may be the greatest musical parodist ever.
Will win: "Weird Al" Yankovic, hands down. He's funny, clever and well-respected in the industry. And he's a decent rapper. Imagine that.
Where's the love?: Although musical comedy begins and ends with Yankovic in my book, there's nothing quite like a song with a chorus that points out what people in the know have realized for years: Bob Saget is the "illest motherf----- in a cardigan sweater." You certainly are Blowin' Up, Mr. Jamie Kennedy.

Is it me or there's no buzz for this years Grammys? I really haven't heard anyone talking about them besides on message board and even so, the discussion isn't even all that. Last year, this thread would've been on page 60 or something.

so basically no one (in the media) is rooting for Imogen. Im pissed at EW, they said Imogen (and Corinne) were "not well known enough" to win. When does that have anything to do with it? Album sales sometimes dont mean a thing and just because Imogen is well known enough, she shouldnt win? She Should win, shes the best in the new Artist category!

She'll well known, people just don't know it. LOL
I was going to reply to say something similar. It's sad that Imogen seems to be the last on all the predictors lists and even more sad that she's last on the list of what people think *should* win. I really hope she does win because it'll probably be fairly big news. I bet a lot of people would be mad though if she did...!

so basically no one (in the media) is rooting for Imogen. Im pissed at EW, they said Imogen (and Corinne) were "not well known enough" to win. When does that have anything to do with it? Album sales sometimes dont mean a thing and just because Imogen is well known enough, she shouldnt win? She Should win, shes the best in the new Artist category! In fairness to EW, I believe the "not well known enough" comment was made to explain why the magazine is predicting that Heap and Rae won't win, not why they shouldn't win. Although EW did (surprisingly) give the nod to Carrie as the one who should win BNA. I think many in the media are still trying to figure out why Imogen Heap is in the BNA category in the first place; they don't consider her new. That coupled with the widespread belief that she doesn't stand a chance of actually winning (unfortunately) is probably why there isn't a groundswell of critical "wouldn't it be neat if she won?" As for the buzz or lack thereof on the Grammys, I think it depends a bit on where you look. One thing that is different this year is that no one with a major presence on the Top-40 format is a strong contender for any of the 4 major categories. Yes, Justin Timberlake is nominated for Album of the Year, but the buzz is that the race for the win is really between the other nominees, particularly the Dixie Chicks and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Chris Brown doesn't stand a chance in BNA, where the race looks to be between Corinne Bailey Rae, Carrie Underwood and James Blunt. Mary J. Blige may be nominated for Song and Record of the Year, but she hasn't been a presence on the Top-40 chart in a while (and it'll be an upset if "Be Without You" wins either category). Personally, based on the performers' lineup and the nominees, this is the most excited I've been about a Grammy Awards show in a while. And there could be some pretty interesting storylines coming out of the Grammys depending on who wins.

I wish Akon would win, but of course the Justin Timberlake/T.I. song will win.
At least it was nominated!

MJB hasn't had a #1 pop hit since last Winter but wasn't she the biggest winner at the Billboard Awards? Additionally, Justin (biggest star on the planet) is up for AOY and 3 others, RHCP is undoubrtably very mainstream, Gnarls Barkley's Crazy was everywhere, You're Beautiful was a huge hit, Carrie has the biggest album of the Year, Chris Brown is the Billboard Artist of the Year and besides Imogen Heap, there really aren't any way left-field nominees in the major categories. Add minor nods for Hips Dont Lie, Promiscuous, Beyonce, Christina Aguilera, TI, Yung Joc, Chamillionaire, Neyo, Bad Day, Unwritten, Pussycat Dolls, BEP, The Fray and others, the Grammys have definitely included major top 40 artists.

erfrank, I was talking specifically about the Top-40 format (i.e., CHR/Pop), not about whether the nominated/performing artists are mainstream. The artists getting the most traffic on this board tend to be Top-40 (i.e., CHR/Pop) fixtures, and so, given the major category nominees and the buzz on who will win them, it's not terribly surprising that buzz about the Grammy Awards ceremony might not be overwhelming on this board at the moment. Last year, Mariah Carey, Gwen Stefani and Kanye West went into the Grammy ceremony as some of the most-nominated artists and this year's most nominated major category artists didn't have the CHR/Pop presence that they did. Mind you, I'm not a CHR/Pop listener these days (think the playlists are dull, etc.) -- I'm just pointing out a difference that I think may account for the difference in Grammy buzz on this board.
And to be clear, I also don't mean to say that this board ignores artists who aren't Top-40 fixtures, because that's definitely not the case. It's just that Top-40/CHR/Pop artists seem to draw more discussion here.
In any case, you won't find me equating Top-40/CHR/Pop format exposure with being mainstream. :) I would argue that Top-40 has become a niche format (but maybe in another thread where the subject isn't so off-topic). There are, as your summary suggests, many ways to demonstrate one's presence as a mainstream artist.

That's very true which makes nods for RHCP and Dixie Chicks irrelevent to pop listeners. Even still, I think the Grammy's included alot of top 40 stuff with Justin, James Blunt, Gnarls Barkley, Mary J Blige, Christina, Beyonce etc.

I can't believe I'm actually getting pretty excited about seeing this show. Most of the award type shows aren't really very good any more. But this one is listing a lot of people who I do enjoy and think are quite good. Some singers are really getting some TV coverage in primetime shows lately too. That should help quite a bit. I saw John Legend, Jewel (even though she's not on here), Corinne, all recently in various shows. Really good marketing to get them into non-music TV shows as celebrity appearances at shows, events, etc. Management is really starting to make some good decisions on getting exposure for their artists. Looking forward to seeing the Police reunion too. Lots of the performers listed have some really good stuff out now that is enjoyable.

We need some more performances! Why haven't any been added? Like every other day last year there was performances
