For those of you think that this is really unbalanced, consider that females usually have longer runs @ #1 on my chart.

Ever since I've gotton into music, females have always dominated my Top 10 but lately, for both of my charts, I've noticed that males are making a first-time comeback. Michael's Top 40, my chart based on songs I own on CD, has a half-n-half in the Top 10, while 7 of the Top 10 songs on The Max are by male vocalists.
This year: males - 6 females - 5 co-ed - 2
In total: male - 21 female - 61 co-ed - 10
In terms of weeks for this year thus far: male - 29 weeks female - 10 weeks co-ed - 3 weeks

I'll just do this year for now because as it is I'm procrastinating right now... but I seriously am tired of studying Male: 6 (Bon Jovi, Coldplay, Red Hot Chili Peppers, matchbox twenty, Santana/Alex Band, Live) Female: 4 (Aaliyah, TLC, Jewel, Liz Phair) Co-ed: 1 (Fabolous & Tamia) I'm 90% certain Sarah McLachlan will be my #1 next week which will give Team Female 5.

I wonder if people are forgetting that the Black Eyed Peas are actually a co-ed group.

MALE (8) (15 weeks total)
311 - Creatures (For Awhile) [2 weeks] The Ataris - Boys of Summer [2 weeks] Audioslave - Like a Stone [2 weeks] Linkin Park - Faint [1 week] Linkin Park - Somewhere I Belong [1 week] Jason Mraz - The Remedy (I Won't Worry) [1 week] Matchbox Twenty - Unwell [2 weeks] Nickelback - Someday [4 weeks +]
FEMALE (4) (15 weeks total)
Aaliyah - Miss You [1 week] Beyonce / Jay-Z - Crazy In Love [1 week] Michelle Branch - Are You Happy Now? [4 weeks] Dixie Chicks - Landslide [9 weeks]
CO-ED (3) (11 weeks total)
Black Eyed Peas - Where Is the Love? [3 weeks] Evanescence - Bring Me to Life [7 weeks] Kid Rock / Sheryl Crow - Picture [1 week]
As far as the group with most #1's, males lead the pack with twice as many as females. But, the number of weeks for all groups is fairly evenly distributed.

Tally for this year:
Male 5 (Will Young, Daniel Bedingfield, Wilfred Le Bouthillier and David Sneddon x 2) for 27 weeks total
Female 2 (Dixie Chicks & Madonna) for 4 weeks
Co-ed 6 (Ace of Base, Gareth Gates f/the Kumars, Ronan Keating & Cecilia Cara, Richard X vs. Liberty X, Beyoncé f/Jay-Z, & Liberty X) for 12 weeks total.
By far, males are dominating my charts this past year. In previous years, it was generally females who were on top...

I counted based on songs, not on artists. So, for example, Christina Aguilera did not get just one count, she got four, because she had four #1's. Male: 6Female: 28Co-ed: 4

Hella sexist! >:( Well, 2004 had "White Houses" and more! Currently, possible female number ones are The Wreckers, Hollaback Girl..and if released: Private Radio.

Here's my breakdown of songs from the past 27 months (since the start of 2003 when my #1 tabulations began):
33 #1 songs by males/all-male groups 1 #1 song by a female ("Don't Tell Me" - Avril Lavigne) 0 songs by co-ed groups
I don't know why, but I just haven't been drawn to female songs in a while, as evidenced by my very sexist stats. I do like female songs, but in the last 2 years I just haven't been attracted to too many.

This Year Male-7 Female-1 Coed- 1 :o Men are rocking it this year. Damn! Jem is the solitary female to top my chart this year. Straylight Run is the coed. This year, male lead alternative or rock bands/people have been dominating.
Last Year Male-4 Female-12 Coed-2
The men have already beat their overall number last year :o This is really interesting. I was so female heavy last year and this year...even looking further down my chart, the men are rocking it. I see three very potential #1s for men in the upcoming month or two and only one female.
Overall Male-11 Female-13 Coed-3

2004:
Male: 9 (Baby Bash - Nek- Tiziano Ferro - Blink 182 - Usher - 311 - Usher - Maroon 5 - Green Day) Female: 5 (Alicia - Britney - Nelly Furtado - Alicia - Sarah McLachlan) Co-ed: 4 (Sean Paul/Sasha - Evanescence - Alicia/Toni Tony Tone - Usher/Alicia)
2005 (so far): Male: 2 (The Killers - Rob Thomas) Female: 1 (Mariah) Co-ed: 0
2005 is shaping up to be a year where The Killers, Mariah, DMB, and Rob Thomas flip-flop #1's, so males should dominate this year. The only non-Mariah #1 I can foresee is if Gwen smartens up and releases "Cool" next.
