Yeah, while everyone's doing their top lists right now, I'll change things up a bit and start up my worst list. This was a chart that I did not get around to creating in 2003 due to lack of selection. While 2004 was a very good year in music, there still was plenty of truly horrible songs to go around.
I now present the worst 46 songs of 2004, that I've heard. These are based not merely upon my opinion, but fact as well.
46½. I've never heard this song, so technically I can't include it in the top 46, but as much as I disrespect her status as a musician, and as impossibly overrated her appearance is, I've given up any possibility for open-mindedness and just all but guaranteeing the song would be on the list if I had heard it. Lindsay Lohan - Rumors [BlahBlahBlah]
46. Disappointing single by an artist I very much like, attempting to explain the reasoning behind a career move. Gwen Stefani - What You Waiting For [Love Plastic Love]
45. Biggest hit so far for an artist whose album has been bought by over two million soccer moms. Clay Aiken - Invisible [Matt4319]
44. Ridiculously huge smash hit by an ex-rapper; definitive evidence that repetition is the key to pop success. Nelly (featuring Tim Mcgraw) - Over And Over [Matt4319]
43. A singer songwriter who rode critical acclaim to his first three hits, and absolute pretense to this song, said artist's latest. John Mayer - Daughters [Matt4319]
42. Highly acclaimed singer-songwriter semi-covering a song with good intentions, but with disasterous results. Joss Stone - Fell In Love With A Boy [halo20]
41. A cover by a normally reliable artist who, in this song, tries way too hard to sound like a teenager after she's had like 50 years to figure out that she's past that. Sheryl Crow - First Cut Is The Deepest [halo20]
40. Totally indescript and pointless track from a 38-year old singer, which is seemingly played hourly at Lowe's; the only place I've ever heard it. 39. Self-empowering ballad from an artist who is such a non-stranger to lists like this one that this is actually one of the best songs in which this artist has been involved. Beyonce - Me, Myself, & I [BlahBlahBlah]
38. Song whose title and lyrics were edited to remove 100% of its meaning, and add 100% of its appeal. The Black-Eyed Peas - Let's Get It Started [BlahBlahBlah]

46½. Jessica Simpson - "Angels" 45. Liz Phair - "Why Can't I?" 44. Nelly featuring Tim McGraw - "Over and Over" 43. John Mayer - "Daughters" 39. Christina Aguilera - "The Voice Within"

I'm not a fan of "Breathe", but it wasn't quite bad enough to make the list.
One of The Wannabe DJ's guesses is part of this initial round, but none were in the right position.
Look for "Angels" and "My Prerogative" later on.

Blahblahblah was right on #39, as was Love Plastic Love on #46.
Updating the remaining clues:
45. Biggest hit so far for an artist whose album has been bought by over two million soccer moms. It's a 26-year old singer born in Raleigh, NC. Clay Aiken - Invisible [Matt4319]
40. Totally indescript and pointless track from a 38-year old singer, which is seemingly played hourly at Lowe's; the only place I've ever heard it. Lowe's plays a compilation of AC music (which boggles my mind because if one hires a contractor to do any of the work that you'd buy the supplies for to do yourself at the store, they'd listen to rock and classic rock 10 times out of 10). I guess you could say crossed over to AC from another format. Martina McBride - This One's For The Girls [Nicholas2.0]
And the next line of clues:
37. A lightweight, laughable song with lyrics specifically for pop and a title most likely designed to save rock spins. Nickelback - Feelin' Way Too Damn Good [Nicholas2.0]
36. A second attempt in this artist's career at creating a sappy love song when he's the absolute last person I'd select to perform such a song.
35. Song by an artist who always fails to stay true to himself just to have at least one smash hit per album, usually after it looks like his career is in the dumpster. Finally, it did not work this time.
34. Rapper from Houston perfectly emulating the disposable 2000's hip-hop formula where he raps the verses while some girl sings some sappy garbage for the choruses. Lil' Flip - Sunshine [Matt4319]
33. 2 overexposed megastars performing a relative flop, with a nice beat, but way too much stupidity to be listenable. Nelly & Christina Aguilera - Tilt Ya Head Back [The Wannabe DJ]
32. "Poke it out like your back broke"? What the f*** kind of analogy is that! Christina Milian - Dip It Low [Matt4319]
31. Half of an absolutely ridiculous and insulting staged feud. Eamon - F*** It (I Don't Want You Back) [Matt4319]
30. Band who rode pure novelty to success in 2003 attempts to gain credibility in 2004 by following every cliché about responding to lack of acceptance in the book, starting with this song. Simple Plan - Welcome To My Life [The Wannabe DJ]
29. A track with some impressive, articulate, runaway-train rapping, but with one of the most truly obnoxious choruses I've ever heard. Twista (featuring Kayne West) - Slow Jamz [Matt4319]

Nick gets #40 & 37 (and on the right track with #35) The Wannabe DJ gets #33 and 30.
And that leaves 36 and 35 (but my hint should close that one out soon enough...)
#36. The reason he sounds so out of place is because he's trying to perform some sweet, emotional song with a voice that sounds like he's fit to be murdering people.

That's still not it. I thought the song I'm looking for was a single...
Round three is being worked on right now.

I haven't forgotten, it's just that I'm at the busiest time of year at work right now, and I haven't had enough time to make these new clues. I will get a move on this sometime, though.
Halo was also correct on #35, btw.
