That it is!
6) This song started out the year on top of the chart, the very same way that another song by the same artist started out 2003. The song from 2003 also went to #1 on the Pop chart, but the 2004 one didn't quite make it to the Top Ten.

That is also correct.
5) This may be a stumper, since I don't believe this song even made the Christian AC chart (it did, however, make the WFRN chart). This is a male artist who has an album due out on January 25 of this year. His last album, which was released in early 2003, spawned this song, which went to #1 on my chart during the summer. This song is one of several on the album that shows his gratitude to Jesus for dying for our sins.

BINGO!!
4) Early in 2004, this song looked like it might have been the second number one song for this band whose debut single in 2003 was their first. This song, however, petered out at #2.

Yep!
3) CS: This song should have gotten a lot more airplay this year, what with all the troops being shipped overseas.

Very good!
2) A case in which I think the remake was better than the original. The song was originally done by one of the biggest AC artists ever.

Yes it was, back at #24.
Sort of weird that you'd guess Wilson Phillps, as they've covered this artist before as well.

D'OH! I even looked at GYOW at #24 and didn't think about it when it came time to guess.
"Buy Me A Rose" was a good guess, nice one JCM.

Nope, wasn't "Buy Me A Rose", neither.
The song was one of this artist's first hits, and it just missed hitting the Top 40 on the Pop chart.

Wow, I knew Jessica did a lot of remakes this year, but she did this one already! ;) Yeah, wasn't there a new version that came out in 2004 that sounded a lot like the original, only the chord progressions were slightly different? It sounded a lot like Jessica Simpson to me. ;) In 2003, on my personal chart, the year-end number one song was "I Showed Her" by O-Town. Who will be number one for 2004? We're only one song away from the answer, as the countdown rolls on.

OK baby steps...
I know Wilson Phillips have covered The Eagles and Linda Ronstadt. Are either of those two artists the original artist for the song in question?

Nope.
Those two cover versions were from this past year. The one I'm thinking of is longer ago than that. Keep in mind: The Wilson Phillips cover is not the song in question.
Wow, I thought that the Scott Krippayne song was gonna be the stumper!

2. Clay Aiken - "Solitaire"? This is did not even make the pop chart, let alone barely make the top 40...

This is did not even make the pop chart, let alone barely make the top 40... Guess I'm wrong. I thought it did get some pop airplay. I just based this on Neil Sadaka being a big artist on the AC charts before our time.

Normally I might be able to get this one based on the "just missed the Pop Top 40" clue, thanks to the statistics I have from the AC Top 50. But I'm at a complete loss on this one. Seems like something's not adding up here. The only thing I can think of that is even remotely close is: 2. Hilary & Haylie Duff - Our Lips Are Sealed (except this DID make the Top 40; it spent a week at #39) So either this is actually right or some other song is a cover that I didn't know was a cover.

Something's not adding up, because the chart I was talking about on which the song "just missed the Top 40" is the Hot 100. And the song that "just missed the Top 40" was the original song (which charted longer ago than some of us have been alive). The remake charted at AC radio in early 2004.

You should've made all this clear sooner. Although you did throw us off with that second clue, because you did clearly say it missed the Top 40 on the POP chart. But needless to say, now I have no idea what this could be.

OK, let's put all the clues together, with clarification on some that I should have in the first place:
2) The song is a remake, which I think is slightly better than the original, which was done by one of AC's biggest artists of all time. Wilson Phillips have covered this artist at least once, back in the 1990s. The original just missed the Top 40 on the Hot 100 back in the 1970s. The remake of the song charted at AC radio in early 2004.
An additional clue: The song "All Along" by Blessid Union Of Souls sounds similar to the song in question. I know that pretty much gives it away, but I think I've kept this going for long enough, right? :)

2. Tim McGraw - Tiny Dancer (Wilson Phillips did a cover of "Daniel" if my memory serves me correctly)

Well, I'll be damned. At long last someone got it.
Now for the top song of all of 2004:
(Drumroll please)
1) CS: This song, sung from God's perspective, is a song that reminds us that He is omnipresent. Jeffster will probably groan when he figures out what topped my chart for the year. In fact, since he's chimed in every now and again, he has probably been dreading this all along, since he does not like this song at all.

I knew this one once you put the clue for #2.

Yes, indeed, "Leaving 99" was my top song of 2004.
Man, when I first heard that song on February 14 of last year (the week it debuted at #7 on "20: The Countdown Magazine"), I knew it was going to be one of my favorite songs of 2004, but I had no idea that it would come out on top!
BTW, JCMF3, how did you know this would be #1 after I put my clue for the #2 song?

BTW, JCMF3, how did you know this would be #1 after I put my clue for the #2 song? I knew that two of your top songs of the year were Letters From War and Leaving 99. You talked about those two songs a lot. Plus, on your chart, Leaving 99 spent a long time at #2 and fell off only in the last 3 months I think. So, when Letters of War was #3 and then you put the clue for #2 and it wasn't a CS song, I knew Leaving 99 was #1. :)
