Ok here's my dilemmia. I can not figure out which song to put at number one on my personal chart. There is a virtual tie for the spot. But I can not have two number ones. So I have to make a decision but I just can't pick. What should I do ? I can say that one of the songs is/was the current #1 and the other is an up and coming song. What would you guys do ???

I don't have ties, but you can flip a coin.

I don't have ties, but you can flip a coin. Well I base my chart on airplay and if I were to go solely on that there would be a tie

Well, since it's your personal chart, go with the song that you like slightly better. If you can't decide, then go with the song that's higher on the national charts.

Just go in alphabetical order if you must.

Go with the song that had the greatest point increase (or smallest point decrease).

I use a point-based chart, so this will come up often.
Usually, the case is a #1 who had been there for several weeks versus the one seeking to take over. In that case, if the challenger is likely to have multiple weeks on top ahead of him/her, I give it to them right then and there. But if the challenger is instead closer to a "placeholder" who is holding #1 until a stronger song gets there, then I don't give it to him/her.
Of course, there was one time that I refused to break the tie and instead had two #1s. That was the chart for October 5, 2002 - the two #1s were "Ordinary Day" and "Objection (Tango)".

You need a system set up and use it consistantly regardless of what you want to happen if your chart is pointbased. Mediabase breaks ties by greatest increase.

I decided the tie goes to the song alreadyat #1. So "Solider" spends a 10th consecutive week at #1

What do you do if there is a tie? I complement it with a suit.

If I have a tie I'll give it to the greatest gainer. Usually that tends to be the song that's not already #1 on my chart. That way more songs I like get a shot at an official #1 on my chart. I like to spread the love.

Then I'd choose the song that has the best video. :)

So "Solider" spends a 10th consecutive week at #1 I complement it with a suit. I would definitely sue if "Soldier" spent 10 weeks at #1 on any chart.

this might help. I had the same problem. It happened a few months ago. I had a problem picking between JoJo Leave (Get Out) and Ashlee simpson Pieces of Me I littery couldn't dicide what to put at No.1 right before posting it to my website. I at last moment picked Ashlee. This might help you can always put a song back on top after it falls out of No.1. Thats what happend to Jo Jo she went back for a 9th week at No.1. My chart is based on radio airplay. I will say this later I regretted putting Ashlee on top If I could do it again, I would have kept Jo Jo on top. Hope this helps Pat Buchanan Pats Top 40 :)
