Since everyone's chart is different (position capacity-wise), what equates to a "flop" on your personal chart? Or is there no such thing at all?
I only have a top 21 chart, so it's really hard for me to say a song that peaks at #16 or #20 is a FLOP, because it's a top 20 position, you know? So, I don't think I really consider any song that actually makes my chart a flop. A song that peaks low could be called an 'underperforming track', though. But if something doesn't chart; that's what I'd call a flop.

It's all relative. If it charts, it's not a flop because I absolutely like it. It depends on the artist and their chart history.

However, an artist's 3rd or 4th single may way underperform their first several songs, which I guess could be a kind of flop. Or perhaps songs I liked right away and went really high really fast...then basically dropped off.

I'm also in the "if I didn't like it, I wouldn't chart it camp". But within the bounds of my chart (which is a top 20), I would consider a song that only spent a few weeks on and never got above around 15 to be a "flop". In the greater scheme, it's probably more a minor hit than a flop though, since it charted at all.

Yeah i agree with everyone if it doesn't chart it's a flop because i wouldn't chart it if i didn't like it. but if its on my chart i'd have to 15-20 is a flop. I mean Kelly Clarksons "Since U Been Gone", Alicia Keys "Karma" and Kylie Minogue's "I Believe In You" all only spent 1 week on my chart and all below # 15, but thats only because i heard them for a zillion times before i started my chart

I consider a song to be a flop that... 1. ...misses the top 100 completely. 2. ...falls short of expectations for the established artist.
If it's a brand new artist or an artist that hasn't really had a lot of top 40 success, a song that is charted is good enough to avoid "flopdom." However, if it's an artist that has pulled off a couple consecutive top 10 hits and the next song misses the top 40 or worse, it's more or less considered a flop.

Ditto to "it's all relative." Just like with any official chart, being classified a "hit" or a "flop" depends on the artist's previous achievements in relation to my chart. An artist who had several top ten hits consecutively, and their next song peaks below #20 (out of 30 positions now), it can be fairly considered a flop.
However, it really doesn't matter to me, cause if a song charts at all, I have to at least somewhat like it.

Avril Lavigne flopped with 'Skater Boy' when it only made #53 on my chart. However, ....... I can't think of an example off hand but some artists have peaked in the high 50s that I would call smaller hits for me. I wouldn't call anything that doesn't make my Top 50 a big hit but it is all relative.

Generally, a flop on a top 20 chart for me is when a song peaks below #15, or is on for three weeks or less. Songs that follow these criterion tend to be fillers songs, or fast burn-out songs.
Also, if a song peaks relatively high but then has an increidible fall off the chart, such was the case with Good Charlotte's "I Just Wanna Live" which peaked at #5 but then tumbled to #19 the next week, these I consider flops too.

Any 1-weekers, since that means I liked it for under a week.

Since I have a top twenty chart,I would say songs that peak at around #18/#19 on the chart would be flops or songs that don't last over three weeks on the chart.

I'm guessing that if it charted at all, it wouldn't be a flop for you or your chart. But then again, I probably won't ever chart "Obsession (No Es Amor)", even though I don't dislike it. Would I count that as a flop? Hmm, I guess so, since I didn't dislike it but it didn't chart (or won't anytime soon). Wow, I just confused myself. *brain diarrhea*

Hmm...if you're below the top 20 and haven't broken 100 points, then that's a flop. I consider songs within the 100-300 point range to be minor hits, and then 300+ is a hit. If you're over 500, you're huge.
