The general public does not think like this. Generally, if an artist is in the top 40 and has about the average longevity its a hit. Only the critics make the distinction of ohhh it must be a flop because every their 6th song only went to #9 when their last 5 songs went to #1. No...to the general public it really depends where you live. Our stations played the holy hell out of TVW and I saw it on Vh1 and mtv once a night, at least. If I had NO access to the charts, I would think it was a mega super hit...probably larger than Chud and maybe Fighter. But I know across the country, the song didnt get that much loving and it obviously was not a super mega hit. But the general public's perceptions of hits is probably different than what ours is.

I know exactly what you mean. If I didn't follow the charts, I would have thought that Blu Cantrell's Breathe was a top 5 smash from how often Z100 played it
