Let me start off by saying, I am tone deaf, so I am at a disadvantage when discussing voices. ![:-[](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/embarrassed.png) But, I am wondering which female pop singers have the best voices? Also, how would you rank the top singers and why? My tone deaf rankings: Whitney Houston - She seems to have the most power and can control her voice well. Celine Dion - Can hold notes forever and also has great control. Mariah Carey - Amazing range LeAnn Rimes - Powerful voice and ability to hold notes Kelly Clarkson - Powerful voice Faith Hill Carrie Underwood Beyonce Christina Aguilera Alicia Keys Artists that I enjoy but am not sure of their vocal capability (Do any of these singers have good vocal ranges?): Fiona Apple Tori Amos Sarah McLachlan Shakira - Yes, 90% of the population hates her voice, however, I am not sure if it's because she has a bad voice or if people hate how she uses it (too much vibrato)? Thoughts ???

I LOVE Shakira's voice. It's really unique, she has good range and is always amazing life. Yeah, it can be annoying at times but I just love it.

I think vocal range is highly overrated. So what if you can screach at a high or low pitch. It's how the voice is used that matters. I don't think Beyoncé uses hers very well anymore as she screams and ad libs really too much. Jessica Simpson is HORRIBLE!

I always liked it too, so it's nice to see I'm not alone. And I've never heard a JoJo song before, I don't even think I know who she is, so I didn't intentionally leave her off the list. As for P!nk, where would you put her on the list?

My list is a little bit biased towards singers I like best ![](http://yoursmiles.org/ssmile/fun/s0244.gif) (But then again, whose somewhat isn't? lol). Here's a top 5: 1. Mariah Carey - Vocal powerhouse, Mariah is the complete package. 2. LeAnn Rimes - Incredible talent, amazing control over her voice, strong notes. 3. Tina Arena - Stunning voice. Amazing control, great tone and pure voice, can hold notes forever too. 4. Anastacia - Unique voice, Strong and powerful voice. 5. Christina Aguilera - Strong voice, can belt really loud.

A good singer does not have to belt and growl all the time. In fact, I consider some less "powerful" singers to be much better at interpreting songs than the Mariahs and Whitneys.

Mariah deffinatley, she may not sound as good as she used to (Though the Grammy's performance was knock-out)....but in her hay-day.....she epitimised what a "great" voice should sound like......
I would argue that she's the greatest female vocalist of all time...but lets not start that chapter....

Best voice has to go to Janet.
Best singer despite having a flawed voice has to go to Mariah.

Carrie Underwood is by no means even close to being one of the best singers in pop.
Sarah McLachlan has an amazing voice and it's very powerful live. She has a very good range and unique tone.

Kelly Clarkson, Pink, Natasha Bedingfield, Joss Stone, Christina Aguilera
I left Faith Hill and LeAnn Rimes off because they're primarily country, but I would put them up there as well.

Anastacia has a great voice. Melanie C is talentless manufactured crap...If she wasn't, then why can't she sing live and why does she need to have her voice tone-corrected?

Mariah (even though her voice lost a bit of power, it's still the best today, imo) Whitney Celine Dion Christina Aguilera
As for country singers, LeAnn, Sara Evans, Martina, and Faith would be up there.
I must also mention Alanis. Her voice is one of my favorites because her voice conveys the meanings of her songs so well.
Kelly Clarkson's voice is also good, but I don't think she's as good as the four pop singers I mentioned above.

1. Mariah 2. Xtina 3. Tina Arena 4. Vanessa Williams 5. Celine Dion 6. Sarah MacLaughlin
Vanessa Williams voice is like butter. I can't think of anyone else who comes even close to my favourite six so I left it at them.
