I would love to hear suggestions on songs with something interesting to say or a cool message. I'm not looking for cheesy songs with a message of being a friend or dealing with your drama. That's already too common. I'm looking for more interesting issues. You know, songs addressing interesting real issues or showing strong opinions about different things. I have some already: - Dear Mr. President PINK - Not Ready To Make Nice DIXIE CHICKS - How Do You Do SHAKIRA - Malo BEBE
If you have other cool suggestions, I would love to hear about them. Thanks!!

I kind of think Beyonce's Irreplacable is intresting. It makes you think its a love song, but is anything but one. 3rd Eye Blind's Semi Charmed Life is actually about Crystal meth.

While I buy records for their music, not their lyrics, I have found that often my favorite artists have some of the best lyrics, too, and it really helps when the tone and emotion of the music matches the lyrics. I'd say in general, the best lyrics came from the '70's: and among the best were: Stevie Wonder, the Moody Blues, and Marvin Gaye. The Commodores had some, too. Among the many potent songs by Stevie, probably "Living In The City" was the most heart-wrenching; "Lost In A Lost World" is a great one by the Moody Blues; the whole What's Going On album by Marvin Gaye, including the title track; and I'd recommend listening to the beautiful "Zoom" by the Commodores. Both Stevie Wonder and the Commodores had distinct songs called "Visions", that were very powerful musically and lyrically. Gosh, Earth, Wind & Fire, War, the Tower of Power and so many others frequently put out songs with great lyrics as well as music.

Great idea for a discussion. :)
I immediately thought of Anna Nalick's "Breathe". I think the lyrics are very interesting and well done for such a young songwriter. The characters she paints come to life.
I also think John Mayer's "Waiting for the World" to change is very interesting lyrically.
I'll try to think of some others though. I'll be curious to read other people's opinions on this.

"Top of the World" by the Chicks is also a very interesting lyrical song.

Hmmm at this same moment 2 songs come to my head, and they are:
- Understand by Christina Aguilera - Irreplaceable by Beyoncé
They really tell us a story from back to back and give details over it, not just one sort of word being explained over and over, they really tell us something
But IMO, the song that has always been one that since the first time I've heard I have instantly stopped to see how it really says A LOT from begining to end is:
- 'Can't Take That Away (Mariah's Theme)' That song impresses me everytime I hear it still, it says something that really is a big big message!

I love Sufjan Stevens' "John Wayne Gacy, Jr" and "Casimir Pulaski Day". Especially JWG, which is very descriptive and haunting.

His songs are mostly great and gorgeously produced.

Well, I'd say,
A Perfect Circle - Thinking Of You Well acutally a lot of Lyrics written by MJK are very interesting but this one is special in a very banal way ;) John Lennon - Imagine Without an interesting tropic but still nice lyrics are NIN - Hurt even when I just read the lyrics they get me down, with music it rips me of from the inside ,when I'm in the right mood. Deftones - Around The Fur I hate nothing more than those fashion hipocrates out there. The lyrics sum up my thoughts perfectly.

Paris Hilton - Jealousy Brooke Hogan - Beautiful Transformation (Feat. Stack$) Jessica Simpson - I Belong To Me The Veronicas - Everything I'm Not
These 4 songs are held very dear to my heart, I love them and I will never stop listening to them!

Robyn - "Giving You Back" - her point of view on her abortion Lene Marlin - "Story" - since she doesn't tell people what her songs are about, I think it's about a person she knew's suicide. the song doesn't judge the person's decision. she sings about a song she wrote in the song, which i think is "Whatever It Takes."
