Pharrell - Number One
Loved it, so ahead of its time
Kelis - Blindfold Me
Come on, this song makes me instantly horny!
JoJo - Too Little, Too Late
I love a dramatic number!
Cassie - Long Way 2 Go and Me & U
She is by far my favorite album and song and I honestly love EVERY single track on her album including the 3 I added that didn't make the real LP. She cannot sing live I know this, who cares. I feel her and Ryan Leslie really have brought something new to the table of R&b and its amazing.
Danity Kane - No I hate showstopper, but despite that crumby single. I LOVE WANT IT, ONE SHOT, RIGHT THERE, OOHH AHH and many others THEY ROCK

Dixie Chicks: "Easy Silence" (With 2006 very much being a downbeat year socially and politically, I find this song absolutely anthemic in that the human heart can always weather and offer comfort to another in uncertain times like these, and this is a most unselfish love song.)
Gnarls Barkley: "Smiley Faces" (Most entertaining recording, with "Necromancer" an honorable mention as well.)
The New Pornographers: "These Are the Fables" ((A most lovely track that most quintessentially sums up the fantasy and power-pop pontifications this band so magically conjures. "Twin Cinema" is also one of this year's Top 10 Best albums.)
Scissor Sisters: "She's My Man": A track that epitomizes why the Scissor Sisters remain one of this century's most entertaining groups, while also maturing into more emotional themes as they hold true to their bell-bottom shaking beats.
Five For Fighting: "Two Lights": This is Ondrasik's best penned song to date, which captures beautifully the emotions of a father of a young soldier serving overseas, who hears that he might have been a tragic casualty of war, and goes off on a long drive to clear his head, hoping when he comes back that he is signaled two lights to indicate that he is still alive. Makes me cry every time I hear it, and while this all but certainly won't get airplay, it is one of the year's most overlooked, universal anthems related to love and loss.
Pink: "Long Time To Happy": (Another overlooked treasure that nonetheless epitomizes Pink's maturity as a songwriter and overall just maturing as a young woman. It takes great heart, courage and emotional strength to write out physical abuse like this, and thus Pink manages to write out a heartbreaking reflection on it that will easily make all listeners shed a tear and help other young women suffering from such abuse find inspiration to begin opening up and letting the long healing process begin.)
John Mayer: "Stop This Train": This basically takes off where "83" left off, reflecting on growing pains and coping with fading childhood memories. When you size this together with "83", it exemplies how Mayer has matured impressively as an artist, and it is no wonder why Mayer remains a popular voice that wins over many listeners.)
Train "All I Ever Wanted": (After a completely forgettable, disappointing third album "My Private Nation", Monahan has penned some of his best songs yet on "For Me, It's You" and this melancholy album opener is especially universal in theme in that you unselfishly feel Monahan express the pains of separation with a loved one, and you feel as though it's something you've recently experienced. Heartaching yet beautiful, making one of Monahan's most believable song to date. )
Franz Ferdinand: "Walk Away" (One of the most underrated singles of 2006 by far.)
*
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Here here! I love this song! One of my tops of the year, as well. I'll see when my yearend chart gets made.

This is a very tough call...
All things equal I'd probably have to say Natasha Bedingfield's "Unwritten" was probably the best pop song of the year though it's probably not going to be my #1 song of the year... "Far Away" by Nickelback, "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley, "You're Beautiful" by James Blunt, "Too Little Too Late" by Jojo, "Leave The Pieces" by the Wreckers, both "Over My Head" and "How To Save A Life" by the Fray, and all 4 of Carrie Underwood's songs (3 Country, 1 AC/Hot AC) would be amongst those that would be in my list of this year's best.

For me, and basing it on just singles right now, the best songs were 'Not Ready To Make Nice' and 'Hate Me'.
I'm looking forward to making my yearend Top 40 in December!

John...as usual..with a few VERY SMALL exceptions your taste is superb. The male singers in your list aren't exactly my cup of tea, especially James Blunt, but your female list is right on the money. Maybe you could give me some pointers on how to enjoy a Nickelback song. I'm curious about your opinion on something. You mentioned that "Unwritten" was the best pop song of the year, and I heartily agree. I'm wondering what song you consider the best pop song, "Unwritten" from Natasha or "Breathe" from Anna Nalick. I can't decide. I think they're equal. I can't get enough of either one. Have a nice nite.

Oh and Sweet Escape by Gwen, I've only heard 1:30 clip but yeah I love it already so it's safe to assume this will be like my favorite song this year, or #2.

Nelly Furtado- Maneater. This song is perfection- a thumping beat, a brilliant chorus and an excellent electro breakdown at the end. It's probably in my top 10 favourite songs ever!
